Abstract

This research was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of infographic in teaching reading comprehension and how significance the effectiveness of infographic are in students reading comprehension at SMA N 01 Lumar. The form of this study was a Pre-Experimental Study with a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The Population of the research was students at Tenth Grade Students of SMA N 01 Lumar in the Academic Year of 2020/2021. The sample of this research was X IPA I selected using a cluster random sampling technique. The technique of data collection applied in this research is measurement. The tool of this research was a test. The researcher ask the validator and conduct the tryout to the test before the test was given to the sample to get the validity of the test. The multiple-choice that consists of 20 items in this research were used to get the data after implementation of the infographic. The data was analyzed by used SPSS 26. The results of this research showed that the infographic was effective in teaching reading comprehension and there is a modest significant difference effect. Suggested to the future researcher presents the great and interesting in infographic presentation

Abstract

This research was conducted to investigate how to improve students' reading comprehension after being taught using the Classwide peer tutoring (CWPT) method of tenth grade students of SMKN 6 Pontianak in the academic year 2019/2020. The form of this research is Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subjects of this study were 33 tenth grade students. Data collection techniques used were observation and measurement techniques. Observation sheets, field notes and reading tests were used as tools to collect data. Based on research findings, it showed that Classwide Peer Tutoring (CWPT) method can improve students' reading comprehension. Classwide Peer Tutoring (CWPT) method of successfully solving students' problems in reading. That is evident from the increase in student behavior and student grades. The students were shown by a significant increase in student scores which proved the improvement from the first cycle got an average score of 46.5. The score has not yet reached the average score, but after the researcher made improvement in the second cycle, the score increased to 70. This can be seen from the condition and behavior of students in teaching and learning and interested students are also introduced by using the Classwide Peer Tutoring (CWPT) method. Finally, the researcher concluded that students liked the Classwide Peer Tutoring (CWPT) method. This method can help students to improve students' reading comprehension by providing situations and ideas. Abstract

The the purposes of the research 1) to find out the level of confidence of the eighth grade students' confidence in MTs AL JIHAD Pontianak in the Academic Year of 2019/2020. 2) to find out analysis score of students' confidence in speaking skills to eighth grade MTs AL-JIHAD Pontianak in Academic Year of 2019/2020. The research method used in this research was descriptive method. Data collection techniques used in this research  resume are indirect communication and structured interviews. Data collection tools are questionnaires and interviews. Based on the results of the study can be concluded that in a manner general self-confidence of eighth grade MTs AL-JIHAD Pontianak in Academic Year 2019/2020 has been particularly good more specifically can be described as follows. 1) The level of confidence of the eighth grade students' confidence in MTs AL JIHAD Pontianak in the Academic Year of 2019/2020 namely having a fairly good level of confidence this is evident from the results acquisition of 62% included in the category quite good.  2).students' self-level scores in speaking skills to eighth grade MTs AL-JIHAD Pontianak in Academic Year 2019/2020 is the result of confidence indicator items in can already have a pretty good confidence this can be seen from .some indicators, namely to ask questions in learning 57%, Expressing their own ideas 61%, Appreciating the opinions of others 59%, Working together 66%, Open to criticism 71%, Optimistic 54%, Daring to present 63%. Suggestions after this research are conducted, which are 1). Students can further increase their confidence through working with the teacher through the provision of facilities that are necessary to carry out. 2) The teacher helps students to increase their confidence in speaking ability through activities that can support students in improving their speaking ability. Keywords : Self Confidence, Speaking Skills

Abstract

 This research aimed find out the most common cause of English Foreign Language (EFL) students’ anxiety in speaking class to the Third Semester Students of English Education Study Program of IKIP PGRI Pontianak. The subject of this research was only one class, the number of subject was 31 students from B Morning class. This research was a descriptive research. The data collected from the questionnaire and interview. The data which have been collected are analyzed by using google form as a tool to collect the data.  The findings showed the percentages of English Foreign Language (EFL) students’ anxiety in cognitive, behavioural, and physiological factors. The mean score of English Foreign Language (EFL) students’ anxiety in cognitive factor was 74.2% Then, the mean score in behavioural factor was 74%. And then the mean score in physiological factor was 72%. The students in speaking class they are lack of preparation, fear of making mistakes, afraid of the classmates that they could not do their best in speaking class. With these findings, therefore the researcher concluded that the most common cause of English Foreign Language (EFL) students’ anxiety in speaking class was cognitive factors. Keyword: English Foreign Language (EFL) students’ anxiety, speaking anxiety, descriptive research.

