Abstract

This study aims to reveal the meaning formed through the interaction of various forms, namely language, images, music, sound, and movement in the song video clip. Using a qualitative method with a multimodal discourse analysis approach, this study analyzes how the five forms of modes work simultaneously in conveying messages. The results of the study show that each form plays an important role in building the theme of longing, loss, and hope. Language is used to convey the narrative, images and movements strengthen the emotional meaning, while music and sound create an atmosphere that supports the overall message. These findings indicate that the multimodal discourse approach is able to reveal complex meanings in works of art, as well as being a means to represent ideas, experiences, and social realities through various complementary forms.

Abstract

This qualitative study aims to examine the role of the People's School (Sekolah Rakyat) in expanding access to education for children from low-income families in Jember Regency. Despite government efforts to achieve educational equality, socioeconomic disparities remain a significant barrier, limiting access to quality education services, particularly for marginalized groups. Through interviews, observations, and document analysis, this study explores how the People's School—a free, community-initiated alternative school—contributes to addressing resource constraints, inadequate infrastructure, and digital exclusion experienced by students from poor families. The results indicate that the People's School plays a significant role in increasing school participation, strengthening students' basic academic skills, and enhancing community involvement in education delivery. Its flexible, community-based learning approach enables the school to respond to the learning needs of students at risk of dropping out and experiencing social marginalization. However, the sustainability of the People's School still faces challenges such as limited funding and infrastructure, and a lack of institutional recognition. These findings underscore the importance of partnerships between the government and communities to strengthen the function of People's Schools as an inclusive educational alternative to encourage social mobility and break the chain of intergenerational poverty. Abstract

The ability to understand functional conjunctions is essential in building a cohesive and coherent discourse, but this aspect is still underappreciated in bilingual learning in elementary schools. Many students have difficulty contextualizing conjunctions because learning focuses on grammatical forms rather than functions in authentic texts. This study aims to test the effectiveness of integrating functional conjunction instruction from bilingual texts into the Index Card Match learning model in improving students' grammatical comprehension. The research design used was a quasi-experiment with a pretest-posttest non-equivalent control group approach, involving 60 students in class V who were randomly divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental group received conjunction learning through bilingual text-based Index Card Match activities, while the control group used conventional methods. Data was collected through a multiple-choice test of 30 questions and then analyzed using validity, reliability, normality, homogeneity, ANOVA, and t-test. The results showed a significant increase in post-test scores in the experimental group (M = 82.43; SD = 6.12) compared to the control group (M = 74.10; SD = 7.55) with p < 0.001. These findings show that integrating functional linguistic features through interactive and collaborative strategies effectively strengthens students' conceptual understanding. The novelty of this study lies in the explicit incorporation of micro-elements of discourse into cooperative learning models, which have not been widely applied in grammatical learning in bilingual contexts. The practical implications support the development of contextual, inclusive, and discourse-oriented grammar teaching strategies in multilingual classrooms.

Abstract

The practice of teaching Literary Psychology in higher education often faces challenges due to the lack of pedagogical strategies capable of bridging the complexity of literary texts with the psychological dynamics embedded within them. Students frequently struggle to grasp the emotional and cognitive depth of narrative meaning because the dominant teaching approach remains monomodal. This study aims to explore students' perceptions of the application of multimodal learning in Literary Psychology courses and to examine the extent to which multimodal resources can promote the development of data, technology, and human literacy in the classroom. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, direct observation of the teaching and learning process, and documentation of student learning outcomes. The research subjects were students and faculty members from the literature program at one of Indonesia's state universities. The research findings indicate that the integration of multimodal resources—such as infographics, character analysis videos, and digital forums—significantly enhances active participation, psychological understanding of literary texts, and students' reflective sensitivity. Furthermore, these findings show that multimodal learning not only impacts material comprehension but also shapes an inclusive and transformative learning ecosystem. The conclusion of this study confirms that the multimodal approach is an adaptive and effective pedagogical strategy for developing the interpretive, critical, and literary abilities of literature students in the digital age.

Abstract

This study investigates the phenomenon of interfaith communication among Indonesian Muslim users of the HelloTalk language-exchange application, examining how this platform has evolved into a hybrid space of “Digital Religion”. Employing Alfred Schutz’s social phenomenology and Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs as complementary theoretical frameworks, this qualitative research utilized purposive sampling to select two key informants who actively engage in interfaith discussions on HelloTalk. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews conducted online and analyzed using phenomenological reduction. Trustworthiness was ensured through source triangulation and member checking. The novelty of this study lies in its dual-framework approach  simultaneously mapping motivational structures (Schutz) and psychological needs (Maslow) within a non-religious digital platform. The results indicate that users’ Because Motives are rooted in past positive experiences with non-Muslims and inspiration from the Prophet’s da’wah stories. Meanwhile, the In-Order-To Motives are dominated by a missionary mission to earn spiritual merit (Self-Transcendence), a desire to correct global misconceptions about Islam (Esteem and Safety Needs), and the aspiration to forge cross-cultural global connections (Love/Belonging and Esteem). The findings demonstrate that HelloTalk users deliberately sacralize a secular digital platform, transforming it into a field of spiritual service. This study contributes theoretically to Digital Religion scholarship by documenting a novel form of faith diplomacy enacted by lay Muslim users through algorithm-mediated intercultural communication, and contributes practically by informing digital da’wah strategy and interfaith dialogue programs in the Indonesian Muslim context.
