Abstract

Several compounds found within Bawang Dayak, including eleutherine and eleutherol, hold promise as potential therapeutic agentsThis research involved molecular docking and Lipinski rule analysis of 13 ligands derived from flavonoids extracted from bawang dayak. The control ligand, acarbose, was found to form four hydrogen bonds with key amino acids (Gln279, Lys156, Asp242, and Glu411), resulting in a binding energy of -9.8 kcal mol-1. Among the ligands, Ligand 3 displayed a lower binding energy of -9.9 kcal mol-1 compared to acarbose and satisfied all five criteria of Lipinski's rule, despite not forming hydrogen bonds. Instead, Ligand 3 exhibited similar hydrophobic interactions as acarbose with amino acids such as Tyr158, Phe178, Val216, Ser240, Asp242, Glu277, Gln279, His280, Arg315, Asp352, Glu411, and Arg442. Several other ligands exhibited binding energies slightly higher than acarbose, such as Ligands 4, 5, and 8, with binding energies of -8.5 kcal mol-1, -8.6 kcal mol-1, and -8.6 kcal mol-1, respectively. Based on this study, Ligands 3, 4, 5, and 8 are considered potential candidates for anti-diabetic agents. These ligands demonstrated binding energies comparable to acarbose, met at least three of the five Lipinski rule criteria, and exhibited similar amino acid interactions with acarbose, indicating their potential effectiveness in managing diabetes.

Abstract

Kelakai (Stenochlaena palustris (Burm F.) Bedd) is a type of fern that grows in peat swamp areas or commonly called wetlands. Kelakai leaves contain secondary metabolites, namely flavonoids, which are effective as antioxidants and counteract free radicals. The purpose of this study was to determine whether the extract of kelakai leaves (Stenochlaena palustris (Burm.F.) Bedd) has sunscreen protection activity.UV radiation or known as ultraviolet consists of 2 types, namely: UV-A and UV-B, the letter A in UV-A means "Aging" with a wavelength of 320-400 nm can penetrate the dermis which causes pigmentation, and the letter B in UV-B means "Burning" with a wavelength of 290-320 nm and can penetrate the outermost layer of the skin (epidermis) whose effects can be seen directly in the form of erythema. The SPF value indicates how many times a person's skin protection is doubled so that it is safe under the sun without experiencing erythema, the higher the SPF value of a sunscreen, the better its protection activity. Based on the SPF value data obtained, it shows that the ethanol extract of kelakai leaves can function as an active ingredient in sunscreen because it is proven to have quite high activity and SPF value from minimal protection to ultra protection.

Abstract

The local communities in the interior of Kalimantan have long utilized plants from the Zingiberaceae family as traditional medicinal ingredients, especially for postpartum care. Many species of Zingiberaceae are retained in postnatal care because they are effective in alleviating and healing ailments. This study aims to review the potential diversity of Zingiberaceae species used in traditional medicine after childbirth and to identify their chemical compound content. The method used is a literature review with an analysis of scientific literature from the past 10 years discussing the utilization of Zingiberaceae by the community in Kalimantan in managing mothers after childbirth. The results show that there are ten species and four genera of Zingiberaceae that are frequently used, namely Alpinia, Kaempferia, Curcuma, and Zingiber. The plant organ that is utilized is the rhizome, processed in various ways such as boiling, pounding, or turning into powder before being consumed or applied to the body. The compound content in Zingiberaceae includes curcumin, gingerol, and shogaol, which have immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant activities, playing a role in postpartum treatment for women. This research emphasizes that Zingiberaceae plays an important role in traditional postnatal treatment, and further studies are needed to support the preservation of local knowledge, as well as conservation and sustainable utilization.

Abstract

Vector-borne diseases are a diversified group of diseases, caused by various pathogens transmitted by rats and arthropod vectors, such as mosquitoes, ticks, and flies. Previous research shows that cases of infectious diseases in Islamic boarding schools/orphanages are found, including dengue, scabies and pediculosis. Some Islamic boarding schools have poor environmental conditions, including toilets, damp and closed dormitories, poor ventilation and lighting, and poor environmental sanitation. Student behavior towards cleanliness and maintaining health is considered to be lacking. Through this service, it is hoped that residents at LKSA/Panti Asuhan Darul Tazkiyah can maintain personal cleanliness and residence so as to reduce the population of vectors and disease-carrying animals in the settlement. The activity was carried out through the method of socialization and two-way discussion. Scouts were given at the beginning of the activity to measure the level of knowledge of participants about vectors and disease-carrying animals. The results of the questionnaire showed that 94% of the participants did not have knowledge about the bioecology of vectors and disease-carrying animals. After the socialization and discussion stage, it can be concluded that participants understand the bioecology of each type of vector (flies, cockroaches, mosquitoes) and disease-carrying animals (rats).

Abstract

Solanum ferox is a typical Central Kalimantan plant widely used by Dayak’s community as a vegetable. The study aims to determine the ethanol extract of sour eggplant activities by measuring its SPF in vitro and identifying secondary metabolite contents. The sour eggplant is extracted by maceration using 96% ethanol solvent and then bound with an evaporator. The secondary metabolite groups of ethanol extract were identified using phytochemical screening. The identification results indicate the presence of flavonoid, terpenoid, steroid, and phenolic compounds. Then, the ethanol extract was fractionated with a water solvent, and its functional cluster was identified using the IR spectrum. IR spectral identification results indicate the presence of OH, C-O, C=C olefin, C -O ether, and aliphatic CH functional groups. (CH2 and CH3) SPF values were determined by measuring the absorption of ethanol and water extracts in vitro using UV-Vis spectrophotometry at UV-B wavelengths of 290-320 nm. In vitro testing has been conducted as a preliminary test in developing a sunscreen product (active substance). The SPF values of ethanol extract and water from weighted fruit extract in sequence are 40 and 23 at a 10% concentration with ultra-category.
