Abstract

This study aims to determine the Management of Jam'iyah Batak Muslim Indonesia (JBMI) in Improving the Quality of Da'i in North Tapanuli. Jam'iyah Batak Muslim Indonesia (JBMI) is part of an organization in the field of da'wah and also as a forum or place of bersilaturrahmi, which aims to gather the Indonesian Muslim Batak community in jam'iyah to build devoted humans in ukhuwah and kinship. This research uses a qualitative approach with a field study design (field research). Data were collected through in-depth interviews with JBMI administrators at the regional level (DPW), the council of scholars, and the advisory board, as well as observation and document study. Data analysis techniques used the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the application of four management functions (POAC) in the management of JBMI's da'wah is quite effective. Planning is done thematically and periodically, organizing is supported by a systematic structure from central to branch level, and program implementation includes activities such as majelis taklim, seminars, Batak Sufi pilgrimage, and publishing books of local ulama figures. Supervision is applied through regular evaluation of da'wah activities. Indicators of success can be seen from the increase in community participation, the formation of young da'i cadres, and the maintenance of Islamic identity in harmony with local culture.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the dynamics of organizational communication in the management of urban infrastructure projects in Medan City, focusing on how communication between institutions and with the community affects the success of infrastructure development. The urgency of this research arises from the need to address complex urban problems such as congestion and flooding, as well as support sustainable and inclusive city modernization efforts. The methodology used in this study is qualitative with a descriptive approach, where primary data is collected through archives and official documents published by the Medan City Government, including details of project implementation and progress reports. Secondary data involves relevant literature studies to strengthen the analysis of organizational communication dynamics. Data analysis was carried out using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana model which includes data collection, condensation, display, and drawing conclusions from data. The results of the study indicate that the effectiveness of organizational communication plays a critical role in ensuring the success of infrastructure projects, especially in supporting equal access and encouraging modernization. Projects such as the Mebidang Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and the construction of the Jalan Gatot Subroto underpass not only improve mobility but also open wider access to city services, contributing to a more equitable distribution of development benefits. In the discussion, this study suggests the importance of strengthening communication structures and adopting new communication technologies to improve transparency and responsiveness in project management.

Abstract

General Background: Education is a cornerstone for the development of high-quality human resources. Specific Background: In remote coastal areas, access and motivation toward higher education remain limited. Knowledge Gap: Limited research explores how adolescents in such marginalized regions perceive higher education and the factors that hinder their participation. Aim: This study investigates the perceptions of coastal adolescents in Dahari Selebar Village regarding higher education and the sociocultural factors influencing their educational decisions. Methodology: Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through observations and in-depth interviews with five adolescents who discontinued their formal education and the village head. Results: Findings reveal that although adolescents perceive higher education positively—associating it with self-development, future success, and achieving aspirations—socioeconomic constraints, insufficient parental encouragement, and entrenched local norms often discourage educational continuation. Novelty: This study provides an in-depth account of educational aspirations in coastal youth, highlighting a tension between positive perception and structural barriers. Implications: The findings underscore the urgency of targeted interventions to raise awareness and provide socioeconomic support in coastal regions, contributing to efforts aimed at enhancing educational equity and preparing future generations to navigate global challenges. Highlights:  Highlights coastal adolescents' positive yet conflicted view on higher education. Reveals economic and parental factors as key obstacles to continuation. Urges targeted support and awareness to improve educational access. Keywords: Adolescent Perception, Higher Education, Coastal Communities, Educational Barriers

Abstract

This research aims to: (1) To find out the communication synergy carried out by the Communication and Consultation Forum for Islamic Spiritual Guidance (Fokkus Babinrohis) in conveying religious values to the State Civil Apparatus (ASN) within the North Sumatra Provincial Government; (2) To find out the contribution of Fokkus Babinrohis programs and activities in instilling Islamic religious values in ASN behavior; and (3) To find out the challenges faced by Fokkus Babinrohis in building effective communication in religious guidance to ASN. This research used a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques were conducted through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation of eleven informants who were directly involved in the forum and policy makers. The results showed that the communication synergy built by Fokkus Babinrohis runs strategically, participatively, and touches the spiritual aspects of ASN through a two-way communication approach and vertical coordination across agencies. Religious programs such as routine recitation, Islamic ethics training, and dakwah safaris make a real contribution to improving ASN morale, discipline, and integrity. However, there are a number of challenges faced, including internal management conflicts, limited facilities and budgets, low ASN participation, and the non-optimal role of rohis units in agencies. For this reason, institutional evaluation, management restructuring, and a more contextual and comprehensive coaching approach are needed to effectively internalize religious values in the bureaucratic environment.

Abstract

This study investigates organizational communication's role in achieving superior accreditation at the State Islamic University of North Sumatra (UIN-SU). The research method used is mixed, with a survey-based quantitative approach using questionnaires to collect data from UIN-SU students, lecturers, and teaching staff and a qualitative approach through interviews with universities that have achieved superior accreditation. Data were analyzed using statistical analysis techniques and path analysis with moderating variables. The results showed that UIN-SU achieved a "B" (Superior) accreditation rating, which reflects a commitment to improving the quality of higher education services. The effectiveness of internal communication and the quality of external communication played a crucial role in achieving this feat. However, the participation of academic community members in decision-making did not have a significant impact, indicating the need to increase their participation and role in the accreditation process. In order to achieve higher accreditation in the future, UIN-SU needs to focus on improving organizational communication, supportive organizational policies and culture, and allocating adequate resources to support accreditation efforts and improve the quality of higher education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors that influence the emergence of hate speech in handling land conflicts in North Sumatra. This study uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. The data for this study are sourced from observations, interviews, and literature reviews. The data for this study were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The validity of the research data was determined through triangulation techniques. This study shows that land conflicts in North Sumatra, especially in the former HGU PTPN II land since 2002, were triggered by unclear land regulations, legal uncertainty, and high economic value, which exacerbated social tensions and hate speech. Competition between local communities, large companies, and local governments is heating up due to the spread of unverified information on social media and the slow response of the government, which has led to public distrust. Additional factors such as imbalance of power, socio-cultural differences, and lack of communication education and uncontrolled use of technology exacerbate the conflict. Proposed solutions include clear land regulations, effective communication strategies with neutral mediators, government transparency, judicious use of social media, and training of mediators and empowerment of local communities to strengthen social cohesion and achieve inclusive and sustainable conflict resolution.
