Abstract

Abstract  This research aims to investigate the students’ perception on the implementation of English week program and how was the program applied. The participants were 34 students, the researchers used stratified technique sampling to take four students of each class. The researcher used questionnaire to collect data from participants. The questionnaire consists of 20 questionnaire items. The students have positive perception on the implementation of English week program. it could be seen from the result of questionnaire item number 12 “the students should follow program is applied on English week” where there were 24 students (70%) agreed about the program. Meanwhile,10 students (30%) disagreed about the program.Keywords: English Week, Perception, Speaking

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan persentase penggunaan materi ajar serta mengevaluasi kesesuaian materi yang diberikan pada mahasiswa semester 0 Program Studi Divisi Kamar di Politeknik Pariwisata Palembang. Bahan ajar mengacu pada pembelajaran ESP (English for Specific Purposes) yang meliputi aspek kemampuan mahasiswa dalam membaca, mendengarkan, menulis dan berbicara. 20 orang responden yang merupakan pelaku lapangan hotel yang terdiri dari para resepsionis dan manajer hotel membantu mengevaluasi studi ini hingga menghasilkan data sebagai berikut: bahan ajar yang telah disusun oleh para pengajar Bahasa Inggris di Program Studi Divisi Kamar telah memiliki kesesuaian terhadap kebutuhan kerja dan hampir semua materi ajar dinyatakan sangat penting dalam prosedur kerja di lapangan walaupun masih ada beberapa materi yang dianggap kurang penting dan tidak sesuai, hal tersebut dapat menjadi refleksi dan motivasi untuk terus meningkatkan kualitas bahan ajar untuk mahasiswa Divisi Kamar.

Abstract

Housewives who have a lot of activities in the household produce a lot of domestic (household) waste every day, both in the form of organic and inorganic waste. The role of housewives in managing household waste, especially organic waste, will be very beneficial for the environment. Therefore, this service activity is aimed at housewives in utilizing organic waste into liquid fertilizer that has economic value to help the hobbies or hobbies of housewives to maintain plants at home so that they become fertile without incurring additional costs and provide information on how to make healthy drink made from spices in the kitchen, which is useful for maintaining body stamina during this pandemic by utilizing free time at home. The purpose of this study was to find out how to process organic waste into liquid fertilizer, how to make healthy drinks from areca nut and garlic, and how to make healthy drinks from ginger and brown sugar. From this community service activity, it can be concluded that: (1) The knowledge and understanding of the community regarding the procedures for processing household waste and spices has increased. (2) Public awareness and desire to participate in creating a healthy environment and maintaining physical fitness during this pandemic has increased. Given the magnitude of the benefits of this community service activity, it is further necessary to: (1) Conduct similar socialization and outreach to communities in other sub-districts, with the same material. (2) There is a continuity of the program after this service activity so that the community really understands and realizes the importance of processing household waste and spices, in an effort to create a healthy environment and improve health in the community.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out whether teaching listening using audiobook in listening significant or not. The method used in this research was true experimental method. The population of this research was all the tenth grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Palembang. The total number of population was 90 students. The samples took out were 60 students from 90 students by using non-probability sampling method. They divided into the experimental and control group. The data were collected by using written test, those were pretest and posttest. The result of the test was analyzed by independent sample t-test. The analyses provide that teaching listening using audiobook on listening help students to improve their listening skill. The mean in posttest of experimental group was 77.17, it was higher than the mean posttest of the control group which was 64.47. The result of T-Test obtained significance (sig. 2 tailed) was 0.001, which less or lower than 0.05. Since the sig. 2 tailed was less than 0.05, so the null hypothesis Ho was rejected and the alternative hypothesis Ha was accepted. It means that there was significant difference on students’ listening taught using audiobook than those who are not

Abstract

Abstract. The study aims to investigate the problems: “Whether or not there is any significant effect of using Repeated Reading Method to the eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Tanah Abang.” Therefore, the objective of the research was to find out whether or not there is any significant effect of using repeated reading method on the students’ reading narrative text to the eighth-grade students’ of SMP Negeri 1 Tanah Abang Pali. The sample of this research was 62 students, divided in to two classes: experimental class and control class. The sample of this research was purposive sampling. The data obtained were analyzed by using independents sample t-test in SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Science) The result of t-obtained 4.752 was at the significant level p<0.05 for two tailed and degree of freedom (df) was 60, t-table was 2,000. Keywords: Repeated Reading Method , Teaching , Narrative , Reading Comprehension.

