Abstract

This study aims to determine students' mathematical representation ability in solving ethnomathematics-based story problems, to determine students' self-efficacy in mathematics learning and to determine students' mathematical representation ability in solving ethnomathematics-based story problems in terms of self-efficacy. This study uses a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The subjects of the study were students at one of the State Junior High Schools in Cianjur, class VIII A with a total of 29 students selected by purposive sampling. The instruments were in the form of mathematical representation ability test questions, self-efficacy questionnaires, and interviews based on mathematical representation indicators. The data analysis technique used on the test results and questionnaires was carried out by adding up the scores then categorizing and describing them in words, while the interview results would be described as supporting the results of the students' answers. The results of the data analysis showed that more students had mathematical representation abilities, namely 25 students. In student self-efficacy, it was known that more students were in the moderate category, namely 22 students. In terms of students' mathematical representation ability, viewed from self-efficacy, there are more in the medium category because the self-efficacy of students in the medium category is the largest, as well as their mathematical representation ability, which is also the largest in the medium category, while in the high category of students' self-efficacy, there are still students who have medium mathematical representation ability and in the low category of students' self-efficacy, students have medium mathematical representation ability.

Abstract

Numeracy skills are a crucial aspect in supporting students' skills in facing real-life challenges. This article explains the implementation of Mathventure in Community Service activities integrated into the Campus Mengajar Batch 8 activities in 2024 at Hegarmanah Islamic Junior High School, Sukabumi Regency, as an innovation in project-based contextual numeracy learning. This program aims to improve numeracy understanding and interest in mathematical concepts through an approach that is relevant to everyday life. The subjects consisted of 30 students from class VIII who would carry out the Minimum Competency Assessment. The methods used included the Minimum Competency Assessment test, observation, interviews, and documentation. The program was implemented in three stages: pre-assignment, implementation of activities and the final stage of assignments. The results of the activities showed an increase in participation, understanding of concepts, and 21st century skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, and communication. The pre-test score results ranged from 5–45, while the post-test showed an increase with a range of 30–80. These findings show that the Mathventure program with a project-based approach has proven effective in bridging the gap between theory and practice, as well as strengthening the character of active and independent learning of students.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are important for students in mathematics learning, but this ability has not developed optimally in most students. This study aims to determine the achievement and improvement of students' critical thinking skills through the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach assisted by Liveworksheets, as well as to see students' responses to the learning. This study used the Quasi Experimental method with Nonequivalent Comparison Group Design. The study population was students of grades X-1 and X-2 of SMA PGRI Cianjur in the 2024/2025 academic year who were selected by purposive sampling. The experimental class used the RME approach assisted by Liveworksheets, while the control class used conventional learning. Critical thinking ability instruments were found in the SPLTV material and student response questionnaires. Data analysis to see achievement used the difference test of two means while improvement data was analyzed using Mann Whitney and student responses used percentages based on students' positive responses. The results showed that the achievement of students' critical thinking skills with the RME approach assisted by Liveworksheets was better than conventional learning; Meanwhile, the increase in students' critical thinking skills in the experimental class was better than conventional learning and was in the low category and students' attitudes responded positively to learning with the RME approach assisted by Liveworksheets
