Abstract

This study discusses “the local wisdom summarized in the proverbs of the Javanese community in Ex-residency of Surakarta”. The purposes of this study are to describe (1) the background of the local wisdom as summarize in the proverbs of the Javanese community in Ex-residency of Surakarta, (2) to elaborate further reasons and specific times the people in Ex-residency of Surakarta employ the Javanese proverbs that summarize the local wisdom, and (3) explain the cultural meanings resided in the Javanese proverbs. This study employed ethnographic methods framed by the ethnolinguistic study to find the cultural meanings. Data and the data sources are categorized into primary and secondary data; the data collection method is done through the observation-participation and in-depth interview techniques; data analysis employed the ethnoscience model which underwent 12-phases of advanced research stages (of taxonomic, componential and domain analyses) to find the cultural themes; validity of the data is attested with the triangulation techniques (the triangulation of data, methods, researcher, and theory). The results encompassed (1) background of the local wisdom summarized in the Javanese proverbs  expressed by the Javanese community in Ex-residency of Surakarta influenced by the cultural factors, the Javanese language, aesthetical, ethical, social, economical, political, and geographical factors; (2) the community in Ex-Surakarta expressed the Javanese proverb that summarizes local wisdom, the demands of fidelity to the culture is inevitable, media that facilitates the growth of the Javanese language, aesthetical and ethical motivations, social conditions, economical motivation, political media which show the geographical background; and (3) the cultural meaning of the Javanese proverbs which summarize the local wisdom of the community in Ex-residency of Surakarta, all of which are to show the courtesy, avoid direct confrontation, the proverbs also indicate levels of the beauty of the language use, nationalism, foster cooperation, develop the intellect.

Abstract

The research aimed to describe the Madurese color lexicons with plant attributes and to analyze those lexicons metaphorically. This research engaged 18 informants to denote Madurese color lexicons by showing 139 color cards. The referential comparison method was followed by sorting the decisive element technique through referential competence-in-dividing, and Connect Compare Equate as the advanced technique was used as the data analysis method. The research finds that 53 color lexicons with plant attributes in 8 Madurese color lexicons, namely potѐ ‘white’, celleng ‘black’, mѐra ‘red’, bhiru ‘green’, konѐng ‘yellow’, cokklat ‘brown’, bhiru ‘blue’, and bungo ‘purple’. Furthermore, these plant attributes can be classified into fruits, flowers, vegetables, seeds, spices, leaves, trees, part of the tree, and part of the fruit. The domination of plant attributes in Madurese color lexicons emerges due to the sociocultural factors embodied in Madurese ethnic group itself, those are (1) farming is Madurese main way of living, (2) Madurese ethnic group respect the nature as the place where they can pray and thank God, and (3) some objects associated with color lexicons are abundantly available at their surroundings, thus they frequently use it in their daily life.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out the cultural meaning of verbal and non-verbal expression represented in the nyaébuh tradition of people in Aeng tong-tong, Saronggi, Sumenep. This research was a qualitative descriptive using an ethnographic method with ethnoscience analysis. Data were obtained from the interview result with two informants of verbal and non-verbal expression. It finds that this tradition in the form of almsgiving whereby the charity is devoted to the deceased in the hope that it can alleviate and erase the sins of the deceased, in addition to which it can increase unity, harmony, family, harmony between people and others. This research can provide the benefits of knowledge about the meaning contained in the tradition of nyaébuh, and it can give the Sumenep community’s insights about the meaning of tradition through verbal and non-verbal language expressions. Besides that, it can share knowledge about the culture and traditions of Madura for each different region.

Abstract

Ada dua tujuan utama yang hendak dicapai dalam penelitian ini, yaitu pertama untuk mendeskripsikan proses morfosintaksis yang difokuskan pada seluk-beluk prefiks resiprokal ki- dalam bahasa Loloda dan tujuan kedua adalah menemukan dasar berkategori sintaksis apa saja yang dapat diimbuhi prefiks resiprokal tersebut tanpa mengabaikan kesesuaian atau harmoni fonologis dalam Bahasa Loloda sebagai anggota kelompok bahasa Halmahera Utara yang wajar dan berterima. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah klausa atau kalimat yang mengandung prefiks resiprokal ki-. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui teknik wawancara dan teknik introspeksi. Data yang terjaring dianalisis secara kualitatif deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa prefiks resiprokal ki- dapat berpadu dengan verba yang silabe pertamanya mengandung vocal /i/. Ditemukan pula bahwa terdapat lima kategori sintaksis yang dapat berpadu dengan prefiks resipokal tersebut, di antaranya verba, nomina, adjektiva, numerial dan interjeksi. Selain itu, terdapat kekecualian yaitu nomina tokata ‘setan/roh jahat’, loanga ‘bambu’ dan adjektiva modongo ‘takut’ yang silabe pertamanya tidak mengandung vokal /i/, tetapi dapat diimbuhi dengan prefiks resiprokal ki- menjadi kitokata ‘kerasukan setan/roh jahat’, kiloana ‘bambu ambil air’ dan kimodongo yang bermakna ‘menakuti atau ditakuti’.

