Abstract

This study aims to describe the influence of the 4C competencies on the BIPA learning performance of students participating in the Independent Student Exchange Program (PMM) at Muhammadiyah University Purwokerto. This study employs a quantitative approach using a causal method to determine the cause-and-effect relationship between the 4C competencies and students’ BIPA learning performance. The results indicate that the 4C competencies significantly influence BIPA learning. Additionally, the study found that differences in cultural backgrounds and home universities also affect the learning process experienced by PMM students at Muhammadiyah University Purwokerto.

Abstract

This study investigated the effectiveness of integrating Acehnese folklore Amat Rahmanyang into an Augmented Reality (AR) based learning environment to enhance English as a foreign language (EFL) learners’ speaking skills. Despite growing evidence supporting AR in language learning, Indonesia has explored the pedagogical integration of culturally grounded content, particularly local folklore from underrepresented communities like Aceh. This mixed methods study involved 25 first-grade students at SMA IT Al-Uswah, Sigli, Indonesia. It employed a one-group quasi-experimental design, combining pre-test and post-test assessments with thematic analysis of student interviews. The intervention utilized an AR application featuring the Acehnese tale of Amat Rahmanyang, delivered through interactive 3D animations, audio narration, and visual storytelling tasks. Speaking performance was evaluated using a CEFR-based analytic rubric. Quantitative findings indicated a significant improvement in students’ speaking scores, with mean scores rising from 10.24 (A2 level) to 17.00 (B1 level), confirmed by a paired sample t-test (t = 15.89, p < 0.001). Qualitative data revealed increased learner confidence, enhanced cultural engagement, and greater awareness of pronunciation and vocabulary use. Students expressed that familiarity with the folklore made speaking tasks more meaningful and reduced anxiety. The study concludes that integrating culturally familiar stories within AR-enhanced instruction provides not only linguistic benefits but also emotional and cultural relevance, fostering a more engaging and effective learning environment.

Abstract

Acehnese oral tradition Meurukon is an intangible cultural heritage that embodies significant historical, religious, and educational values for Acehnese society. However, its existence has declined considerably due to the decreasing interest of younger generations, shifting communication patterns, and the dominance of global digital culture. This study aims to analyze the current existence of Meurukon, identify the need for digital-based cultural preservation media, and develop an interactive digital medium based on Meurukon as a strategy for cultural preservation in the Society 5.0 era. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the 4D model consisting of define, design, develop, and disseminate stages. Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, expert validation, and user trials involving 50 respondents comprising students, university students, and Acehnese cultural figures in Bireuen Regency. The findings revealed that the existence of and youth interest in Meurukon remain low, while the demand for interactive digital media is very high. The developed media achieved a feasibility score of 86.25% categorized as highly feasible and received a positive user response rate of 87%. These findings indicate that Meurukon-based interactive digital media effectively supports the preservation of local culture through a more adaptive, interactive, and sustainable approach in the digital era

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low ability of elementary school students in writing explanatory texts. The purpose of this study is to identify the types of difficulties in writing explanatory texts, analyze the factors that cause them, and describe the teachers' efforts in overcoming these difficulties. The study used a qualitative approach with a case study type. The subjects were 29 fifth-grade students of UPTD SD Negeri 3 Jangka. Data were collected through writing tests, analysis of student writing documents, and learning observations. Data were analyzed descriptively qualitatively based on aspects of content, organization, and writing mechanics. The results showed that students experienced difficulties in the aspects of content, organization, and mechanics. Difficulties in the content aspect were indicated by the still low ability to develop main ideas into detailed descriptions. In the organizational aspect, students were not yet able to compose cohesive and coherent paragraphs. Meanwhile, in the mechanical aspect, errors in the use of capital letters and punctuation were still found. Factors causing difficulties consisted of internal factors, namely low interest in writing, limited vocabulary, and weak visual memory, as well as external factors in the form of the use of conventional learning methods, lack of literacy support at home, and excessive use of gadgets. Efforts made by teachers include utilizing visual media such as Smart TVs, implementing multisensory strategies, and providing structured writing exercises.

Abstract

A narrative text E-Module based on Acehnese local wisdom has never been developed by any scholars, yet it is essential for material development in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) context at high school level to enhance students’ reading comprehension skills. The research process involved four stages: needs analysis, expert validation, implementation, and student response evaluation. The needs analysis involving 35 students revealed that learners required short, simple, accessible, and up-to-date texts, particularly folklores reflecting local wisdom. Expert validation indicated that the developed E-Module achieved a “very valid” category, with material validation scoring 96.7% and media validation scoring 94.6%. While the module was considered highly effective in improving vocabulary, inference, and comprehension skills, experts recommended minor revisions to better support independent learning and enrich multimedia features. The effectiveness of the E-Module was further confirmed through a paired sample t-test, which demonstrated a significant improvement between pre-test and post-test scores (t = -10.81, p < 0.05), with a mean gain of 26.57 points. Moreover, students’ responses were overwhelmingly positive, with 80%–89% strongly agreeing and 6%–14% agreeing across aspects such as ease of use, systematic arrangement, motivation, and contribution to reading comprehension. This study concludes that the developed E-Module is pedagogically sound, contextually relevant, and feasible for broader implementation in EFL reading instruction. This study provided reading material with local wisdom based that can be easily access online.
