Abstract

The advancement of visual media as a promotional tool extends beyond commercial advertising into the realm of health-themed entertainment. A notable example is the promotional poster of the Korean drama Hospital Playlist, which portrays the medical profession in a warm and emotionally resonant manner. This study aims to explore the visual meanings conveyed in the poster by applying Roland Barthes semiotic theory, which interprets signs through two levels of meaning: denotation and connotation. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method with visual semiotic analysis, focusing on elements such as clothing colors, facial expressions, lighting, and the visual composition of characters. The findings reveal that these visual elements collectively construct a representation of medical professionals as approachable, collaborative, and empatheticcontrasting with the traditionally serious and rigid portrayal of the medical field. The diversity in clothing colors symbolizes the unique traits of each character, while their expressions and gestures communicate themes of warmth and familial bonds. This study highlights how entertainment media can function as an effective tool for visual communication, shaping positive public perceptions of the medical profession, particularly among younger audiences.

Abstract

This research study aims to quantify the extent of impact of Cyber Public Relations strategies to the level of trust towards QRIS by digital consumers. QRIS (Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard) is a digital payment system whose payment technology is based on QR-code that users can scan via the mobile phone. QRIS is gaining momentum in the fast-growing digital environment since it is convenient, effective, and aligned with the cashless-society project in Indonesia. Cyber Public Relations strategies are online communication programs undertaken by an institution or company to develop an organizational image, consumer involvement, as well as create faith in their services. The current research is a quantitative study of Cyber PR strategy and the extent of confidence with QRIS that uses the survey research design and the population of 100 respondents who use digital services. The results reveal that Cyber Public Relations actions have a powerful impact on the trust of QRIS users. As a result, it can be thus concluded that successful use of digital communications through Cyber PR practices is invaluable in making good impressions and in establishing consumer beliefs in QRIS as a secure and reliable mode of digital payment.

Abstract

The significant growth of the men's facial care market in Indonesia has triggered dynamic shifts that challenge the traditional hegemonic masculinity construction in the digital space. This study aims to deeply analyze how three prominent men's facial care brands (Kahf, MS Glow for Men, and Nivea Men) construct images of masculinity through their digital communication strategies, and to identify the patterns of meaning acceptance and negotiation by the audience. Employing a qualitative netnography approach, the core finding reveals that, instead of collapsing, hegemonic masculinity is locally negotiated, resulting in the conceptual model of Locally Negotiated Masculinity. This digital masculinity only accepts grooming practices through three strict justification mechanisms: Functional Justification (linking appearance as Professional Somatic Capital), Spiritual Justification (as Pious Consumption), and Non androgyny Boundary Negotiation which explicitly rejects the East Asian flower boy image. This model serves as a theoretical contribution to gender and digital communication studies in Southeast Asia, challenging Western metrosexual perspectives. The practical implication is that brands must integrate functional and spiritual narratives to legitimize the use of their products in this culturally sensitive market.

Abstract

Climate change has become a global issue that demands the active involvement of younger generations. In line with the 2050 Net Zero Emission target, the Central Leadership of Ikatan Pelajar Muhammadiyah (IPM), through its Environmental Affairs Division, organized the Aksi Pelajar untuk Iklim 2024 (Student Action for Climate 2024) as an effort to enhance student participation in climate change mitigation and adaptation. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the program, identify its challenges, and formulate strategic solutions to improve its effectiveness. The research employs a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews with central IPM leaders and participants, as well as observations during the kick-off event held in Kota Karang, Teluk Betung District, Bandar Lampung. The analysis refers to the Diffusion of Innovations Theory to understand how climate action ideas are disseminated among Muhammadiyah students. The findings indicate that the program effectively increases student awareness and participation and has the potential to shape agents of change in supporting the Net Zero Emission target. However, challenges remain in terms of coordination, funding, and program sustainability, which require further attention. Theoretically, this study strengthens the application of the Diffusion of Innovations Theory within the context of student-based environmental education. Practically, the findings provide recommendations for youth organizations and educational institutions in developing more inclusive, sustainable, and impactful climate action models.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the development communication patterns at Asshiddiqiyah Islamic Boarding School in West Jakarta, identify strategies for strengthening santri’s digital literacy and entrepreneurship, and formulate an applicable development communication model based on digital santri. The research employed a qualitative approach with a case study method through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and focus group discussions (FGDs), allowing for an in-depth exploration of communication practices and barriers to technological access within the pesantren environment. The findings reveal that development communication is participatory and dialogical, involving caregivers, administrators, and santri from program planning to implementation. Strategies for strengthening digital literacy were carried out through a project-based curriculum, entrepreneurship training, provision of shared facilities, and the creation of a competitive ecosystem. The novelty of this research lies in the design of a development communication model for digital santri in the form of an Integrated Communication Matrix, which integrates hierarchical structures, Islamic values, and the creative participation of santri. This model fills the gap in the literature on pesantren-based development communication in the digital era and offers practical solutions to enhance literacy, economic independence, and the competitiveness of santri, while also being replicable in other pesantren.
