Abstract

Background: The Sleman Regency Government is committed to solving the stunting problem by implementing an integrated stunting prevention program by encouraging the participation of penta-helix. Estimating stunting prevalence accomplishment targets is crucial for measuring progress, guiding strategies, and ensuring stunting reduction success. This study aims to provide information regarding the factors that contribute to the prevalence of stunted toddlers and develop a predictive model for that prevalence. Methods: The study investigated the prevalence of stunting, wasting, and underweight in Sleman Regency using publicly accessible reports, secondary data, and reputable websites. Data was gathered through audits of stunting cases and factors from district-level program managers, and analysed through desk reviews. This research was conducted in Sleman Regency from December 2023 to February 2024. Results: The investigation found that stunting is linked to family smoking, inadequate toddler nutrition, inactive JKN, chronic energy deficiency throughout pregnancy, and low-weight, preterm births. Through rules, policies, and multisectoral multistakeholder collaboration, the Sleman Regency Government aims to reduce stunting. The interventions include maternal and child health, nutritional counselling, drinking water and sanitation, early childhood education, and pre-conception family life preparation. A model to estimate long-term stunting prevalence is needed to track trends, evaluate interventions, and support evidence-based decision-making. Stunting is vital to public health and economic benefit. Based on audit data, child nutrition trends, and prediction models, Sleman Regency should reduce stunting by 0.02% per year for local data and 0.5% per year for national data. The determinants of stunting in Sleman Regency are very diverse, including problems related to nutrition and non-nutrition. Conclusion: Stunting prevention is focused on efforts to overcome habits, improve the nutritional status of pregnant women and optimize better pregnancy outcomes. Based on the analysis, the stunting reduction target was determined based on national and local surveys of 0.5% and 0.02% per year, respectively.Keywords: Under five children; estimation model; prevalence; stunting

Abstract

Background: Hypertension is expected to reach 60% by 2025, largely in low- and middle-income countries, with 46% unaware and 42% undiagnosed and untreated Knowing the intricate association between salt and adult hypertension is vital for public health efforts. This scoping review explain how sodium affects blood pressure to prevent hypertension in adults and middle-aged people. Methods: Tricco and colleagues' approach was used to examine hypertension and salt in adults and middle-aged people. Assessment techniques, hypertension prevalence, and sodium-hypertension relationships were reviewed. A comprehensive PubMed and Google Scholar search of full-text academic journals spanning 2013-2023 found relevant studies. Two researchers extracted data separately and reached consensus for eligible trials. The search phrases were hypertension, salt, adult, middle-aged, and young adult. Results: There were 13 articles, found that nutritional intake evaluations, 24-hour urine collections, clinical and laboratory tests, physical measurements, blood pressure monitoring, and specific trials or interventions are assessment methods. Salt consumption and hypertension show different prevalence rates. Conclusion: These studies also describe the complex relationship between salt intake and hypertension in adults and middle-aged people. These studies effectively elucidate a complex correlation between salt consumption and hypertension among middle-aged and adult individuals, notwithstanding variations in measurement approaches and prevalence.

Abstract

Background: Anemia in children is a global health problem that can affect their cognitive and physical development. Various supplementation interventions have been used to treat anemia, including iron, folic acid, vitamins, and other minerals. Although some studies have shown improvements in anemia status, challenges in adherence to treatment and side effects remain barriers. Objective: This scoping review aims to map the available scientific evidence related to interventions and supplementation in children with anemia. This study identifies the types of interventions used, the target population, and the outcomes reported in the studies. Methods: A literature search was conducted through PubMed and Google Scholar with the keywords "anemia," "intervention," "supplement," and "children." Included studies were publications from 2015 to 2024 involving children who received supplementation interventions to see the impact of supplementation on anemia, cognition, and growth in children. Data from relevant studies were collected and analyzed based on study design, type of intervention, and reported outcomes. Results: From the analysis of 10 studies, various interventions were found, including iron supplementation, combinations of iron and other micronutrients (folic acid, vitamin A, vitamin C), and food-based interventions. All interventions showed increased hemoglobin levels and improved anemia status, but adherence to treatment remains a challenge, especially in daily regimens. Conclusion: Appropriate supplementation interventions effectively reduce the prevalence of anemia in children. However, the management of side effects and the improvement of adherence are aspects that need further attention for long-term success.

