This research was conducted at Baiturrahmah Dental Hospital which was held in November–December 2021. The sampling technique in this study was consecutive sampling. The number of sampels in this study was 80 sampels. Research through the google form given by researchers to research respondents. Result:This study indicated that most of the respondents have good knowledge of hand washing (91.2%), good hand washing attitudes (99.0%), and good hand washing behavior (100.0%). The correlation analysis test was carried out using the Pearson correlation test for parametric analysis and the Spearman correlation test for non-parametric analysis. There was a significant relationship between knowledge of hand washing behavior (p<0.05) and attitudes towards hand washing behavior (p<0.05). Conclusion: There was a significant relationship between knowledge of handwashing behavior in professional students at Baiturrahmah Dental Hospital and there is a significant relationship between attitudes towards handwashing behavior in professional students at Baiturrahmah Dental Hospital.

Abstract

Dental caries is a health disorder with a high prevalence in all age groups, including infants and children, known as early childhood caries (ECC). One of the most common causes of ECC is the consumption of foods and beverages with high glucose content, including formula milk. This article analyses the rela-tionship between formula milk feeding patterns and the risk of ECC using the ECC Dentch application, which is designed to detect and provide informa-tion related to children's dental health. An analytical survey design was used with a cross-sectional approach on 45 children at Kartika 1-55 Kindergarten in Padang City. Data were obtained through questionnaires and clinical examinations. Although 95.6% of children were at risk of ECC, the chi-square test found no significant relationship between formula feeding patterns and the incidence of ECC (p=0.938). Other factors, such as oral hygiene and consumption of sugary foods, had a more dominant influence on the risk of ECC. The ECC Dentch application was found to have high sensitivity (100%) in detecting cases of ECC, although its specificity was low (0%). It was concluded that there was no significant relationship between formula feeding patterns and the risk of ECC.

Abstract

Fixed orthodontic appliances are commonly used in the treatment of malocclusion; however, their complex components make it difficult for users to maintain oral hygiene. Cleaning can be performed mechanically and chemically, including using mouthwash. Natural ingredients, such as mango leaves (Mangifera indica L.), have potential as alternative mouthwash agents. This study aimed to determine the difference in oral hygiene status between mango leaf extract mouthwash and povidone-iodine mouthwash among users of fixed orthodontic appliances. This study used a pre-test and post-test control group design. The population consisted of 51 users of fixed orthodontic appliances, with 34 participants recruited using total sampling. The participants were divided into two groups: 17 who used mango leaf extract mouthwash and 17 who used povidone-iodine. Data were then analyzed using the Mann–Whitney test. The mean oral hygiene status in the mango leaf extract group decreased from 0.71 before rinsing to 0.09 after rinsing, with a mean difference of 0.62. In the povidone iodine group, the mean decreased from 0.72 to 0.07, with a mean difference of 0.65. In conclusion, there was no significant difference in oral hygiene status between mango leaf extract mouthwash and povidone-iodine mouthwash among users of fixed orthodontic appliances.