Abstract

The research aimed to investigate the contribution of using sparkol videoscribe media in teaching writing skill. This research reviewed the previous studies on sparkol videoscribe in teaching writing skill which were published within the past ten years. This research used systematic review as the method. The population of this research was eighteen studies, then it screened used flow charts based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. There were five studies as the sample. This research used indirect observation as a  technique and document analysis as the tools. To analyze the data, this research used thematic analysis as the technique analysis of data.  Based on the result of the review, the result indicated that (1) The use of sparkol videoscribe media helped the teacher in teaching writing skill. (2) The successful of using sparkol videoscribe media in teaching writing skill based on students’ achievement increased. (3) Sparkol videoscribe media encouraged students’ interest, motivation, activeness, and able to engage students’ attention. From the results above, the sparkol videoscribe media gave the contribution in teaching writing skill.Keywords: Systematic review, sparkol videoscribe, writing skill.

Abstract

This research aimed to explore the implementation of ARCS Model in English as a Foreign Language that have done by the teacher and students at the eleventh grade of science students of SMA Muhammadiyah Sambas.  The research implemented a descriptive research design in qualitative method. There were 1 English teacher and 15 eleventh grade of science students participated in collecting primary data. The proposed research applied direct and indirect communication technique where utilized such tool as interview and online questionnaire (open-ended) which each consist of 10 questions. The questionnaire items were modified from Mahmudah (2016). This study used technique of analyzing the qualitative data from Ary, et al. (2010: 481). The research finding indicated that from interview, it was found that in implementing the model, in attention teacher using a variety of learning media such song, video, games and others interesting media. Teacher also use humor if it was needed. In showing relevance, teacher tried to show the relevance of the material being studied with students' needs and the benefits of learning English. Next, in improving students' confidence with their ability, teacher gave hope of success, arrange the learning process and give constructive feedback. Last in creating students' satisfied, teacher gave appreciation with verbal or non-verbal praise, provided an opportunity to showing their ability, and an opportunity to the students to help their friends. Furthermore, the research finding from questionnaire indicated that the use of ARCS Model motivational learning like humor, give the real examples, give feedback, and use praise make the students are easier to understand the lesson. It also makes students feel more motivated, comfortable, and compatible in learning. Thus, it allows the students to have full concentration on the lesson which leads to their motivationally of the learning. So students perceived ARCS Model is very useful model in creating and maintaining good interest among students that proved by students’ statement.

Abstract

This research was conducted in order to know how Dictogloss Technique improve students’ listening skill on descriptive text. This research was done by using Classroom Action Research. It was carried out with the tenth grade students of SMA Abdi Agape in the academic year of 2019/2020. The subject of this research was science X IPS class which consist of 9 students. The instruments used to collect the data were field note, observation checklist table, and listening test. To analyze the data, the researcher used qualitative and quantitative data. In qualitative data, the researcher analyzed the data by using data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusion. In quantitative data, the researcher analyzed the data from the test which calculated by mean score in each cycle. The result of this research showed the improvement of students’ listening skill was successful. The researcher concluded that Dictogloss Technique improved students’ reading comprehension on recount text to the Eighth Grade Students of SMA Abdi Agape. Keywords: Listening Skill, Dictogloss Technique and Classroom Action Research.

Abstract

This study aims to execute the implementation of classroom management in English from non-native English speaking teachers at SMK Bina Bangsa Meliau. The subjects in this study were two English teachers at the school, where the two teachers taught English using different methods. Researchers used interviews and also observations in this study, interviews were conducted by the two research language teachers, and observations were made by involving the teacher and students in the class when the learning took place. This study uses qualitative data analysis techniques from Ary, et al. (2010: 481). From the results of interviews and observations, it can be seen that the problem-solving method used by the teacher has advantages and disadvantages based on circumstances and environmental situations and usage. The results of the observations prove the teacher's statement in the previous interview.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the role of technology in English language learning at SMP Negeri 13 Pontianak from the perspectives of teachers and students. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, utilizing observation, semistructured interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques. The research instruments included an observation sheet to record the use of technology in the classroom, interview guidelines to explore the perceptions and experiences of teachers and students, and a documentation checklist to gather relevant teaching materials and media. The participants consisted of one English teacher and five eighth-grade students selected through purposive sampling. The data collected were analyzed using Braun and Clarke’s thematic analysis, which involves six steps: familiarizing with data, generating initial codes, searching for themes, reviewing themes, defining and naming themes, and producing the final report. The findings revealed that technology such as Kahoot, projectors, and mobile devices effectively enhanced students’ motivation, engagement, and understanding of the learning material. Both the teacher and students expressed positive attitudes toward technology integration in the classroom. However, several challenges were identified, including limited school infrastructure,  unstable internet connectivity, and varying levels of digital literacy among students. This study recommends continuous teacher training and improvements in school facilities to optimize technology-based learning.
