Abstract

This study aims to explain the technique of creating visual depictions of Javan Hawk-eagle feathers in a mixed-media fantasy body painting and to evaluate the visual quality of the resulting feather textures in representing the morphological characteristics of the Javan Hawk-eagle, an Indonesian endemic animal. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method with descriptive percentage analysis. Data were obtained through an assessment process by three expert validators who evaluated the works based on indicators of elements and principles of fine art, the use of the body as a medium for aesthetic expression, creativity in beauty products, and aesthetic aspects in the beauty industry. Furthermore, percentage analysis was used to determine the visual quality of the works based on the validators' assessments. The results showed that the works obtained an average percentage of 96.7%, categorized as "very good." The feather visualization technique was carried out through the application of layering techniques, color gradation, and feather direction arrangement that follows the anatomical contours of the model's body, resulting in visual depth and a realistic impression. These results indicate that mixed-media body painting techniques can produce aesthetically pleasing and innovative feather visuals that represent the morphology of the Javan Hawk-eagle. These findings confirm that body painting can be a medium for artistic exploration of modern makeup based on local wisdom as well as a visual tool to enhance appreciation for Indonesia's endemic fauna.

Abstract

The visual adaptation of the Sumatran Tiger into fantasy facial makeup art is a strategic alternative media for the conservation campaign of this endangered species. This study aims to describe and analyze the feasibility of a prosthetic fantasy facial makeup work that adapts the anatomical and aesthetic elements of the Sumatran Tiger. The type of research used is descriptive quantitative. The data collection technique was through a performance assessment test of the work. The research instrument was an assessment rubric validated by three experts using the Aiken's V index and its reliability was analyzed with Cronbach's Alpha (0.889). The results showed that the average content validity of the instrument was 0.859 (85.9%). The quality of the prosthetic fantasy makeup work obtained an average value of 88.89% which is included in the "very appropriate" category. The meaning and visual representation indicators obtained the highest value (94.44%), indicating that the prosthetic technique is very effective in conveying symbolic messages and conservation values. The conclusion of this study is that prosthetic engineering is able to visualize the characteristics of the Sumatran Tiger realistically and dramatically, and meets the standards of aesthetic quality, creativity, and technique in the field of makeup. The use of three-dimensionality allows for more realistic facial manipulation than conventional makeup.

Abstract

Indonesia has natural and cultural riches that have great potential as a source of inspiration in creating works of art, including in the field of fantasy make-up. However, the utilization of local natural potential, especially from the Papua region such as Lake Sentani, is still not optimal in developing body painting works. This research aims to determine the feasibility of visualizing Lake Sentani as inspiration for fantasy body painting make-up designs in creating artistic works. The method used is quantitative descriptive involving three expert validators in the field of beauty and design. The data collection technique is carried out through performance tests using a Likert scale assessment instrument which has been tested for validity and reliability. Assessment indicators include the visual aesthetics of works, elements and principles of fine art, the body as a medium for aesthetic expression, beauty product creativity, meaning and visual representation, and aesthetics in the field of beauty. Data analysis uses descriptive percentage techniques. The research results show that all indicators received a very feasible category with an average value of 96%. The beauty product creativity indicator received the highest score of 100%, while the other indicators were in the range 92%–97%. These findings show that the visualization of Lake Sentani can be processed into fantasy make-up works that are aesthetic, innovative and have strong visual meaning. Thus, the visualization of Lake Sentani is worthy of being used as a source of inspiration in developing fantasy body painting works based on local wisdom.
