Abstract

This study uses qualitative design to collect, filter and analyze data. The subject of this research is Mice cartoon in Kompas Newspapers in 2020. The selection of cartoons uses a purposive sampling technique. Purposive sampling is sampling that is related to the purpose of the study. From a number of cartoons has been observed,cartoons published on March 8, 2020 were chosen as samples because they show the pandemic situation of the global community as well as in Indonesia. The object of this research is focused on cartoon visual analysis, the meaning of denotation and connotation meaning. The object of this research is based on the analysis the meaning of denotation and connotation meaning using the semiology theory of Roland Barthes. The result of the study, Mice cartoons are not only convey the the reality of Indonesian people’s lives in facing Covid-19, but Mice also brought smiles in providing the preventive solutions, moreover Mice cartoons reminded the whole community to always take care of themselves and obey the government instruction in putting on your mask while traveling or “self quarantine “ avoid the crowd.

Abstract

Mesatua folklore in Bali has moral education values. The aim of this training is to draw folklore illustrations for elementary school (SD) children in Bali to preserve the mesatua tradition whose values ​​are relevant to society. This training program uses three program approaches, namely (1) Mesatua, (2) Drawing illustrations, (3) Reading children's drawings. The implementation of the program resulted in the provision of mesatua folklore in each region which was given differently according to the needs of the local environment. At the public elementary school in Budakeling village, Karangasem district, they were given the folklore I Belog, while at the public elementary school in Tukadsumaga village, Buleleng district, they were given the story The Arrogant Frog. The conclusion shows that children's illustrative work discussed line, composition, illustration, typography and color. The works produced by elementary school children in the two districts show works that are honest, expressive and free. The composition of the fields also shows that their drawings are full of freedom and confidence in drawing. Character values ​​such as not being arrogant, having to study hard and being obedient to worship are contained in the children's drawings. ==== Cerita rakyat mesatua di Bali memiliki nilai pendidikan moral. Tujuan pelatihan menggambar ilustrasi cerita rakyat untuk anak-anak Sekolah Dasar (SD) di Bali adalah untuk melestarikan tradisi mesatua yang nilai-nilainya relevan dengan masyarakat. Program pelatihan ini menggunakan tiga pendekatan program, yaitu (1) mesatua, (2) menggambar ilustrasi, dan (3) membaca gambar anak. Pelaksanaan program menghasilkan pemberian cerita rakyat mesatua di masing-masing daerah diberikan secara berbeda-beda sesuai dengan kebutuhan lingkungan setempat. Di SD Negeri Desa Budakeling, Kabupaten Karangasem diberikan cerita rakyat I Belog, di SD Negeri Desa Tukadsumaga, Kabupaten Buleleng diberikan cerita Si Kodok Sombong. Simpulannya menunjukkan bahwa karya ilustrasi anak-anak dibahas garis, komposisi, ilustrasi, tipografi, dan warna. Karya-karya yang dihasilkan oleh anak-anak SD di dua kabupaten menunjukkan karya yang jujur, ekspresif, dan bebas. Komposisi bidangnya pun menunjukkan gambar mereka penuh kebebasan dan rasa percaya diri dalam menggambar. Nilai-nilai karakter seperti tidak boleh sombong, harus rajin belajar, serta taat beribadah terkandung dalam gambar anak.

Abstract

Bullying khususnya di lingkungan sekolah merupakan masalah serius yang dapat berdampak negatif pada mental dan fisik peserta didik. Kampanye terkait bullying dapat dilakukan dengan cara yang kreatif dan menarik, salah satunya dengan pelatihan desain t’shirt digital printing bertema stop bullying. Kegiatan ini tidak hanya meningkatkan kesadaran, tetapi juga melibatkan peserta didik secara aktif dalam upaya pencegahan bullying, sehingga dapat menciptakan lingkungan belajar yang aman dan nyaman. Peserta didik akan dibimbing untuk berkreativitas, bebas berekspresi dan berimajinasi, merepresentasikan ungkapan penolakan bullying dalam bentuk desain t’shirt. Kegiatan pelatihan menggunakan metode service learning dengan pendekatan partisipatif, tahapan dari service learning meliputi investigation, preparation, action, reflection, dan demonstration. Hasil dari kegiatan pelatihan dapat mengembangkan keterampilan, kreativitas, serta membangun karakter yang kuat (character building) bagi peserta didik penerus bangsa. Melalui desain, sebagai sarana kreatif, peserta didik menjadi makin terampil dalam mengekspresikan diri, solutif dalam melihat dan menyikapi fenomena dan isu-isu sosial (bullying) yang berdampak buruk dalam lingkungan sekolah.

Abstract

Bite Bali is a bakery & dessert cafe from Bali located on Sunset Road, Seminyak, Badung. The competitor is quite tight with a similar business concept, Bite Bali has its own advantages and uniqueness, namely their special menu of pastry croissants with various choices of flavors. Not only the menu, the interior design of the Bite Bali shop is also no less interesting to visit. However, all of this uniqueness is considered insufficient to compete with other competing brands which are increasingly emerging with the same business concept. The Bite Bali brand has shortcomings in terms of visual branding, such as colors, typography and illustrations that do not yet have a consistent visual brand identity. Therefore, it is necessary to design a strong visual identity for the Bite Bali brand to further strengthen their brand awareness so that it has a distinctive image. This will help to build customer perceptions of the Bite Bali brand to be stronger, easier to remember and known and able to compete with other competitors. This project uses Alina Wheeler's creation method with five stages of conducting research, clarifying strategy, designing identity, creating contact points, and managing assets. The data collection technique using a qualitative descriptive method, namely collecting data through four methods, namely interviews, observation, documentation and literature study. This project produces a brand's visual identity, such as logo, colors, typography and illustrations. After that, the brand's visual identity is consistently applied to the required commercial media design such as posters, menus, loyalty cards, stickers and social media content.