Abstract

Reading is crucial to the process of learning a language. Students can use digital technology to support reading activities in today's modern culture. As a result of students' need for information in the digital age, digital text is now virtually everywhere. This study investigated EFL students reading preferences (digital or printed). The participants of this study were 102 EFL students from private universities in South Sumatera. The data was collected through 20 items of questionnaire distributed through google form. Based on the result of the study, it could be concluded that first, most participants enjoy reading. They read for a variety of purposes, including to get the knowledge, to get information, to get the entertainment, and for other purposes. The second, the participants prefer reading digital texts. The practicality of the digital texts is the primary motivating factor why they chose it. They acknowledged that they do not need to hold thick texts or books while reading, they only need to bring their devices. Furthermore, they said one device can store and read multiple texts. They added that reading materials on digital devices are considerably more intriguing and enjoyable than those on printed. Third, the researchers noted that all readers—whether they preferred reading printed or digital texts—felt at comfortable with the reading equipment they had selected. . Finally, it is revealed from the data that most participants are more inspired to read when they use digital reading texts.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to use a writing diary strategy to improve the writing skill of class IX students of SMP Muhammadiyah 4 Palembang. The method used in this research is the descriptive analysis method. The population of this study was all students of class IX at SMP Muhammadiyah 4 Palembang. The total population is 176 students, and the samples taken are 29 students from 176 students using the purposive sampling method. The use of data was carried out using a written test pre-test and post-test, and the results of the analysis showed that writing diaries improved students' writing skills. The average student score increased after applying diary writing, before applying diary writing the student's pre-test score could be said to be 68.55 where the average value was at intervals of 65.79 which means moderate. However, after the post-test was carried out using the instrument test, there were no students in the very low category with an average score of 84.4 where the average value was in the interval 80-89 which means high. This shows that the level of student's ability after applying the habit of writing books is in the high category.

Abstract

This study aimed at finding out whether or not one stays rest stray technique was effective to teach recount text reading comprehension achievements to the Eighth Grade Students of SMP Muhammadiyah 6 Palembang. This study used pre-experimental method. The samples of this study were 38 persons of the eighth-grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 6 Palembang. The data was obtained from pretest and posttest and calculated by using t-test. The result showed t-obtained was 4.608, higher than the critical value of t-table was 1.689 at the significant level of p<0.05 for two tailed and degree of freedom (df) is 35 which means that Ho (Null Hypothesis) was rejected and Ha (Alternative Hypothesis) was accepted. In conclusion, one stays rest stray technique was effective to teach recount text reading comprehension achievements to the Eighth Grade Students of SMP Muhammadiyah 6 Palembang

Abstract

Filsafat sebagai induk dari segala macam cabang ilmu pengetahuan sebagai upaya menjawab persoalan paling fundamental (ontologi, epistemologi dan aksiologi) dalam ilmu pengetahuan. Perkembangan ilmu filsafat dalam bahasa memberikan pengaruh yang signifikan kepada berbagai bidang ilmu lainnya, termasuk perkembangan teknologi Pendidikan dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris (linguistik). Pendidikan bahasa Inggris hendaknya memperhatikan metode dan tujuan pengajarannya agar tujuan dan fungsi bahasa Inggris dapat dicapai tanpa mengesampingkan nilai budaya yang ada di Indonesia. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mendeskripsikan paradigma filsafat bahasa dan perkembangan teknologi modern dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris (linguistik). Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode studi pustaka. Adapun hasil dari penelitian ini berdasarkan hasil analisis beberapa jurnal dan bahan pustaka yang telah dikumpulkan baik berdasarkan pandangan ontologi, epistemologi, dan aksiologi. Dengan demikian dapat kita lihat bahwa perkembangan filsafat Bahasa dan teknologi modern berkembang sangat positif di dalam dunia pendidikan baik secara praktik maupun teori.

Abstract

This systematic review aims to identify the key motivational factors that influence the development of speaking skills among Indonesian English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners. Using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, five studies were selected for in-depth analysis. The methodology involved the identification, screening, and thematic analysis of research focusing on motivational factors affecting speaking proficiency. The results indicate that both internal factors—such as self-confidence, personal satisfaction, and integrative motivation—and external factors—including teacher support, classroom atmosphere, task structure, and instructional media—play crucial roles in enhancing learners’ motivation to participate in speaking activities. The novelty of this study lies in its focus on the Indonesian EFL context, offering a comprehensive overview of how these motivational factors intersect in this specific educational setting. The study contributes to the field by providing practical recommendations for educators, suggesting that a balanced focus on internal drives and supportive external environments is essential for improving speaking proficiency among Indonesian EFL learners. This review thus highlights the importance of addressing both personal and environmental factors to foster greater participation and confidence in speaking activities.