Abstract

Rice culture society, which is a society that has a set of supernatural values and beliefs in rice entities. As a strong rice-cultured society, all main activities of Kasepuhan Ciptagelar community are centered on rice. There are many series of rituals performed during one cycle of rice planting. This study attempts to describe the problem (1) how the forms of Sundanese vocabulary are used in a series of rituals of rice culture during one cycle of rice planting in Kasepuhan Ciptagelar Sukabumi , (2) how the lexical meaning and cultural meaning of those terms, (3) how the functions of the meaning. This research is a qualitative descriptive study with an ethnolinguistic approach. This descriptive qualitative research also utilizes ethnographic methods. Ethnographic methods are used in this study because data collection is done directly. The analysis model used is a model of cognitive anthropology or ethnoscience or also known as the new ethnography. The location of this research is in the Kasepuhan Ciptagelar Indigenous community in the area of Mount Halimun Salak National Park, Sukamulya Village, Sirnaresmi Village, Cisolok District, Sukabumi Regency, West Java. Based on data analysis in this study, there were 32 series of rituals from cultural activities carried out for 10 months in one cycle of rice planting in Kasepuhan Ciptagelar.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Following the 1945 Constitution, the state is obliged to preserve the arts and culture of Indonesia. Kabinet Kerja commemorating 88 Years of Sumpah Pemuda with Nusantara Berdendang show at Istana Merdeka on October 28, 2016. This study discussesa multiculturalism discourse presented in the performance based on the Cultural Studies paradigm with the support of Stuart Hall's representation theory and power theory of Foucault. The research usesa qualitative method with descriptive and interpretative analysis.The multiculturalism discourse is produced by the Kabinet Kerja through performing arts that appear in Nusantara Berdendang. Performing arts are used by the state as a tool to show diversity, as well as a unifying symbol. The state ceremony becomes a discursive area of multiculturalism to implement the unity and unity of Indonesia. Multiculturalism discourse is used to facilitate the success of the Nawacita program. The implication is that Indonesia's image is a bhinneka state, (2) a tolerant and peaceful image of Indonesia,and (3) obedience to the government authorities. Keywords: multiculturalism, Kabinet Kerja, performing art, diversity, ethnicity ABSTRAK Sesuai dengan Undang-undang Dasar 1945, negara berkewajiban memelihara kesenian dan kebudayaan Indonesia.Kabinet Kerja memperingati 88 Tahun Sumpah Pemuda dengan pergelaran Nusantara Berdendang di Istana Negara pada 28 Oktober 2016. Penelitian ini membaca diskursus multikulturalisme yang dihadirkan dalam pergelaran tersebut dengan paradigma Kajian Budaya dengan dukungan teori representasi Stuart Hall (2003)  dan teori kuasa/pengetahuan. Penelitian menggunakan teknik analisis deskriptif kualitatif dan interpretatif.Diskursus multikulturalisme diproduksi oleh Kabinet Kerja melalui seni pertunjukan yang tampil di Nusantara Berdendang.Seni pertunjukan digunakan oleh negara sebagai alat untuk menunjukkan keberagaman, sekaligus sebagai simbol pemersatu.Seremoni negara menjadi area diskursif multikulturalisme untuk merawat kesatuan dan persatuan Indonesia. Diskursus multikulturalisme dilakukan oleh Kabinet untuk memperlancar suksesnya program Nawacita. Implikasinya, citra Indonesia merupakan negara bineka, (2) citra Indonesia yang toleran dan damai, serta (3) kepatuhan pada penguasa pemerintahan. Kata kunci: multikulturalisme, Kabinet Kerja, kesenian, keberagaman etnik

Abstract

This research aimed to describe the morphological process which focused on reciprocal prefix ko- and to find the word class of the base word that could attach with that prefix in Loloda language. The sources of data were Loloda language used by Lolodanese in the field research. The data were clauses or sentences that contained base word with reciprocal prefix ko-. The data obtained through several methods and techniques, such as observation and conversation, elicitation technique, recording, taking notes, and introspection technique. Introspection technique was used because the researcher is the speaker of this language. The data were analyzed by a qualitative descriptive method. The researchers used morphologic perspective to analyze the data. The results show that reciprocal prefix can attach with base words that have vocal /o/ in the first syllable. Moreover, there are several categories of the base word can attach with reciprocal prefix ko- such as the verb, noun or noun phrase, adjective, and interrogative. The function of the reciprocal prefix is to form the active verb.

