Abstract

The study explores about the sexual intelligence based on Al-Quran perspective. Philosophically, it begins from Al-Muminun verses 1-6. It attempts to elaborate the Quran paradigm comprehensively on sexual intelligence by raising three main problems, they are: the concept of sexual intelligence, the urgency of sexual intelligence, and  the Quran guidance in establishing the sexual intelligence. To observe of the three problems above, the thematic interpretation method was applied using linguistic, psychological, hermeneutic and semiotic approaches. The findings of the study were as follows. First, the sexual intelligence was an accumulation and integration of all the intelligence elements: intellectual, emotional and spiritual. Second, the sexual intelligence had broadly urgency and it gave strong  influence to the whole  aspects of life such as morally, psychologically, sociologically, biologically, theologically, and spiritually. Third, to establish the sexual intelligence, a Muslim had to take care of his or her sight, keep his or her genitals, get adequate knowledge about sex and avoid from the pornographic media.

Abstract

This article aims at examining the translation changes in the Qur’an and its Translation (QDT) published by the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, especially in three editions (1969, 1990 and 2002) related to human creation (4: 1, 7: 189, 39: 6, 3: 21, 16: 72, 42: 11 ) and heavenly couple (2: 25, 3: 15, 4: 57). The article also attempts to uncover the ideological aspects, especially gender ideology, behind the changes. This research proves the existence of the translation changes in the three editions, especially in the 2002 edition, which are not only related to diction (word choice), structure and sentence structure, but also the substance of translation. This article argues that the translation changes are related to the ideological shift of the state towards gender-friendly policy, and power relations between the state (especially through the Ministry of Religious Affairs) and translators (or precisely the correctors of the translation), and the position of translators (or the correctors of the translation) as social agents who are not always fully subject themselves to the ideology of the state.

Abstract

Agus Mustofa is a controversial figure because his thoughts are considered deviant. Even so, he remains productive in writing and interpreting verses from the Al-Qur’an on his YouTube channel, which has hundreds of thousands of subscribers. Agus Mustofa’s academic background is nuclear engineering, not Qur’ānic exegesis. This study examines the sources, methods, validity, and implications of Agus Mustofa’s interpretations. It employs interpretive epistemological theory and mass communication theory to accomplish these objectives. Data is collected from a Agus Mustofa’s YouTube channel, Sufistic Islamic Studies. The results show that first, the sources used by Agus Mustofa are tafsir bil ma’tsur and tafsir bil ra’yi. Second, the method used is mauḍūʿī with a scientific approach. Third, the validity of the data obtained through coherence is inconsistent using interpretive sources, whereas correspondence and pragmatism are new in the world of interpretation. Fourth, Agus Mustofa’s interpretation provides positive cognitive, affective, and behavioral impacts on society.

Abstract

A bomb explosion in the City of London, England, not only shook Jasser Auda’s soul, but also increased the academic anxiety that encouraged him to start writing an important work in his academic career entitled Maqasid al-Shariah as Philosophy of Islamic Law. The peak of his anxiety is a fidgetiness accumulation that he experienced during the struggle with the academic world, especially Islamic law. The condition of Muslims at that time is increasingly culminating in the case of terrorism in London that took the name of Islamic law1 coupled with the low level of muslims human development index (HDI) indicated the inferioity as well as the low quality of Muslims both in terms of science, education, politics, economy, women's empowerment, and other capabilities that were still under of minimum standards2. Jasser Auda also felt an intellectual anxiety when finding the reality of Islamic law (fiqh) seemed to be lacking in solutions to the Islamic community in general. The anxieties here are not related to the material in Islamic law but to the understanding, thought, determination and implementation of Islamic law in the daily lives of Muslims in various countries.

Abstract

Nurul Islam Grand Mosque, recognized as the first and oldest grand mosque in Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan, is distinguished primarily by its extensive Qur’anic calligraphy that adorns nearly the entire interior, including the walls and ceiling. This study investigates the functional reception of the calligraphy, focusing on the selection of specific Qur’anic verses and the rationale behind their inclusion. Employing a qualitative methodology with a descriptive-analytical approach, the research is grounded in Qur’anic reception theory, particularly the concept of functional reception. Data were collected through fieldwork involving observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that the verses featured in the mosque are those frequently recited and memorized by Muslims in daily practice, such as Surah Yāsīn, Al-Wāqi‘ah, and Al-Mulk. The functional reception is manifested in the curatorial decision to present these verses as calligraphy, thereby enabling visitors to engage with the surahs or verses without the need to consult a mushaf, in addition to serving an ornamental purpose. Furthermore, the calligraphy contributes to the mosque’s unique aesthetic identity, distinguishing it from other mosques. However, issues related to the legibility of certain calligraphic elements have elicited criticism, suggesting that the mosque’s administration should address these concerns appropriately.

Abstract

The advancement of digital technology, particularly the YouTube platform, has transformed the paradigm of learning to read the Qur'an, raising questions regarding ethics and moral values within the Islamic context. This study aims to examine the ethics of learning Qur’anic recitation through YouTube from the perspective of the hadiths of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and to identify relevant ethical principles in online learning practices. This research employs a qualitative method with a literature study approach, using hadiths and Islamic scholarly texts as primary sources. The population includes hadith compilations and related literature, analyzed descriptively and hermeneutically. Data were collected through document analysis and interpreted to identify ethical values and principles in seeking knowledge. The findings reveal five key principles: sincerity of intention, selectivity in choosing teachers, proper listening etiquette, repetition, and application of knowledge, as essential in digital learning to align with the teachings of the Prophet. The study concludes that although digital platforms provide easier access, ethical values must be upheld, and the role of teachers and direct interaction remains vital for instilling moral and spiritual foundations. The study recommends further empirical research to develop ethical learning models aligned with the hadith tradition.
