Abstract

Abstract

The purpose of this study To determine the process of implementing the magic box media in improving children's language skills in class A Based on the results of the study, the application of the magic box media was carried out clearly and variedly so that it could attract the attention of students by improving language skills. Improvements can be seen from the research that has been conducted in cycles I and II. Students who participate achieve developmental characteristics, students are able to understand the instructions given by the teacher in language that is easy to understand. Improvements in students' language skills can be seen from the child's ability to mention the pictures they get and are able to tell their experiences related to what is remembered. The increase can be seen from the pre-cycle with a percentage of 100% or 15 children have developed (MB) with an average value of 30% which can be said that children have not developed according to the indicator, then in cycle 1 there was an increase with a percentage of 100% or 15 children have developed according to expectations (BSH) and 13 or 2 students who have developed very well (BSB) with an average value of 66% which can be said that students have not developed according to the indicator and continue to cycle II. In cycle II, students experienced a very good increase with a percentage of 100% or 15 students who had developed very well (BSB) with an average value of 98% which can be said to have increased according to the success indicator of 75%, therefore the researcher stopped the Classroom Action research with an average value of 98%.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: The purpose of this study is to explore ethnomathematics elements in traditional Cang Kuning food, especially in the concept of geometry and its presentation patterns, and to integrate Cang Kuning as a contextual and relevant mathematics learning medium for students' lives. Methodology: This study uses a qualitative approach with an ethnographic research type. The tools used include interview sheets, observation sheets, and visual documentation. Data collection methods consist of participant observation and in-depth interviews. A literature review was conducted to support the analysis, while the software used for data analysis was NVivo. Main Findings: This study shows that Cang Kuning cake contains various mathematical concepts, including comparison, similarity, and spatial shapes. The process of making the cake reflects the application of geometry in its design and presentation. This cake also has significant cultural value, reflecting the philosophy of the Bugis people and has the potential as a contextual mathematics learning medium. Novelty/Originality of this study: The novelty of this research lies in the exploration of ethnomathematics in traditional Cang Kuning food, which has not been widely studied before. This research develops knowledge about the integration of culture and mathematics, and shows the importance of cultural context in mathematics learning. This provides new insights for educators to create more relevant and interesting learning methods for students.

Abstract

The ability to recognize number symbols is an important aspect of cognitive development in early childhood. However, some children still have difficulty recognizing the symbols for numbers 1–10, so an engaging and age-appropriate learning approach is needed. This community service activity aims to improve children's ability to recognize number symbols through the use of thematically designed and interactive flannel boards. The type of community service conducted is service learning through thematic learning support using educational media. The activity was carried out at TK Madani Alauddin in Makassar City, involving 15 children. The effectiveness of the activity was measured through observations of children's engagement and achievement of cognitive development indicators, particularly the ability to recognize number symbols 1–10. The results showed that most children achieved the “very good development” category, indicating that the flannel board medium was effective in helping children understand number symbols concretely. Therefore, the use of educational media such as flannel boards can be recommended as a fun and meaningful learning strategy for counting in early childhood education.

Abstract

Mathematical habits of mind and critical thinking skills are essential in mathematics learning; however, they often differ between male and female students. This study aims to describe students’ mathematical habits of mind and critical thinking skills based on gender, as well as to analyze the influence of mathematical habits of mind on critical thinking skills. This research employed an ex post facto design with a quantitative approach, conducted at SMP Negeri 2 Pattallassang with a population of 207 eighth-grade students. A total of 136 students were selected as the sample using a simple random sampling technique. The instruments used were a questionnaire to measure mathematical habits of mind and a test to assess critical thinking skills, while data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and simple linear regression. The results showed that female students demonstrated better mathematical habits of mind and critical thinking skills compared to male students. Furthermore, mathematical habits of mind significantly influenced critical thinking skills with a determination coefficient (R Square) of 0,595, indicating that 59,5% of critical thinking skills were effected by mathematical habits of mind, while the remaining 40,5% were influenced by other factors. This study concludes that developing mathematical habits of mind is crucial for improving students’ critical thinking skills. The implication is that teachers can integrate mathematical habits of mind as a key focus in mathematics learning strategies to optimize students’ critical thinking.
