Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to describe the stereotypical representation of women’s bodies and voices in the domestic and public spheres in the novel Kim Ji-Yeong, Born 1982 by Cho Nam-Joo using Helene Cixous’s écriture féminine theory, its relevance to contemporary women’s representation, and its implications for Indonesian language learning in schools. This is a qualitative research with descriptive analysis method. The data source is the novel Kim Ji-Yeong, Born 1982. The data consist of excerpts from stories, dialogues, scenes, and descriptions containing stereotypical representations of women’s bodies and voices. Data collection techniques use reading and note-taking techniques. Data were analyzed by identifying, classifying, analyzing, interpreting, and concluding. The research findings show that stereotypical representations are divided into three aspects of écriture féminine: language and deconstruction (31 data) displaying the silencing of women’s voices, body and sexuality (12 data) showing the reduction of women’s bodies as reproductive tools and objects of violence, and motherhood (5 data) depicting motherhood as chains that bind women. Cho Nam-Joo practices écriture féminine by honestly writing about women’s bodily experiences and voices as a form of resistance against patriarchal language domination. The relevance to contemporary conditions includes the practice of son preference, domestic patriarchy and double burden, and reproductive coercion that still occur in Indonesia. The novel can be used as teaching material for Grade XII Phase F of the Merdeka Curriculum to develop critical literacy and achieve the Pancasila Student Profile dimensions of critical reasoning and global diversity, as well as create transformative learning.

Abstract

The object of this research is the names of hamlets in Wonosari District, Boalemo Regency, which are examined through a mythological and anthropolinguistic approach. This research aims to (1) describe the origins of the hamlet names; (2) describe the meaning of the hamlet names; and (3) describe the mythological elements reflected in the hamlet names. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques in the form of interviews, observation, note-taking, and recording. Data was obtained from community leaders, village elders, village heads, hamlet heads, and residents who knew the history and traditional stories related to the naming of hamlets. The results of the study show that of the 13 existing hamlets, only 5 have myths or origin stories that are still remembered by the community, namely Iloponu Hamlet, Olibuhu Hamlet, Oliyanuhe Hamlet, Botulontio Hamlet, and Ulintapo Hamlet. The origins of the hamlet names are generally related to natural elements, past events, and community beliefs, such as the existence of springs, certain trees, traditional fire-making techniques, and places considered sacred. Mythological analysis using the concept of Levi-Strauss’s mythome reveals that these natural elements become units of meaning that form the structure of the story and reflect the way of life of the Pangeya community, meanwhile, anthropolinguistic analysis shows that the naming of hamlets not only functions as a geographical identity, but also as a symbolic form that records cultural values, collective memory and the harmonious relationship between humans and nature. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the names of the hamlets in Pangeya Village contain profound cultural meaning, particularly related to local wisdom passed down through oral tradition. This research is expected to contribute to the development of anthropolinguistic studies, local mythology, and efforts to preserve regional culture in Gorontalo.

Abstract

This study analyzes the management of sexual health information among adolescents in Ayula Selatan Village, Gorontalo, amidst the challenges of social taboos, conservative values, and vulnerability to myths. The Elaboration Likelihood Model (ELM) was used in this study. The purpose of this study is to identify the message processing pathways, i.e. central or peripheral pathways, used by adolescents. This study adopted a mixed methods method with an explanatory sequential design to complete the analysis in this study. Quantitative data from 76 respondents measured adolescents' understanding of sexual health myths and facts, combined with in-depth interview data from selected respondents. The results showed an imbalance in adolescents' knowledge about myths and facts related to sexual health. In addition, information about sexual health tends to be obtained from digital media without assistance from parents or teachers. A sense of taboo and embarrassment to ask questions is one of the reasons why adolescents discuss with peers rather than adults. Another interesting finding shows that adolescents also discuss with artificial intelligence to validate their knowledge about sexual health. ELM analysis found that the majority of adolescents used peripheral pathways in this study. They accepted messages based on non-message cues such as influencer popularity, language style and aesthetic visualization. The adolescents disregarded the quality of arguments. The dominance of this pathway has consequences in the form of temporary changes in attitudes and the risk of spreading misinformation. This study suggests designing adaptive educational programs and strengthening the role of family and school as credible sources.
