Abstract

Cafe business players currently continue to develop their services according to community needs and continue to strive to align their business development, which of course cannot be separated from technological developments. This development is facilitated by the existence of online transportation applications where there are online food delivery services. The Chatime Buah Batu Square waiting area is provided for visitors who eat on site or take away and also for online motorbike taxis in the same area and the space is limited, thereby reducing the comfort of visitors and online motorbike taxis because they feel uncomfortable and disturbed at certain peak times and hours such as lunch time, afternoon or after work around 4-5 pm, and dinner time. The research method in this study is a qualitative method in the form of observation, interviews, questionnaires, and literature studies through journals and other literature sources. The design method used is the User Centered Design UCD method by carrying out the design process from the data obtained in the form of ideation, sketching, 3D design, prototyping, testing and finishing. Designing multifunctional partitions with waiting chairs can increase comfort for main visitors and online motorcycle taxis with visuals that match the cafe concept and can be placed in limited areas.

Abstract

Early childhood is susceptible to physical disorders due to incorrect sitting posture and lack of understanding of safety during earthquakes, especially in the city of Bandung which is located near the Lembang Fault. The study aimed to design a poster that was ergonomic and easy for early children to understand, focusing on correct sitting posture and safety measures during an earthquake. This research uses a mixed-methods approach with a descriptive analysis framework. The poster design process involves the needs analysis stage, design concept making, and trials in early childhood at the POS PAUD Melati Putih, Bandung City. Data was collected through direct observation, interviews with teachers and parents, and poster trials to children to evaluate their understanding and response to poster design. The results of the study resulted in two posters: one about ergonomic sitting posture and one about safety measures during an earthquake. The posters are designed using attractive illustrations and bright colors to make it easier for children to understand. Based on the results of observations and interviews with teachers, it can be identified that children are easier to understand and remember the information conveyed through the poster. Ergonomic posters help prevent physical complaints due to incorrect sitting posture, while safety posters increase children's awareness and preparedness for earthquakes.

Abstract

Existing educational products for families often focus narrowly on cognitive skills or behavioral training, overlooking emotional awareness, conflict resolution, and positive communication between parents and children. Previous studies in family education and parenting typically adopt top-down design approaches, where experts create tools without systematically involving end users in the creative process. This creates a gap between product design and the real-life needs, values, and contexts of families. This research addresses that gap by applying a participatory design approach—specifically co-design—collaborating directly with the Binar Bermain Belajar parenting community in Indonesia. Using the Double Diamond design model, the study engages families throughout all design stages: Discover, Define, Develop, and Deliver. The resulting Family Peacebuilding Kit integrates interactive tools, including Peace Action Cards and Emotion Reflection Cards, to support playful yet meaningful dialogue in households. By prioritizing users as co-creators rather than passive recipients, this study contributes to the field of social design and community-based learning by demonstrating how family-centered co-design processes can produce more relevant, engaging, and sustainable educational interventions—bridging the disconnect between academic design frameworks and real-world family dynamics.

Abstract

Creative approaches rooted in local resources play an important role in sustainable community development. This community engagement program aimed to empower youth members of Community Youth Development in Mekarwangi Village, West Bandung Regency, through training in sustainable design using pine forest waste. Mekarwangi is surrounded by pine forests managed by Perhutani, which generate unused organic waste such as dry branches, bark, flowers, and sawdust. The program consisted of an environmental awareness session and practical workshops on upcycling techniques. Participants were introduced to the concept of sustainable design and guided through the process of transforming forest waste into functional and decorative crafts, including fish-shaped ornaments made from pine flower petals and leaves. The training emphasized the creative reuse of natural materials, while also promoting the principles of circular economy and environmental stewardship. As a result, participants developed new skills in material selection, product design, and simple craft production, which enhanced their confidence and awareness of environmental issues. The final products have potential as eco-friendly souvenirs, strengthening local identity and opening economic opportunities. This initiative demonstrated the role of design as a tool for grassroots empowerment, creativity, and sustainable community development.

Abstract

This research analyzes the design aspects of Montessori-based educational tools, such as sandpaper letters, sandpaper numbers, and moving alphabet; employed in early childhood education to introduce letters and numbers. The study aims to evaluate functionality, safety, usability, aesthetic appeal, construction quality, developmental impact, and compliance with standards. Utilizing qualitative analysis and interviews with educators and parents, the data were analyzed using thematic analysis, where interview transcriptions were coded and grouped into categories to identify key themes. The interviews were semi-structured, allowing flexibility for respondents to share their perspectives and experiences in depth. The research examines these tools' effectiveness in facilitating learning among young children. Results reveal varying levels of functionality, safety, and usability across the tools. Sandpaper letters and numbers offer moderate functionality and safety, emphasizing tactile learning, while moving alphabet presents higher functionality and interactive engagement. Usability is limited in static tools but heightened in the interactive moving alphabet. Aesthetic appeal varies, with all media focusing on engaging visual and tactile elements. Compliance with standards remains partial. The research underscores the significance of diverse design approaches in early childhood education and recommends iterative enhancements in usability, safety, and compliance for optimized learning experiences. These findings have implications for educators, suggesting the integration of interactive elements to bolster early childhood education's efficacy.