Abstract

The aim this research was to describe the names of the tools used in salt farming in Rembang district, which was viewed from an ethnolinguistic perspective. This research was a qualitative research using the Spradley ethnographic method. Data collection used participatory observation and interview techniques. The collected data were analyzed using the ethnosains analysis model. The results show that salt farmers in Rembang regency know at least 13 names of tools in salt farming, namely: ebor, sirat, kincir, desel, garuk, kusut, slender, ekrak, tolok, mbatan, angkong, dium, and ukuran banyu. The thirteen tools can be classified according to their functions, such as (1) to move seawater; (2) to flatten the pond bottom; (3) to compact the pond bottom; (4) to move the salt into a sack or conveyance; (5) to transport the salt in storage area; (6) for coating the bottom of the pond; (7) to determine the density of seawater in the pond.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to describe the typicality and uniqueness of master of ceremony ‘pambiwara`s’ language in the panggih temanten procession of Kahiyang Ayu and Bobby Nasution`s wedding ceremony in Surakarta. This research is a qualitative- descriptive with a stylistic approach. The data resources are the text of pambiwara`s speech in the panggih temanten procession of Kahiyang Ayu and Bobby Nasution`s wedding ceremony. The research data are an orthographic transcription of pambiwara`s speech, which is broadcasted live by national televisions. The scrutinizing technique was used to collect the information by scrutinizing the language use of pambiwara. In this context, scrutinizing techniques consist of extracting the uniqueness of language use, encompassing the uniqueness of speech sound and the typicality of morphology in the language of pambiwara. The data was then analyzed through scrutinizing technique and note-taking technique. The result of the research shows that pambiwara in the panggih temanten procession of Kahiyang Ayu and Bobby Nasution`s wedding ceremony has an aesthetic language use, which accentuates on the uniqueness and the typicality of speech sound and morphologic of language. (Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan kekhasan bahasa pada bahasa pewara ‘pambiwara’ dalam upacara panggih temanten Kahiyang Ayu dan Bobby Nasution di Surakarta. Penelitian ini berbentuk deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan stilistika. Sumber data data tertulis yang berupa satu teks ‘pambiwara’ dalam upacara panggih temanten Kahiyang Ayu dan Bobby Nasution di Surakarta. Sumber data tersebut berupa sumber data lisan yang disampaikan oleh ‘pambiwara’ yang berasal dari informan. Data berupa transkipsi ortografis ‘pambiwara’ dalam upacara panggih temanten Kahiyang Ayu dan Bobby Nasution di Surakarta yang disiarkan langsung di TV nasional. Teknik dasar yang dipakai adalah menggunakan teknik simak, yaitu teknik mendapatkan data dengan cara menyimak penggunaan bahasa. Dalam hal ini menyadap analisis tentang kekhasan pemakaian bahasa meliputi kekhasan bunyi bahasa dan kekhasan morfologi bahasa dalam bahasa ‘pambiwara’, dan lanjutannya menggunakan teknik simak dan teknik catat. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa ‘pambiwara’ dalam upacara panggih temanten Kahiyang Ayu dan Bobby Nasution di Surakarta mempunyai keindahan bahasa yang berfokus pada kekhasan aspek morfologi bahasa.)

Abstract

This research is based on improving the oral culture (folklore) and native language which is an intellectual wealth of a nation. Folklore is an oral culture that is passed down through generation to generation in its submission and defense. Whereas in the modern generation that desperately needs more attention to keep preserving it. This research aims to find out the reflections of Gunungpati society's lexicon on the folklore of Goa Kreo as a petilasan of Sunan Kalijaga in Semarang City. Folklore of Goa Kreo as  petilasan of Sunan Kalijaga became the beginning of  Sesaji Rewanda tradition in Gunungpati Semarang. The research method used is qualitative descriptive.  The data collection in this research uses participation observation techniques, in-depth interviews, library studies and documents. The data that has been obtained is analyzed with an ethnolinguistic approach, then the data analysis technique is done by ethnographic analysis methods covering domains, taxonomy, and components. The results of analysis this research data are the forms of lexicon of Gunungpati society on the Goa Kreo’s folklore in the form of lingual units including of monomorphists, polymorphists, phrases and clauses. The folklore lexicons of Goa Kreo in Javanese have cultural, lexical and contextual meanings that reflecting the local wisdom of Gunungpati society.
