Abstract

Introduction: Indonesia is a country rich in ethnic diversity. Each tribe has characteristics that differ from other tribes. One of these differences lies in height, which is composed of long bones. The growth of long bones is the result of the ossification of cartilage located at the distal end. One of the long bones found in the craniofacial area is the mandible. The lateral cephalometric X-ray photos with Steiner analysis reveal the mandible's significant role in determining the type of skeletal malocclusion. Objective: This study aims to analyze the relationship between height and skeletal malocclusion type using Steiner analysis in the Banjar ethnic group. Methods: This research is a correlational analytical study with a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 62 Banjar students aged 15–18 years, selected using the purposive sampling technique. Height was measured using a microtoise and converted into a Height-for-Age Z-score (HAZ) based on WHO standards. Skeletal relationships were determined through Steiner analysis on lateral cephalometry using the SNA, SNB, and ANB angular parameters. Statistical analysis was performed using the chi-square test and Spearman's correlation test with a significance level of α=0.05. Results: Most samples had below-normal height, above-normal SNA, normal SNB, and above-normal ANB. The results of the Spearman's correlation analysis showed a significance value of 0.446. Conclusion: Most subjects had heights categorized as below normal based on the WHO Height-for-Age Z-score (HAZ), and the most common skeletal pattern found was Class II skeletal malocclusion with a tendency toward maxillary protrusion and mandibular position still within normal limits according to the SNA and SNB parameters. The results of the Spearman correlation test showed a significance value of 0.446 (p > 0.05), so it can be concluded that there is no statistically significant relationship between height and the type of skeletal malocclusion in Banjar adolescents aged 15–18 years. Height cannot be used as an indicator to predict the type of skeletal malocclusion in the study population. Keywords: Steiner analysis, lateral cephalometry, Banjar tribe, body height, skeletal malocclusion type.

Abstract

Background: Knowledge is the basis for the formation of behavior. Limited access to information for inmates causes their knowledge of dental and oral health to decrease. The 2022 Annual Report of the Directorate General of Corrections recorded that 6,312 people were diagnosed with dental disease and were included in one of the five diseases that are often experienced by prisoners. Dental and oral diseases have a high ranking suffered by inmates, which is one of the indicators that the dental and oral hygiene of prisoners is not maintained. Objective: This study aims to know the relationship between oral health maintenance knowledge and oral hygiene in class IIA Banjarmasin prison inmates. Method: This study uses an observational analytical method with a cross sectional research design. The measurement of knowledge variables used a dental and oral health maintenance knowledge questionnaire, while the measurement of dental and oral hygiene used the Oral Hygiene Index Simplified (OHI-S). Result: The results of the somers'D test produced data with a significance value of 0.001 (ρ<0.05). The correlation coefficient value in the study was obtained at -0.463, indicating the relationship between the two moderate and negative variables, so that it has a reciprocal relationship. Conclusion: There is a relationship between oral health maintenance knowledge and oral hygiene among inmates (WBP) in class IIA Prison Banjarmasin  Keyword: knowledge, oral hygiene, inmates.

Abstract

Background: Oral health problems are still one of the things that cannot be overcome in Indonesia, especially in children. This is due to behavioral factors ignoring oral hygiene based on lack of knowledge. This knowledge can be improved by conducting health promotion using attractive and interactive media such as smart box media. The advantages of this media are easy to use and children can learn while playing which is then able to develop children's cognitive abilities optimally. Purpose: To analyze the effect of smart box media on oral health knowledge in students aged 9-11 years. Methods: Quasi-experimental research with non-equivalent control group design with purposive sampling technique. The population of this study were students aged 9-11 years at SDN Kelayan Barat 3 Banjarmasin with a sample of 48 respondents. The instrument used was a questionnaire with 12 questions. The analysis used was Wilcoxon and Mann whitney test. Results: The Wilcoxon test showed that a significant increase in knowledge occurred after the intervention using smart box media (p<0.001). Conclusion: Smart box media is effectively used in oral health promotion to improve children's oral health knowledge in students aged 9–11 years. Keywords: Smart box; dental health education; oral health knowledge.