Abstract

Background: Early detection of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) through integrated guidance posts (Posbindu PTM) can be enhanced through mobile health applications. This study aimed to develop and evaluate the usability of Sembada m-Health, an Android-based application for conducting Posbindu PTM activities at Sleman Regional General Hospital. Methods: This Research and Development study employed the Four D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). The define phase involved stakeholder needs assessment through Focus Group Discussions. The design phase encompassed application development by IT experts, while the develop phase included multi-level testing by material experts (n=2), media experts (n=2), and end-users (n=30). Structured questionnaires assessed media and material aspects, while the Post-Study System Usability Questionnaire (PSSUQ) evaluated user experience. The disseminate phase included application socialization and qualitative evaluation. The study was conducted in Yogyakarta from October 2021 to April 2022, with feasibility thresholds set at ≥4.20 for media and material aspects and ≤2.82 for PSSUQ. Results: The application exceeded all feasibility thresholds, scoring 4.62 for media aspects, 4.23 for material aspects, and 1.71 on the PSSUQ. Stakeholders expressed high satisfaction with Sembada m-Health's system functionality, particularly its support for individual health monitoring, program implementation, NCD risk factor tracking, and personalized recommendations. Conclusions: Sembada m-Health demonstrated high usability and feasibility for supporting the Posbindu PTM program. Future research should focus on evaluating its long-term impact on NCD prevention and management outcomes.

Abstract

Background: Balanced nutrition education is an essential effort in preventing obesity, especially in adolescents who are vulnerable to nutritional problems due to unhealthy diets and a lack of knowledge. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Android-based e-pocket books in improving the understanding of balanced nutrition among adolescents in Yogyakarta. Methods: This study employed an experimental design with control groups, utilizing pre-tests and post-tests. Conducted from February to March 2023 in a high school in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, the research established a minimum sample size of 27 students per group through the Lemeshow formula and multistage sampling. Inclusion criteria required students to have Android phones, to consent to participate, to attend the study, and to complete data collection. The treatment group received education via e-pocket-book media, while the control group used e-leaflets. Knowledge was measured at three points: before the intervention, immediately after (post-test 1), and nine days later (post-test 2). Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests with SPSS software. Results: The knowledge score of the treatment group increased from 76.3 (pre-test) to 93.8 (post-test 1) and 91.3 (post-test 2). The control group increased from 73.8 (pre-test) to 82.5 (post-test 1) and 81.3 (post-test 2). The increase in knowledge was more significant in the treatment group, showing that e-pocket-books were more effective than e-leaflets. Conclusion: Android-based e-pocket-books improve adolescents' knowledge of balanced nutrition more than e-leaflets. Digital technology in nutrition education has great potential to be applied in schools. Further research is needed to evaluate the long-term impact on nutritional behavior.

Abstract

We would like to express our appreciation for the constructive input given to the article on the effectiveness of e-pocket books in improving balanced nutrition knowledge in adolescents to reduce obesity. This response aims to clarify the context of the research, answer the methodological issues raised, and affirm the empirical contribution of the study. The research is focused on improving nutrition knowledge, not on changes in nutritional status, and the term "obesity reduction" in the title describes the long-term direction of nutrition education interventions. A single 120-minute intervention was recognized to have limitations in maintaining knowledge retention, but significant results showed that e-pocket book media was effective in improving comprehension in a short period of time. The validity and reliability of the instrument have met the minimum standards for health education research in schools. In this study, the use of WhatsApp groups is not a disruptive variable, but part of a digital learning strategy to increase participant engagement. Although the research is still limited to urban schools with a small sample size, these findings are early evidence of the feasibility of e-pocket books as a digital educational medium that is lightweight, easily accessible, and in accordance with the digital habits of teenagers in general today.
