Abstract

The incorporation of multicultural values ​​in Islamic education textbooks needs to be fostered as the endeavor to raise Muslim’s inclusive religious awareness. In response to this growing need, this study describes the highlight of multicultural education and multicultural values-based learning materials of Islamic education as well as well-planned learning processes. Grounded in a qualitative explorative descriptive study, it provides a comprehensive content analysis of Islamic education textbooks reinforced with a phenomenological approach. The primary sources of research were Islamic education textbooks for tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grades in secondary high schools located in Salatiga, Central Java, Indonesia. Secondary sources were obtained through in-depth interviews with the teachers and students. Findings of this study demonstrate that firstly, not only did the textbooks cover the transfer of knowledge, but they also promoted multicultural values, so that the students upheld their cultural identities. Secondly, the learning materials introduced not only ritualistic symbols, but also the relationship between religious symbols and the existing reality. It encourages the students to think inclusively regarding unity in diversity. Finally, multicultural values embedded in the learning process involved tolerance, harmony, a culture of mutual respect, democracy, and maintenance of faith with good morality in social solidarity and interaction.

Abstract

Wasathiyyah Islam is essential in shaping students’ character in Islamic higher education. However, standardized instruments do not assess students’ attitudes toward these values. This study aims to develop a valid and reliable instrument to measure wasathiyyah values among students at the Faculty of Islamic Education and Teaching (FTIK), UIN Salatiga. Using a Research and Development (R&D) design adapted from the Borg and Gall model, the study included item development, expert validation, field testing, and revision. The instrument was tested on 200 students from the Islamic Education and Science Education programs using a Likert scale. Data collection was conducted through surveys. Expert review confirmed content validity, and reliability testing using Cronbach’s Alpha produced a score of α = 0.89, indicating high internal consistency. The values measured: tawasuth (moderation), i’tidal (justice), tasamuh (tolerance), tawazun (balance), syura (deliberation), islah (reform), qudwah (exemplary leadership), muwathanah (citizenship), and musawwah (equality), were theoretically integrated into the instrument. Results showed high student agreement with the values, supporting the instrument’s effectiveness. This tool helps evaluate character education and can inform future research and curriculum development in Islamic higher education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relevance of Ibnu Khaldun's philosophy of education in the development of the Islamic education curriculum in Indonesia, which continues to experience dynamics due to government curriculum policy changes. The method employed is a literature review and conceptual analysis of Ibnu Khaldun’s work, Muqaddimah, focusing on his educational concept that emphasizes the importance of social, economic, and political environments as well as the gradual integration of both worldly and religious knowledge. The study's findings reveal that Ibnu Khaldun's philosophy of education is highly relevant to the context of Islamic education in Indonesia, particularly in addressing the challenges of globalization and technological advancement. His approach, which prioritizes the integration of knowledge and the character development of students, offers a solution to the prevailing low spiritual and social attitudes among learners. This research contributes by providing a strong theoretical foundation for developing a more adaptive, relevant Islamic education curriculum that emphasizes moral and ethical formation, thereby enhancing the quality of Islamic education in line with contemporary developments.

Abstract

This study aims to find out: (1) Fostering enthusiasm for worship for students at the Nurul Huda Blotongan Student Islamic Boarding School, Salatiga City in 2023 (2) Fostering an attitude of national commitment to students at the Nurul Huda Blotongan Student Islamic Boarding School, Salatiga City in 2023 (3) The impact of coaching enthusiasm for worship and an attitude of national commitment to students at the Nurul Huda Blotongan Student Islamic Boarding School, Salatiga City in 2023. This research uses a qualitative descriptive research type with a phenomenological approach. Data collection techniques carried out by observation, interviews and documentation. The informants in this study were caregivers, asatidz, administrators and students at the Nurul Huda Blotongan Islamic Boarding School, Salatiga City. Data analysis is used through activities, namely: data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. In checking the validity of the data, researchers used source triangulation and technical triangulation. The results showed that: (1) Fostering enthusiasm for worship in students was applied by studying the yellow book, habituation (ta'widiyah), motivation and exemplary (uswah). (2) Fostering the attitude of national commitment to students through student activity units, deliberations and contextualization. (3) The impact of fostering enthusiasm for worship in students is that students can carry out worship without having to be forced, students can get up at night to carry out worship, it becomes a good habit for students, students get peace of mind and students can establish friendly relations with the community. (4) The impact of fostering an attitude of national commitment to students is that students become patriotic, peace-loving, united, tolerant, humble and moderate.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pemikiran pendidikan Islam Azyumardi Azra dan implementasinya di UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta dalam perspektif filsafat pendidikan. Azra merupakan tokoh reformis pendidikan Islam yang menolak dikotomi antara ilmu agama dan ilmu umum serta mengusung paradigma integratif, moderat, dan progresif. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan hermeneutik dengan metode studi pustaka terhadap berbagai karya akademik beliau. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa pemikiran Azra berakar pada prinsip tauhid sebagai dasar ontologis, epistemologis, dan aksiologis pendidikan Islam. Secara ontologis, ia memandang ilmu agama dan ilmu umum sebagai dua dimensi realitas yang saling melengkapi. Secara epistemologis, Azra mengedepankan pendekatan integratif yang menggabungkan wahyu, akal, dan pengalaman empiris. Secara aksiologis, pendidikan Islam diarahkan pada pembentukan insan kamil yang berakhlak, toleran, dan berdaya sosial. Implementasi gagasannya tampak nyata dalam transformasi IAIN menjadi UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, yang menandai modernisasi lembaga pendidikan Islam dan penguatan paradigma interdisipliner. Dalam filsafat pendidikan, pemikiran Azra menunjukkan keterkaitan dengan aliran progresivisme, rekonstruktivisme, humanistik, dan idealisme yang menekankan pembaruan adaptif, transformasi sosial, dan penguatan nilai moral. Pemikirannya memberikan kontribusi besar terhadap modernisasi pendidikan Islam di Indonesia melalui integrasi ilmu, moderasi beragama, dan orientasi pada kemaslahatan umat.
