Abstract

Organizations generally look for ways to achieve high performance from employees but sometimes ignore the important role of work engagement, as in the case of public sector organizations, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic. The main objective of this research is to determine the effect of flexible working arrangements and perceived supervisor support on work engagement and employee performance. We surveyed 321 civil servants who carry out flexible working arrangements at Government Financial Organization. We identify the effect of flexible working arrangements and perceived supervisor support on work engagement and the role of work engagement as a mediator of flexible working arrangements and perceived supervisor support on employee performance using a covariance-based structural equation modeling (CB-SEM) approach. The findings show that flexible working arrangements and perceived supervisor support have a positive and significant effect on work engagement and employee performance through the mediation of work engagement. Furthermore, work engagement has a positive and significant impact on employee performance. This study contributes to an investigation into the predictors that influence employee performance considering the limited research on work engagement and employee performance in the Indonesian public sector, especially after changes in work patterns after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

One of the characteristics of creative economy workers is innovative behavior, which is expected to continue to develop and spread among human resources in Indonesia. This research aims to provide an understanding of the factors that can encourage innovative work behavior among creative economy workers. Dominated by workers of productive age, one of the factors that can attract workers is flexibility of working hours which can produce job satisfaction and is closely related to superior support and the ability of workers to complete work under current conditions. This quantitative research involved a sample of 320 workers in the creative economy sector in Indonesia. Data was collected through questionnaires distributed online, and the relationships between variables were analyzed using CB-SEM with LISREL. The results show that flexible working arrangements, supervisor support, and job crafting have a significant influence on innovative work behavior, mediated by job satisfaction.

Abstract

Objective: The study aimed to investigate and evaluate the impact of person-organization fit (POF), person-job fit (PJF), and person-group fit (PGF) on turnover intention through job satisfaction (JS) in startup companies. Startup companies play an important role in society and the global economy. Design/Methods/Approach: Data was gathered through an online survey of workers in startup businesses, with 449 data. The analytical method used in this study was LISREL's Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) analysis to examine the relationship between employee fit, such as person-organization fit, person-job fit, and person-group fit, on turnover intention, mediated by job satisfaction. Findings: The findings show that job satisfaction is positively and significantly impacted by person-organization fit, person-job fit, and person-group fit. Job satisfaction was found to fully mediate the effect of person-organization fit, person-job fit, and person-group fit on turnover intention. Originality: Limited research focuses on startup companies, so this study is unique. There is still a need for more research on person-group fit, as most research has focused on person-organization fit and person-job fit. Practical implication: In order to create and maintain job satisfaction among employees, companies can create an environment that encourages open and transparent communication within companies, letting employees freely express their thoughts, ideas, and concerns. Furthermore, prioritizing work-life balance by offering flexible work schedules is critical to increasing job satisfaction. Then, they should align with their values, provide rewards, provide effective supervision, and foster a positive work environment. This is crucial to reduce turnover intention in startup companies.

Abstract

Creativity and innovation are essential for enhancing public sector organizations and services. Given the hierarchical structure of public sector entities, leadership and employee motivation play a pivotal role in cultivating creativity and innovation. This study examines the effects of leadership styles such as transformational (TF), transactional (TSC), servant (SL), authentic (AL), and authoritarian (AU), along with public service motivation (PSM) on employee creativity and innovation (CI), through mediating psychological empowerment (PSE). Data obtained from 454 civil servants at Indonesia’s Ministry of Manpower were analyzed using Covariance-Based Structural Equation Modeling (CBSEM). This study discovered that TF, SL, and AU, along with PSM, positively influence creativity and innovation through PSE. Conversely, TSC and AL do not have a notable impact. This study contributes both theoretical and practical contributions to the field of human resources and organizational development, by providing empirical evidence and deeper insights into the determinants of employee creativity and innovation.

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between perceiving a calling and intention to stay among volunteers of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Jabodetabek, with the mediating role of living a calling. Through a quantitative approach and the Covariance-Based Structural Equation Modelling (CBSEM) method, data from 350 respondents were analyzed. The results showed that perceiving a calling has a significant influence on intention to stay, and living a calling strengthens the relationship. Managerial implications include the importance of programs that align with volunteers' intrinsic motivation, recognition of contributions, training, and the creation of a supportive work environment. This study is limited to the Jabodetabek area with a small sample size. Further studies are expected to cover a wider area and use mixed methods to enrich the results. This study provides practical insights for NGOs to improve volunteer retention through a calling-based approach.
