Abstract

WhatsApp has been extensively used by many English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers in Indonesia as a near synchronous online learning platform. This program enables users to make announcements, exchange ideas and learning materials, and participate in online debates. Some recent publications inform its utilization in learning language, yet little discusses how students engage in the learning activities. Therefore, to fill this void, the present study aims to investigate the students' behavioral engagement during online learning using WhatsApp. To collect the data, this study employed observation and semi-structured interviews. An observation was completed in one class at a state university in Tasikmalaya, West Java, Indonesia to perceive how the students responded to the teacher's instructions during the learning process. Meanwhile, the interviews were conducted with nine students in a similar class. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings revealed that students engaged behaviourally by (1) posing questions or comments politely, (2) using emoticons and emojis as politeness reinforcements, and (3) confirming the unclear information behind the scene. Implications for teaching and further studies are discussed.

Abstract

With the spread of the Covid-19 outbreak, such as an epidemic in the world, the policy of maintaining physical distance (physical distance) and social distance (social distance) has changed the pattern of life in all fields. The world of education at all levels, including early childhood education (PAUD), also feels the impact. Studying at home with an online system is an indispensable option, creating new problems in the field of education. This study aims to analyze the impact of the Covid-19 outbreak on the social development of early childhood. This research uses a qualitative descriptive research type. Data collection techniques using interviews, observation, and documentation. The technique used to ensure the validity of the data uses the source and time triangle, while the analytical technique used in this study is a qualitative analysis technique. The final results of this study indicate that the influence of Covid-19 on the social development of early childhood requires the government to issue a policy of implementing community activity restrictions (PPKM) which causes children to study from home and consequently has an impact on children's development such as cognitive development, language, and development early childhood social.

Abstract

Utilization of used goods in the environment can be used as a learning medium to trigger the creativity of students in learning and learning activities. Learning media is very influential in the implementation of the learning process, it is because students are more sensitive to see clearly than the learning material. This study aims to describe: 1) Biomath learning media obtained from used goods in the environment; 2) Simple learning media as a way to improve students' understanding of the lesson; 3) Utilization of used goods as a form of environmental care. This research was conducted in 2 cycles, each cycle consisting of four stages, namely: (1) planning, (2) implementing actions, (3) observation, and (4) reflection. The type of data collected is qualitative data in the form of observations of teacher and student activities during the teaching and learning process, and quantitative data in the form of student learning outcomes through the final evaluation test of the action. The results of this research are expected to be used by educators as a reference for obtaining learning media from used goods in the surrounding environment, so as to create varied learning with learning media that builds enthusiasm for learning and creates learning comfort to create those who can explore themselves with various things. new close to his world

Abstract

This study conducts a needs assessment to support the development of Islamic value-based edupreneurship teaching materials for English Education students at STAI Hubbulwathan Duri. Specifically, it investigates students’ perceptions, needs, and expectations regarding the integration of Islamic values into entrepreneurial learning. Using a quantitative survey design, data were collected from 111 students through a questionnaire grounded in Albert Bandura’s Social Cognitive Theory. The findings reveal that students strongly recognize the importance of aligning business practices with Islamic ethics and aspire to an entrepreneurial identity that is spiritually meaningful, seeing business as a form of da’wah and social empowerment. However, they also identified shortcomings in current learning materials, including insufficient practical guidance, limited exposure to role models, and the absence of value-based assessment methods. These results highlight an urgent need for redesigned coursebooks that incorporate contextual case studies, hands-on learning opportunities, and evaluation approaches rooted in Islamic principles. As a needs assessment, this study concludes that a revised curriculum is essential for fostering competent, ethical, and socially responsible Muslim edupreneurs.

Abstract

Menulis artikel baik itu artikel ilmiah maupun artikel popular merupakan suatu kegiatan yang sering dilakukan oleh akademisi, tak terkecuali mahasiswa. Di dalam menulis artikel, terutama artikel ilmiah tidak bisa terlepas dari yang namanya sitasi/kutipan. Sitasi/kutipan digunakan untuk mengutip atau manyadur hasil penelitian/teori sebelumnya yang berkaitan dengan penelitian yang dilakukan. Untuk mempermudah penulisan kutipan atau sitasi biasanya para akademisi menggunakan tool atau alat yang biasa disebut references tool manager. Para calon guru matematika juga sudah familiar dengan references tool manager yaitu Mendeley. Namun, akhir-akhir ini Mendeley desktop sudah tidak berfungsi lagi di beberapa PC dan digantikan dengan Mendeley References Manager (MRM). MRM sendiri memiliki beberapa kekurangan yang terkadang tidak ditemukan solusi yang pas, sehingga disini perlu adanya pelatihan tentang references tool manager yang lain yaitu Zotero. Hasil yang diperoleh yaitu mahasiswa calon guru matematika dapat menginstall Zotero, membuat akun, mensinkronisasikan akun dengan aplikasi Zotero, menambahkan sumber-sumber, mengedit metadata sumber yang belum benar, membuat sitasi, dan dapat membuat daftar Pustaka.

Abstract

This research helps determine the necessary requirements to strengthen a design of an English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course in the context of English as a foreign language, particularly in Indonesia, especially despite its marginal status in higher education curricula by exploring EAP student needs, specifically in the Digital Business department at the Institute of Digital Business Technology Riau (ITBR). Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, the research utilizes questionnaires and an interview guide to gather data from students, the head, and English instructor in the department in order to identify student needs through 1) target situation analysis, 2) discourse analysis, 3) present situation analysis, 4) learner factor analysis, and 5) teaching factor analysis. The findings reveal that the last four aspects of the needs analysis are evenly distributed, showing a total percentage of 21% of the overall percentage students' needs, indicating that students require authentic materials for the development of their skills and language components, they need proficient language skills, they also require motivation, varied teaching methods and learning environments, and they need appropriate classroom management. In contrast, the target situation analysis accounts for 16% of the overall percentage, mainly due to the differing perceptions between students, department chairs, and teaching staff. In conclusion, students in the Digital Business department have specific needs accompanied by high motivation, which supports their attainment of good communication skills in their field, emphasizing the importance of aligning perceptions regarding the needs in developing an EAP course to achieve EAP learning objectives.

Abstract

Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi guru MTsN di Kabupaten Ngawi dalam menyusun best practice dan mempublikasikan karya ilmiah. Melalui pelatihan intensif dan pendampingan langsung, guru-guru dibekali dengan keterampilan yang dibutuhkan untuk menyusun artikel ilmiah yang berkualitas. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi partisipatif, wawancara terstruktur, kuesioner, dan dokumentasi. Hasil menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam pemahaman dan keterampilan guru dalam menyusun best practice dan artikel ilmiah. Pelatihan dan pendampingan langsung efektif meningkatkan kompetensi guru, dan disarankan agar pihak sekolah dan dinas pendidikan terus memberikan dukungan berkelanjutan.
