Abstract

Since the Jews declared the establishment of the state of Israel in the Palestinian territories in 1948, Indonesia has been part of the party opposing the Israeli occupation and supporting the Palestinian people's efforts to gain their right to independence. In terms of humanitarian assistance, zakat, infaq and alms management institutions are increasingly promoting various humanitarian aids, one of which is the Indonesia’s National Zakat Agency (BAZNAS). This study aims to analyze the value of the contribution of zakat, infaq and alms funds by BAZNAS for humanitarian aid in Palestine. The sampling method used in this research is purposive sampling. Data is described using descriptive analysis. The results of this study indicate that the value of the contribution to the distribution of ZIS funds for Palestinian humanitarian assistance carried out by BAZNAS in 2018-2021 is volatile. The largest distribution of zakat funds for Palestinian humanitarian aid occurred in 2018 which was 2,531,430,175.00. While the largest infaq and alms funds occurred in 2021, which amounted to 597,268,865.00. The factor that causes this fluctuation in the level of distribution is because the value of distributing Palestinian humanitarian aid depends on the pattern of cooperation built by BAZNAS with other humanitarian institutions.

Abstract

Islamic economics has been growing immensely for almost four decades since the First International Conference on Islamic economics held in Makkah in February 1976. Many improvements on developing Islamic economics as an independent discipline have been done by many scholars. One of the most prominent contemporary scholars who have made some significant work in building Islamic economics by combining the existing modern economics with Islamic teaching is Zubair Hasan. Therefore, the main objective of the study is to provide a summary and analysis of Hasan’s economic thought on Islamic economics. The study is based on secondary data, taken from some books, articles, and journal that Hasan has produced. This study uses a descriptive analysis and employs an inductive approach in tracking and collecting materials and references written by Zubair Hasan from 1975 to 2014. The analytical approach was used to identify Hasan’s thought on several topics in the area of Islamic economics. The study suggests Hasan views on Islamic economics are comprehensive and cover almost all aspects that Islamic economics needs to explain. This includes underlying assumptions, scope of objectives, the role of state and individual, institutional frameworks, distribution, and profit in Islam. His analysis is basically a critical integration between modern economics with Islamic heritage.

Abstract

Musharakah, a unique Islamic mode of financing, involves joint contributions of capital and labor by both financier and entrepreneur. This profit and loss sharing (PLS) contract is considered one of the most ideal Islamic financing models, embodying the principles of cooperation and partnership. A specific application of this model is the diminishing partnership contract, known as Musharakah Mutanaqisah (MM). This study explores the implementation of musharakah and MM in Islamic microfinance through a qualitative comparative case study of two institutions: Bank Pembiayaan Rakyat Syariah (BPRS) Amanah Ummah Bogor, Indonesia, and Entrepreneurship Development Program (i-Taajir) under the Centre for Islamic Economics IIUM-CIMB Islamic Bank, Malaysia. Data were collected through interview, financial reports, institutional documents, and secondary sources, and analyzed thematically. The findings reveal that while both institutions apply musharakah-based financing to empower micro-entrepreneurs, they face challenges related to risk management, regulatory frameworks, and limited client understanding. Managerial implications suggest the need for better financial literacy programs, internal capacity building, and policy support to optimize musharakah implementation in microfinance settings. This study offers recommendations for enhancing the sustainability and operational effectiveness of equity-based Islamic financing models in the microfinance sector.
