Abstract

Inclusive growth results in equal access to the benefits of growth and, by that, reduces disparities. Public spending plays an important role in supporting economic growth and people's welfare. On the other hand, financial inclusion has the ability to expand opportunities to participate in growth. Using data on government spending and financial inclusion in 34 provinces in Indonesia in 2015-2019, this study aims to examine the link between the two towards inclusive growth. As a result, spending on education and financial inclusion, as well as investment and trade openness, can promote inclusive growth. Expanding access to education as a result of public investment in education will boost labor capacity and productivity. Meanwhile, access to more affordable credit will be realized through an inclusive financial system. Conversely, due to health development gaps, health spending has a negative impact on inclusive growth. The spatial error model with queen contiguity spatial weight matrix shows a significant spatial effect on the error term or residual. The implication is that policies for expanding education, health, and digital access as well as increasing investment and financial literacy need to be carried out to ensure people's affordability to economic opportunities by considering regional aspects.

Abstract

Measuring poverty only from a monetary perspective is lacking. Given the variety of human needs, poverty needs to be measured multidimensionally. Hence, this study analyzes multidimensional poverty dynamics and identifies its determinants from the demographic and institutional factors. Using the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) and data from the two survey periods of the Indonesia Family Life Survey (IFLS), it is known that multidimensional poverty tends to be transient rather than chronic. The highest education level of the head of the household, the level of dependency, the island of residence, the village political system, and the village government's corruption affect both chronic and transient poverty categories. The marital status of household heads, household size, and customary norms only affected the chronic poor category

Abstract

This research seeks to comprehend the impact of information technology (IT) utilization on the performance of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Malang. The study investigates the perceptions of SMEs stakeholders through a survey involving 90 SMEs respondents in Malang. Employing a questionnaire and utilizing the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) method for data analysis, the research reveals positive and significant outcomes for latent variables such as performance expectations, business expectations, social influence, hedonic motivation, and habits concerning SMEs behavior in adopting information technology, based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT 2). However, the latent variable of price value does not exert a significant influence on SMEs behavioral interest in adopting information technology. Additionally, SMEs behavioral interest positively and significantly influences their usage behavior in utilizing information technology, and the subsequent usage behavior has a positive and significant effect on SME performance.

Abstract

The concept of sustainability arose in response to climate change during industrialization in the 18th century and has gained importance amid the Covid pandemic as nations aim for resilience. Indonesia, like other countries, needs a strong financial policy that integrates sustainability criteria. Banks, as trusted intermediaries, play a vital role in promoting ethical business practices and can contribute through initiatives like the SRI KEHATI index, which identifies environmentally friendly issuers based on ESG standards.  The study analyzes the relationship between ESG-adjusted dividends and financial performance of four major Indonesian banks (KBMI) from 2011 to 2021, using panel data analysis. The findings indicate a negative relationship between adjusted dividends and return on assets (ROA), with similar patterns observed for ESG, environmental, and governance factors. However, the negative correlation is less prominent for the social factor. Conversely, adjusted dividends show a positive connection with ESG scores and the environmental, social, and governance factors independently.

Abstract

Resources typically support economic growth, but not all regions possess the same potential resources. The first objective of this study is to test and analyze the potential of leading sectors and shifting leading sectors in South Sulawesi Province. Second, to determine which expenditure-side components—household consumption, government consumption, investment, exports, and imports—influence South Sulawesi Province's economic growth. This study relies on secondary data that includes information on the Gross Regional Domestic Product of South Sulawesi Province and the same information for the entire nation from 2002 to 2021. This study makes use of the Location Quotient, Shift-Share, and Growth Ratio as analytical tools; while data panel regression is used to look at the factors that affect GRDP. Agriculture, construction, trade, and the services sector are the most important industries in South Sulawesi Province, according to the analysis's findings. While only partially the investment and household consumption variable has a significant impact on South Sulawesi's economic growth, simultaneously household consumption, government consumption, investment, exports, and imports all have a significant impact on economic growth.

Abstract

The condition of the Covid-19 pandemic had an impact on the banking sector which caused a decline in bank performance in 2020 as indicated by a decrease in ROA of 35.63%, an increase in BOPO of 9.06%, and an increase in NPL of 20.95% (yoy). This study aims to estimate banking cost efficiency during economic conditions during the Covid-19 pandemic for the period 2020 – 2022. The sample of this study was 40 bank companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange during the study period. The research method used is stochastic frontier analysis (SFA) to estimate the cost efficiency of a bank and principal component regression to estimate the determinant of a bank’s cost efficiency. It was found that the average cost efficiency of banks in Indonesia has increased every year by 0.720925 in 2020, 0.773875 in 2021 and 0.818744 in 2022 respectively. The factors that affects cost efficiency is NPL and LDR are significantly negative effect on cost efficiency, while ROA was significanly positive effect on cost efficiency. Based on the research results, it is hoped that banks can make adjustments to credit allowance reserves, streamline the number of human resources in collecting and recovery units related to credit management, and maximize the bank’s intermediation function.
