Abstract

Stunting remains a major health problem in Indonesia. Utilizing local foods can be an effective prevention strategy, especially if supported by good maternal knowledge and attitudes. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between maternal knowledge and attitudes regarding the use of local foods and stunting prevention. This study used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. A sample of 45 mothers with toddlers was selected purposively. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The analysis showed a significant relationship between maternal knowledge and stunting prevention (p = 0.001), as well as a significant relationship between maternal attitudes and stunting prevention (p = 0.003). Mothers with good knowledge and positive attitudes were more likely to take stunting prevention measures. In conclusion, maternal knowledge and attitudes regarding the use of local foods are significantly related to stunting prevention measures. Therefore, ongoing education is needed to increase knowledge and foster positive attitudes in mothers in an effort to reduce stunting rates in the community.

Abstract

Nutritional issues in toddlers, particularly stunting, are crucial and align with the fourth point of Asta Cita (Association of Indonesians), namely improving the quality of life of the Indonesian people. This condition not only impacts children's height but also their cognitive development, productivity, and the long-term quality of human resources. To address this, innovation is needed to meet the nutritional needs of toddlers through the use of readily available and nutritious local foods. One potential local food that can be utilized is purple sweet potatoes. Purple sweet potatoes contain natural antioxidants (anthocyanins), vitamins A, C, and E, and dietary fiber, which are good for supporting growth and strengthening children's immune systems. This study aims to provide alternative local food ingredients that are highly nutritious and acceptable, readily available, and easy to process by the wider community. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest design on mothers of toddlers. The study variables were knowledge and skills, which were measured twice: before and after the purple sweet potato processing practice. The results showed a significant difference. (2-tailed) at knowledge 0.000 < 0.05 and skills significance value 0.000 < 0.05 then there is a significant difference between knowledge and skills before and after the purple sweet potato processing practice. The conclusion is that the purple sweet potato processing practice is effective in increasing the knowledge and skills of mothers of toddlers. The implication is that similar educational or training programs can be implemented more widely in the community to improve mothers' ability to provide nutritious food for their toddlers

Abstract

Insomnia is defined as a condition of difficulty falling asleep. Insomnia has been considered a huge health problem in the elderly. This research aims to see how age and anxiety factors influence insomnia in the elderly. Results: The results of the study show that from 51 elderly respondents, it was found that age was one of the factors that influenced the incidence of insomnia in the elderly. All data was analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis with SPSS software. The analysis results show a significant relationship by comparing the value (p-value = 0.34) with (α = 0.05). Meanwhile, the relationship between anxiety and the incidence of insomnia can be seen from the value (p-value = 0.81) with (α = 0.05) which indicates that there is no relationship between these two factors. Conclusion: These findings provide the idea that it is necessary to pay attention to the elderly in dealing with insomnia problems that occur to consider age as the factor that most influences insomnia. The elderly are considered a more vulnerable group, so efforts to prevent and treat insomnia are needed.

Abstract

Babies and toddlers in Indonesia often experience stunting, with around 21.6% of them affected by this condition. In North Sumatra, the prevalence reached 21.1%, while in Humbang Hasundutan, the figure reached 29.6%. A survey in Simarigung Village found that 27 toddlers were stunted. This study aims to evaluate the benefits of stunting prevention education based on the AECAS application, with a focus on increasing the knowledge, attitudes, and actions of mothers in Simarigung Village. This research used a quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test, involving 47 mothers of babies and toddlers using Android cellphones. The sampling method used was total sampling, and a paired t-test was carried out to analyze the results. The research results show a difference between the pretest and posttest with a confidence level of 95%. In the knowledge variable, there was a significant increase (p-value=0.000 < 0.05) with a Mean Paired Difference of 0.34. The attitude variable also showed a significant increase (p-value=0.000 <0.05) with a Mean Paired Difference of 0.36. Likewise, the action variable showed a significant increase (p-value = 0.000 < 0.05) with a Mean Paired Difference of 0.27. The results of the normality test show that the data for the Knowledge, Attitude, and Action variables are normally distributed. Therefore, it is hoped that respondents can increase their understanding of preventing stunting in infants and toddlers thanks to the education provided through the AECAS application

Abstract

Smoking behavior remains a global health issue due to its connection to various diseases and even death. Understanding the factors influencing elderly awareness to quit smoking is crucial for public health interventions. A study conducted in Bonan Dolok I Village, Sijamapolang District, Humbang Hasundutan Regency, aimed to analyze factors affecting the elderly's awareness to quit smoking. The factors explored included knowledge, sources of information, age, work, and family support. The study used a cross-sectional design with an analytic descriptive quantitative approach and involved 41 elderly men in the village. The results showed that 85.4% of the participants had good knowledge, 87.8% had a good source of information, 87.8% had good family support, and 90.2% were aged between 60 and 79 years. The Chi-Square test revealed no significant relationship between knowledge factors, sources of information, family support, age, occupation, and elderly awareness to stop smoking (P> 0.05). Based on these findings, the study concluded that factors such as knowledge, sources of information, family support, age, and work do not significantly affect the awareness of the elderly to stop smoking in the village of Bonan Dolok I. It is recommended for further research to consider other factors such as personal motivation, mental health, and social influence in designing interventions to increase awareness of stopping smoking in the elderly population
