Abstract

Mining is the process of extracting beneficial minerals from the surface of the earth that have an impact on the formation of acid mine drainage (AMD). One method of passive AMD management is passive treatment. This study used the Nested Factorial Experiment Design method. The types of organic matter used were empty fruit bunch oil palm (EFB) and cow dung, with doses of 0 Mg ha-1 (control), 50 Mg ha-1, 100 Mg ha-1, 150 Mg ha-1 and 200 Mg ha-1. Each treatment was three repeats so that 30 units of experimental units were obtained. The pH value of AMD in the untreated (control) reactor was 3.67. The initial reaction (pH) of AMD (0 days) with EFB application at a dose of 50 – 200 Mg ha-1 ranged from 3.63 – 4.28 and the initial pH of cow dung was 3.84 – 4.13. The reaction (pH) of the 1st to 4th weeks of AMD after adding EFB organic matter at a dose of 50 – 200 Mg ha-1 show a pH range (6.38 – 7.59) and cow manure at a dose of 150 – 200 Mg ha-1 show a pH (6.09 – 7.01). The conclusion are that the application of EFB organic matter on constructed wetland media for 4 weeks had a very real effect on increasing the pH of the AMD dose of 100 – 200 Mg ha-1 while cow dung 150 – 200 Mg ha-1 are the most effective against increasing pH.

Abstract

Ultisols is the dominant soil type occupies dry land areas in Indonesia. This soil type is a great potential for the development of the agricultural sector in Indonesia. Constraints of physical, chemical, and biological properties of Ultisols must be considered in utilizing for optimal development of agricultural production. This study aimed to determine the effect of inorganic and organic fertilizers in soil pH, exchangeable-Al, CEC, plant dry weight, and N uptake of maize planted on an Ultisols. This research was carried out in February to June 2021 and conducted in a greenhouse and Soil Physics and Chemistry Laboratory, Department of Soil, Faculty of Agriculture, Lambung Mangkurat University. The data obtained from all observed variables were analyzed using orthogonal contrast. The results showed that the application of fertilizer, either inorganic and organic, were able to increase soil pH, but decreased plant N uptake and plant dry weight. The application of inorganic fertilizers increased soil pH more than the application of organic, but the N uptake and dry weight of plants increased more due to the application of organic fertilizers than the inorganic. The application of ZA fertilizer decreased soil pH more than the application of urea, although the changes in exchangeable-Al, CEC, N uptake, and plant dry weight were not different. The application of green manure was able to increase the exchangeable-Al content and reduce the N uptake of plants than the application of manure.

Abstract

Tidal land has low P availability due to soil acidity (pH) and the high fixation of Al and Fe into complex compounds. This study aims to determine the effect of dolomitic lime, calcite, and tohor (quicklime) on the soil pH, exchangeable Al, soluble Fe, available P and cation exchange capacity (CEC) in tidal land. The research method used was a one-factor Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The factors tested were the type of lime with three different doses (10 treatments) including control, 1.6, 2.7, and 3.9 t dolomite ha-1, 3.0, 5.0, and 7.0 t calcite ha-1, and 1.9, 3.2, and 4.5 t quicklime ha-1. The results showed that the application of various types of lime had a significant effect on pH, exchangeable Al, soluble Fe, available P, and CEC. The quicklime application at 4.5 t ha-1 increased the soil pH, solubility of P, CEC significantly and decreased exchangeable Al and available Fe compared to dolomite and calcite.

Abstract

Podsolic soil is acidic soil, low nutrient content, especially N, P, K, Ca, Mg. One of the efforts that can be done to overcome this problem in soil is the addition of organic material. The addition of organic material bokashi rice straw and oil palm empty fruit bunches (TKKS) compost can add nutrients in the soil such as nutrients N, P and K. This study aims to determine the effect of rice straw bokashi and oil palm empty compost applied to Podsolic soils. The method used in this study was a single Randomized Complete Design (RAL) with the treatment of dose of 0 t ha-1 (bokashi and TKKS) 3 t ha-1, 5 t ha-1, 7 t ha-1 (bokashi) and 1.5 t ha-1, 3 t ha-1, 4.5 t ha-1 (TKKS). The results of this study indicate that the application of rice straw bokashi and TKKS compost has a significant effect on N-ammonium and P-available.

Abstract

One of the problems in upland soils is poor in nutrient N. One effort to increase the availability of N in the soil is by providing swallow’s droppings which has a high N content. Thus, the purpose of this research was to determine the availability of N on upland soil was by applying swallow manure. This research employed Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with single factors (several levels of swallow’s manure: 0.0; 2.5; 5.0; 7.5; and 10.0 t ha–1). The availability of N in the soil was observed through the experimental column leaching, where 20 g of Ultisols was mixed with 20 g of quartz sand and swallow’s manure on a leaching column of 1-inch diameter and 20 cm height. Mineralized amounts of NH4+ and NO3– from the soil were determined by the percolation method (leaching) in every five days for 25 days. The results showed that the application of swallow’s manure increased the availability of total-N in the soil in the form of NH4+ and NO3–, and produced the release pattern of NH4+ and NO3– which was still relatively high until the end of the testing period. The results of this study demonstrate that application of swallow’s manure may be used as a slow-release fertilizer.

Abstract

High P adsorption reduces rice production, especially in newly reclaimed paddy fields. The research studied soil P adsorption using the adsorption isoterm equation and soil P solubility in a New Tidal Rice Field of Barito Kuala Regency. This incubation study used soil samples from Ray 7, Balandean Village, Alalak District, Barito Kuala Regency, South Kalimantan Province, from May to November 2022. The isothermal adsorption of P was measured in six soil samples with three replicates. P (0, 2, 5, 10, 15, 30, and 50 mg P kg-1) from KH2PO4 were added in 1 g soil in 25 mL 0.01 M CaCl2. The suspensions were shaken at 25 ! for 17 hours, then centrifuged at 3000 rpm for five minutes, and the supernatant was filtered (Whatman 42) for P analysis. Three ordinary adsorption isotherm equations, Langmuir, Freundlich, and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET), were used to fit the data. After adding 50 mg P kg-1, the average dissolved-P was 34.60 mg kg-1 (69%), and adsorbed-P was 15.40 mg kg-1 (31%). The BET equation was more suitable for describing P adsorption isotherm in this type of soil, which has the ability to adsorb one-third of any P addition.
