Abstract

Early language development is crucial for children’s cognitive and social growth. This study aims to investigate the relationship between parental linguistic stimulation, emotional support, and children’s speaking ability. The research involved 30 preschool and kindergarten children at KB-TK Amanah Qurani in the 2024/2025 academic year. Data were collected using questionnaires completed by teachers and parents. Due to non-normal distribution in two variables, Spearman Rank Correlation was used for analysis. Results show significant positive correlations among all variables. Parental linguistic stimulation and emotional support are strongly correlated (? = 0.735, p < 0.001). Children’s speaking ability has a moderate positive correlation with linguistic stimulation (? = 0.573, p = 0.001) and a strong positive correlation with emotional support (? = 0.640, p < 0.001). These findings indicate that higher parental involvement in language and emotional development is associated with better speaking skills in early childhood. This study emphasizes the vital role of both cognitive and emotional support in language acquisition and recommends greater focus on parent-child interaction in early education programs.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between social media use and language politeness among students at SMP N 222 East Jakarta, considering that social media serves as a socialization space that influences teenagers’ linguistic interactions. The study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational design and involves 180 students from grades 7 to 9. Data were collected through a Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics and Spearman’s non-parametric correlation test because one of the variables was not normally distributed. The results show that students have a fairly high level of social media use (M = 3.5406) and a high level of language politeness (M = 4.2044). The Spearman correlation test revealed a weak but significant positive relationship between social media use and language politeness (r = 0.209, p = 0.005), indicating that the more students engage with social media, the more likely their language politeness increases, although the effect is small. These findings confirm that social media can function as a social space supporting polite linguistic behavior. The implication for education is the need for digital literacy and supervision of online interactions by schools and parents to guide teenagers’ language behavior in a positive way.

Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to investigate and validate the impact of the Substitution Drill technique on students' English speaking learning outcomes in fifth grade of SD 05 Makassar, East Jakarta. Substitution drill is a teaching method that falls under the Drill Method umbrella and is widely used in language instruction to train sounds and sentence patterns in a language. The activity entails repetitive practice to achieve permanent skills. In substitution drill, students are instructed to replace specific elements within a sentence or conversation. This study delves into the impact of substitution drill on students' English speaking proficiency. A total of 60 students were chosen as research samples using the total sampling method. Data for the study was gathered through interview tests. Subsequently, the data was subjected to quantitative analysis to ascertain the effect of the Substitution Drill technique on students' English speaking ability as part of the hypothesis test. Data analysis was performed using a t-test at a significance level (α) of 0.05. The findings of statistical tests reveal that the tobserved value is greater than the ttable, indicating a significant influence of the Substitution Drill technique on students' learning outcomes in English speaking skills.

Abstract

Literacy skills are a fundamental foundation in the academic development of elementary school students. However, conventional teaching methods often fail to engage students and foster their motivation to learn. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of learning through urban park exploration in improving students' literacy skills and intrinsic motivation. The research used a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design, involving 50 third-grade students at Sekolah Alam Indonesia Cipedak. Data were collected through literacy tests and motivation questionnaires, and analyzed using descriptive statistics and a paired sample t-test. The results showed an increase in literacy scores from an average of 46.10 to 53.32, with a t-test result of t = -7.178, p = 0.000 (p < 0.05). Students’ intrinsic motivation was also high, with an average score of 4.04 (SD = 0.402). These findings suggest that real-world environmental exploration can enhance literacy while also fostering students’ internal drive to learn. This model supports Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory of learning and offers an alternative that is contextual, active, and enjoyable for elementary school students.

Abstract

Museums are not only places to display historical objects, but also powerful spaces that shape how people understand the past through stories, language, and images. This study explores how ideological messages are built through written texts and visual elements in the dioramas of the National Museum of Indonesian History. Using a qualitative approach, the research combines narrative analysis based on Tzvetan Todorov’s five narrative stages and Stuart Hall’s theory of representation. Data were collected through observation and photo documentation of 51 dioramas across four main historical periods. The findings show that the museum presents Indonesian history in a clear but state-centered way, emphasizing national pride, anti-colonial struggle, and male heroism. The texts often use nationalistic and elite-centered language, promoting a single dominant view of history. This excludes other voices, such as those of women, local communities, and ordinary people. The study shows that museums do more than inform. They help shape public understanding of history. Therefore, it is important to examine museum language critically to promote a more inclusive national narrative.

Abstract

The increasing prevalence of adolescent anxiety and the growing influence of toxic positivity in digital culture have intensified scholarly interest in how emotions are represented and regulated in contemporary society. While previous studies on Inside Out have primarily examined emotional development from psychological and educational perspectives, the discursive struggle between competing emotional narratives remains underexplored. This study aims to investigate the linguistic strategies employed by Joy and Anxiety, analyze their discourse struggle within Headquarters, and explain how this conflict reflects contemporary adolescent mental health experiences. Employing a qualitative approach, the study analyzes the script of Inside Out 2 using Norman Fairclough’s three-dimensional Critical Discourse Analysis framework, encompassing text, discourse practice, and sociocultural practice. The findings reveal that Joy and Anxiety construct emotional authority through contrasting discursive strategies: Joy promotes optimism, certainty, and emotional control, whereas Anxiety emphasizes vigilance, anticipation, and future-oriented concerns. Their interaction constitutes a struggle for discursive dominance over Riley’s identity formation and decision-making processes. Furthermore, this conflict mirrors broader sociocultural pressures experienced by adolescents, including social media visibility, performance-oriented expectations, and the normalization of emotional self-regulation. The study contributes to Critical Discourse Analysis by conceptualizing emotions as competing forms of emotional hegemony and offers insights for media literacy and adolescent mental health education.
