Abstract

Tomato sorting is an important post-harvest handling process, but manual sorting may produce inconsistent classification and depends on operator judgment. This study designs and implements an Internet of Things (IoT)-based prototype for automated tomato sorting according to ripeness and size using an ESP32 microcontroller. The system integrates a TCS34725 color sensor for ripeness classification, an infrared proximity sensor for object detection, servo motors for sorting, a DC motor-driven roller grader for size separation, and the Blynk platform for remote monitoring and conveyor-speed control. The prototype was developed using a Research and Development approach and evaluated through functional testing of its main subsystems. The proximity sensor achieved a 90% detection success rate, the TCS34725 achieved 70% ripeness classification accuracy, the servo sorter and stopper achieved 100% synchronization in the tested conditions, and Blynk monitoring achieved an 80% success rate with a response latency below 200 ms under stable Wi-Fi conditions. The arithmetic mean of the four subsystem rates was 85%, but this value represents a descriptive summary rather than the end-to-end accuracy of the complete sorting system. The results demonstrate the functional feasibility of the prototype, while improvements in sorting efficiency and post-harvest loss reduction were not experimentally verified.

Abstract

The fermentation process of dadih, a traditional fermented buffalo milk product from Minangkabau, is highly influenced by environmental conditions, particularly temperature and humidity. Instability in these parameters may lead to inconsistent product quality, fermentation failure, and overall quality degradation, especially in micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). This study aims to design and implement an Internet of Things (IoT)-based system for monitoring and controlling temperature and humidity in the dadih fermentation process. The proposed system utilizes an ESP32 microcontroller as the main control unit, a DHT22 sensor for measuring temperature and humidity, and a pH-4502C sensor to determine the level of fermentation maturity. Sensor data are transmitted in real time to the Firebase Realtime Database via an internet connection and visualized through a web dashboard to enable remote monitoring. The system is also equipped with actuators, including a PTC heater, Peltier TEC1 module, mist maker, intake fan, exhaust fan, and buzzer, which function as an automatic control mechanism to maintain optimal fermentation conditions. Experimental results indicate that the system is capable of performing real-time monitoring and control with an average delay of 113.33 ms, consisting of 100 ms for temperature, 110 ms for humidity, and 130 ms for pH measurements. Furthermore, the system is able to store historical fermentation data and provide indicators of fermentation maturity based on pH values. The implementation of this system enhances the stability of the fermentation process, reduces environmental fluctuations, and improves operational efficiency. Therefore, the proposed system has the potential to assist MSMEs in maintaining consistent dadih product quality, increasing productivity, and reducing reliance on manual monitoring

Abstract

An Intrusion Detection System (IDS) is a crucial tool in computer network security for detecting adversarial attacks. Deep Learning is a trending method in both research and industry, and it can recognise subtle differences in data. However, the effectiveness of an IDS depends on the accuracy and efficiency of the detection model employed. Additionally, deep learning models require careful tuning of hyperparameters to achieve optimal detection performance. This study explores the impact of hyperparameter tuning on the performance of a Deep Belief Network (DBN) in detecting network attacks. Two experimental scenarios were conducted: DBN without hyperparameter tuning and DBN with hyperparameter tuning. The results indicate that the DBN with hyperparameter tuning achieved an accuracy of 0.999, outperforming the DBN without hyperparameter tuning (0.998 accuracy). These findings suggest that hyperparameter optimisation significantly enhances the detection capability of the model, improving both the accuracy and the resilience of the IDS against attacks.