Abstract

Background: The weakness of Ca(OH)2 is its low compressive strength and mechanical properties which can affect the stability of the material to the liquid in the tooth root canal so that it can dissolve the root canal medicament material. Due to the various weaknesses of Ca(OH)2, the researchers are interested in combining Ca(OH)2 with natural ingredients extracted from Musa acuminata (Mauli Banana) stem. Musa acuminata stem extract  (MaSE) contains bioactive compounds such as tannins, saponins, alkaloids, flavonoids and lycopene which have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and anti-viral properties. One of the requirements for pulp capping material is to have sufficient compressive strength, therefore, it is necessary to conduct research to test the value of the compressive strength of the combination of Ca(OH)2 with Musa acuminata stem extract. Purpose: To analyze the compressive strength of the pulp capping material from the combination of calcium hydroxide and Musa acuminata stem extract, with a ratio of 1:1; 1:1.5 ; and 1.5:1. Method: This research is a pure experimental study with a posttest-only design with a control group design, consisting of 4 treatment groups, including: group 1 the combination of Ca(OH)2 with Musa acuminata stem extract at 1:1, group 2 1:1.5, group 3 1.5:1, and group 4 as a positive control. Results: One Way Anova test (p<0.05) which means there is a significant difference. Data analysis was continued with the LSD Post Hoc test (p<0.05) which showed that there were significant differences between groups, between each treatment group. Conclusion: The combination of Ca(OH)2 with 50% MaSE and PG ratio of 1.5 : 1 : 0.375, has the highest compressive strength (1.40 MPa), so it can be concluded that the more Musa acuminata stem extract in the combination, the lower the compressive strength. Keywords : Calcium hydroxide, Compressive strength, Musa acuminata stem extract

Abstract

ABSTRACTBackground: Papuyu fish is widely consumed by Kalimantan people. Papuyu fish scales chitosan has antibacterial potential because it contains amino polysaccharides and enzyme lysozyme which inhibits the growth of root canal bacteria, specifically Enterococcus faecalis. Purpose: The purpose of this experimental is to analyze the antibacterial activity of papuyu fish (Anabas testudineus) scales chitosan against Enterococcus faecalis. Methods: This is a true experimental study with post-test only with a control group design using 15 samples of papuyu fish (Anabas testudineus) scales chitosan grouped into 5 treatment groups and 3 samples repetitions. The treatment groups consisted of papuyu fish (Anabas testudineus) scales chitosan concentrations of 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%, and distilled water (negative control). Absorbance calculation using a UV-Vis Spectrophotometer 722 for minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and Enterococcus faecalis colonies are visualized with a colony counter for minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC). Results: The MIC value of papuyu fish (Anabas testudineus) scales chitosan were obtained at 25% concentration and the MBC value were obtained at 100% concentration. The results of One-Way ANOVA test for MIC and Kruskal Wallis for MBC of papuyu fish scales chitosan concentrations of 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% obtained significant results of p<0,05 and showed a significant difference between treatments. Conclusion: These are differences in the effectiveness of MIC and MBC papuyu fish (Anabas testudineus) scales chitosan concentrations of 25%, 50%, 75%, 100% and distilled water. Papuyu fish scales chitosan 100% concentration is the most effective concentration as an antibacterial against the growth of Enterococcus faecalis.

Abstract

Background: Telemedicine is promoted as a solution to improve access to healthcare in areas with geographical barriers. In South Kalimantan, wetland areas face limited physical access due to scattered settlements, water-based transportation, and seasonal flooding, as well as limited digital infrastructure. Objective: This study aims to explore the conditions of access to health services, digital readiness, digital literacy, as well as people's initial experiences and perceptions of telemedicine in the wetlands of South Kalimantan. Methods: A descriptive–exploratory preliminary survey was conducted on 50 purposively selected adult respondents. Data were collected through an interview-based structured questionnaire and analyzed descriptively without hypothesis testing. Results: The majority of respondents face significant physical barriers to access with long travel times and reliance on water transportation. Smartphone ownership is relatively high, but signal quality, electrical stability, and digital literacy are still low. The use of telemedicine is still limited and dominated by chat services. The perception of benefits is quite positive, but technical barriers and face-to-face service preferences remain strong. Conclusion: Telemedicine has high potential in wetland areas, but implementation readiness is still low. A phased approach is needed that emphasizes low-bandwidth modalities, strengthening digital literacy, and improving systemic infrastructure.
