Abstract

The community service aims to increase the understanding of business legalities such as NIB certificates, labels, and product packaging for SMEs in Parseh village, Socah district, and Bangkalan regency. The program implementation method is carried out in three stages: preparation, implementation, and post-implementation. The program focuses on two activities: assistance in issuing NIB certificates and knowledge about labels and product packaging to 30 MSMEs. These activities showed that most SMEs do not have NIB and lacked knowledge about the importance of business legality labels and packaging for three months. By conducting this program, all of the SMEs have succeeded in issuing NIB certificates, as well as successfully making mock-ups of labels and product packaging that are suitable for business improvement. The program evaluation shows that all aspects of the implementation of activities, such as benefits, facilities, and roles of the companions, have good values and relatively high NPS (Net Promoter Score) values, which are beneficial for SMEs.

Abstract

The Madurese language is slowly shifting because many young people prefer Indonesian, Arabic, or English in school and daily life. However, pesantren (Islamic boarding schools) still play an important role in keeping the Madurese language alive. This study examines how santri (students) at Pesantren Al-Hikam, Bangkalan maintain the Madurese language by looking at their opinions, challenges, and solutions. The research used a qualitative method with questionnaires (75 students) and interviews with six santri and two ustadzah (female religious teachers). The analysis was supported by theories of language attitude (Holmes, 2013), domains of use and language maintenance (Fishman, 1991; 1997), diglossia (Berger, 1990), and social networks (Milroy, 1992). Results show that santri are proud to use Madurese and see it as part of their identity. They use it in family, friendship, and religious settings, but face problems with polite speech levels like engghi bhunten (high speech level means yes-no), peer pressure, and the lower prestige of Madurese compared to other languages. To solve this, pesantren rules, peer support, and personal efforts help them keep using Madurese. The study shows that pesantren are not only for religion and education but also help protect local language and culture.

Abstract

In Indonesia’s multilingual higher education landscape, especially in Eastern regions like Makassar, institutions face growing challenges in developing students' academic literacy in both Indonesian and English amid rapid digital transformation. This study investigates how digital tools, pedagogical practices, and cultural factors intersect in shaping language learning outcomes. Using a sequential explanatory mixed-methods design, the study surveyed 200 students and 50 faculty members across five universities in Makassar, followed by interviews, focus groups, and classroom observations conducted between August 2023 and March 2024. Quantitative data included self-assessed language proficiency, digital literacy, and learning motivation. Qualitative data provided contextual insights into classroom practices and institutional dynamics. Quantitative analysis revealed major gaps in productive English skills—73% of students reported difficulties in speaking—and substantial challenges in Indonesian academic writing. Faculty quality (β = 0.79, p .001) and student motivation (β = 0.72, p .01) were the strongest predictors of success. Qualitative findings emphasized the role of translanguaging, culturally responsive teaching, and the digital divide in shaping learning experiences. A hybrid learning model (40% online, 60% face-to-face) integrating translanguaging strategies and local cultural practices emerged as a promising approach. The study recommends faculty development in digital pedagogy and inclusive curriculum design. Strengthening multilingual education in resource-constrained contexts requires context-specific innovations that bridge global competencies with local identities through culturally grounded digital transformation.

Abstract

This study investigates the utilization of visual stickers as communicative instruments in TikTok comment sections, with particular focus on audience responses to a public figure's clarification video. Adopting a descriptive qualitative methodology, the research examines data collected from three TikTok videos published by Indonesian media outlets in November 2024. The analytical framework is established upon Charles Sanders Peirce's triadic semiotic model alongside Danesi's theoretical perspective on visual language replacement in digital communication. Findings indicate that commenters predominantly select stickers conveying mockery and anger, thereby generating collective patterns of distrust and frustration regarding the video content. Sticker selection additionally operates as a social marker facilitating users' identity expression, whether projecting critical, humorous, or skeptical personas within the interaction. These visual components extend beyond mere emotional expression, serving to establish users' discursive positioning within the broader conversation. The study substantiates that TikTok stickers constitute multimodal semiotic resources that fundamentally influence how individuals articulate attitudes, formulate interpretations, and engage in digital platform interactions. This phenomenon represents a significant transition from text-based communication toward visually-mediated expression in contemporary online discourse.
