Abstract

The Covid-19 outbreak has had a serious impact on various aspects of life and so far no drugs and antivirals have been found to completely cure the outbreak. Covid-19 has also become a serious threat in the economic field, one of which is in the field of processing fishery products. This study aims to determine the resilience of MEMEs in processed fisheries before the pandemic and during the COVID-19 pandemic in Makassar City. The sample in this study were eight MSMEs processed fisheries in the city of Makassar which were selected by purposive sampling. Primary data collection was carried out by interview using the help of a questionnaire. The data that has been collected was analyzed using a qualitative descriptive method. The results of the study show that the adaptations or strategies adopted by MEMEs in processing fisheries in meeting their daily needs are grouped into three categories, namely: The first is an active strategy, namely carrying out various activities by self-employment. The second passive strategy is trying to avoid risks caused by non-economic shocks (e.g. reducing social costs, health, education, and surrendering to circumstances). Furthermore, the network strategy is for example establishing relationships to obtain assistance both informally and formally from other parties.

Abstract

Fisheries extension officers play a strategic role in empowering and developing fishermen's groups toward sustainable and productive agribusiness. This study aims to evaluate the roles of fishery extension officers as facilitators, communicators, and motivators, as well as to identify key challenges in the development of fishermen groups in Sumpang Binangae Village and Barru Regency. A descriptive quantitative approach was applied, with data collected through observations, interviews, documentation, and questionnaires involving 18 respondents from three groups of fishermen. The results indicated that the extension officer’s role as a facilitator was perceived as “active” by 66.7% of respondents, as a communicator “very active” by 72.2%, and as a motivator “active” by 55.6%. The main challenges included a limited number of extension personnel, time constraints of fishermen, and lack of extension facilities and tools. These findings highlight the need to strengthen extension institutions through participatory, integrated, and community-based approaches to improve the effectiveness of fishery agribusiness development at the grassroots level.

Abstract

This community service activity aimed to enhance the capacity of tilapia farmers at the UPR Kampung Tengah, Gowa Regency, in producing locally based, self-formulated feed. The main problem faced by farmers was the high cost of commercial feed, which accounted for 60–70% of total production expenses. To address this issue, a training program was conducted consisting of socialization on tilapia nutritional requirements, selection of local feed ingredients (such as rice bran, fish meal, snail meal, and vitamin mix), and direct demonstrations of the pellet feed production process. The implementation methods included a pre-test, material presentation, post-test, and hands-on feed-making practice assisted by internship students. The results showed a significant improvement in participants’ understanding, with the average score increasing from 3.6 (pre-test) to 9.1 (post-test), indicating a gain of 5.5 points. Participants were also able to practice the feed processing stages, including grinding, mixing, molding, and drying. This training not only provided theoretical knowledge but also equipped farmers with practical skills in independent feed production, thereby reducing dependence on factory-made feed, lowering production costs, and promoting greater self-reliance and sustainability in tilapia aquaculture enterprises.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has opened up opportunities for MSMEs to expand their product marketing through the use of e-commerce. However, many MSMEs in the fishery sector in Takalar Regency have not yet optimally utilized digital platforms. This condition encourages the need for efforts to increase digital literacy and the capacity of fishery MSMEs in online marketing. The Fisheries Agribusiness Study Program at Hasanuddin University (Unhas) conducted community service activities with the theme " E-commerce for MSMEs: Opening Global Market Opportunities through Digital Marketing". This activity aims to provide understanding to MSMEs so they can utilize e-commerce as a means of marketing and business development. The implementation method includes presentations, simulations, and question-and-answer sessions integrated with the practice of using e-commerce. The results of the activity indicate an increase in the understanding and skills of fishery MSMEs in utilizing e-commerce. The use of e-commerce is expected to help fishery MSMEs overcome marketing constraints, increase sales, improve the welfare of business actors, and support regional economic growth.
