Abstract

As one important crop, especially in Asia, mung bean sprouts (Vigna radiata L.) offers many benefit and profit for those who able to produce it properly. In Kebun Jati village, such kind of commodities will very help for either self-consumption or business. However, the unknown knowledge and experience in production process often results on broken mung bean sprouts. Here, the simply technique, materials and tools was introduced to society in Kebun Jati village through community empowerment with motivation, training and accompaniment. The 10 total participant joined in this activity was motivated about benefit and profit of mung bean sprouts. Besides, participant was also trained how to produce mung bean sprouts properly. The significant improvement of knowledge was found on methods of mung bean sprouts production aspect, by 90% of participant becomes understood. Further accompaniment to transform raw materials of mung bean sprouts become useful product will improve the economic value.

Abstract

Abstract

As human population grows, the demand for food production will increase and consequently causing greater stress to resources such as land and water. Aquaponic is a technology integrating hydroponic and aquaculture to optimize nutrient cycling. The problem faced by the residents of Gedung Harapan Village is that the community still has not utilized the potential for optimal use of house yards for aquaculture and agriculture. We introduce aquaponics technology to realize independence in fulfilling family nutrition in the Gedung Harapan Village, South Lampung. This activity resulted in an increase in participants' understanding and experience of fish farming in buckets (budikdamber) with aquaponics. It was advisable to encourage more people to implemented budikdamber to fulfill family nutrition.

Abstract

Orthoptera is always associated with plant vegetation, as these insects are herbivores and rely on plants as their primary food source. Institut Teknologi Sumatera is home to various types of vegetation and plant diversity, both naturally growing and managed for specific purposes. Based on this background, research is needed to inventory and document the species of grasshoppers found at Institut Teknologi Sumatera and understand their distribution and habitat. Data collection on the diversity of the Orthoptera order was carried out at Institut Teknologi Sumatera and identified in the Zoology Laboratory at Institut Teknologi Sumatera. Sampling was conducted using an insect net and the hand sorting method. Observations were conducted in the morning from 07:00 – 10:00 AM WIB and in the afternoon from 03:00 – 05:00 PM WIB. Based on the research conducted at the Institut Teknologi Sumatera, 12 genera were found at four observation station points. At station I, 161 individuals were found; at station II, 204 individuals were found; at station III, 136 individuals were found; and at station IV, 145 individuals were found. 12 genera of the order Orthoptera were found, belonging to four families. The most commonly found family was Acrididae, while the least commonly found families were Gryllidae and Pyrgomorphidae.

Abstract

Abstract

Noise is an environmental stress factor that can affect the physiological condition of livestocks. In modern farms, noise sources such as ventilation and automatic equipment can potentially disrupt the health and growth of chickens. This study aimed to examine the effects of noise exposure on the blood profile and weight gain of broiler chicks (Gallus domesticus L.). Fifteen one-week-old male broiler chicks were divided into three treatment groups—control, 85 dB noise, and 100 dB noise—with five chicks per group housed in a single cage. Exposure of noise was given for 30 days. The observed parameters included the number of erythrocyte, leukocyte, heterophile/lymphocyte ratio (H/L), random blood glucose (RBG) levels, and body weight gain. The data were analyzed using ANOVA, followed by Tukey-HSD test (α = 0.05). The results of this study showed that noise exposure significantly (p < 0.05) reduced the number of erythrocyte (control: 3.658, 85dB: 3.136, and 100dB: 2.802 ×10⁶cells/mm³) and RBG levels (control: 191.4, 85 dB: 180.0, and 100 dB: 156.8 mg/dL), but had no significant effect (p > 0.05) on the number of leukocyte (control: 1.620, 85 dB: 1.300, 100 dB: 1.100 ×103cells/mm³) and the H/L ratio (control: 0.087, 85 dB: 0.099, 100 dB: 0.093). Body weight gain in the noise-exposed groups was significantly lower than that in the control group (p < 0.05; control: 399.8, 85dB: 341.8, and 100dB: 312 g). These findings indicate that noise exposure at 85 and 100 dB may have negative effects on physiological conditions and growth.