Abstract

Keep on Stage is a concept for a music performance event that is designed by Pregina Showbiz Bali with the intent to conserve the spirit to keep doing live performances on a stage. But, the Keep on Stage event does not yet have any visual identity to present itself to the public. Therefore, Keep on Stage needs a visual identity design that is strong so It can be recognized and remembered. This design uses the creation method developed by Hawkins on the book “Creating Through Dance” that is Exploration, Improvisation, and Formation. This design also uses method of collecting data like interview, observation, literature study, and documentation. This design creates brand visual identity like logo and illustration assets that is apllicated on promotion media like Instagram post, Billboard, T-Banner, T- Shirt, and Nametag. The idea of conserving the spirit of music performance that Pregina Showbiz Bali wants to show through Keep on Stage event are presented on the visual identity that have been designed.

Abstract

Bali dikenal sebagai daerah tujuan pariwisata yang berbudaya. Padahal di abad ke-17, Bali dikenal sebagai pulau kejam dengan masyarakatnya yang suka menjarah kapal karam. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan secara kritis konstruksi citra Bali oleh kolonial Belanda dengan memanfaatkan peran media-media representatif. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif kritis. Hasilnya menunjukan bahwa media-media representatif seperti brosur, folder, dan desain sampul buku yang dibuat oleh kolonial Balanda telah berhasil mengkonstruksi citra budaya Bali. Dengan menghadirkan ilustrasi perempuan, patung, upacara Ngaben, dan keindahan alam Bali, citra yang melekat pada pulau Bali sampai saat ini adalah sebagai pulau surga terakhir. Bali memiliki berbagai daya tariknya tersendiri untuk dikunjungi baik keindahan alam maupun tradisi yang masih dijaga kuat. Ideologi visual yang dimunculkan adalah ideologi ketenangan, kenyamanan, dan keindahan pulau Bali. Bali adalah surga terakhir bagi para wisatawan Barat. Abstract

Badung menghasilkan 281 ton sampah, 52 truk/ hari dengan rata-rata berisikan total 1,6 ton. Sampah yang diambil petugas dari rumah warga masih dalam kondisi tercampur (tidak dipilah sesuai dengan jenis sampahnya). Mengatasi permasalahn sampah, diperlukan penerapan skema pengelolaan sampah dengan mengembangkan prinsip dasar 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle). Berdasarkan data-data serta keterangan langsung dari pihak DLHK, menunjukkan bahwa kesadaran warga khususnya sekitar Badung-Bali dalam memilah jenis sampah masih rendah, sehingga perlu dilakukan kegiatan edukasi kepada warga terkait pengelolaan sampah. Salah satu upaya yang dapat dilakukan untuk meningkatkan kesadaran masyarakat terkait pengelolaan sampah, adalah dengan cara perancangan komunikasi visual sebagai media edukasi pemilahan sampah rumah tangga. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini selain menghasilkan karya desain yang efektif sebagai media edukasi, juga untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan, pemahaman, yang berujung kepada aksi kepedulian masyarakat dalam mengelola sampah dimulai dari lingkup rumah tangga. Metode yang digunakan terdiri dari tiga tahapan: Observasi lapangan ke tempat pemilahan sampah untuk menentukan media edukasi yang tepat. Mendesain dan merealisasikan media komunikasi visual untuk edukasi pemilahan sampah rumah tangga. Setelah melalui beberapa tahapan, terealisasi 10 media komunikasi visual yang efektif, informatif dan persuasif terkait sampah. Desain yang dibuat diharapkan mampu berfungsi sebagai problem solver bagi pihak DLHK untuk memudahkan sosialisasi dan edukasi bagi masyarakat agar mulai mengolah sampahnya sendiri di rumah tangga.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to describe the visual communication of mural in Tamanbali village, Bangli-Bali. The mural in Tamanbali village is a visual communication work that conveys information and persuades the public to always follow the health protocols during this Covid-19 pandemic. This study used a qualitative design. Everything related to the mural made by the 2021 Community Services Programme students of Indonesian Institute of the Art Denpasar in Tamanbali village, Bangli regency will be describe qualitatively. The subject of this research is a mural made by the 2021 Community Services Programme students of Indonesian Institute of the Art Denpasar inTamanbali village, Bangli. The object of this research focus on analyzing the illustration, typography, colour, and layout as well as the denotative and connotative meaning. The presence of the mural in Tamanbali village, Bangli made by the 2021 Community Services Programme students of Indonesian Institute of the Art Denpasar is a form of visual communication work that effective in conveying messages. The mural that presents the social problem related to the corona virus becomes an effective way to persuade and inform the public to always be aware of the spread of the corona virus. This mural reminds Tamanbali residents and the people in general to always follow the health protocols in various actions. The health protocols mentioned above, such as maintaining distance between one another during meetings, always wearing a mask, and also washing hands regularly to maintain cleanliness.

Abstract

Kajang is one of the essential elements in Balinese death rites. Kajang, as a symbol, has visual communication because it is a representation of the meanings of life. This research aims to classify the Kajang's appearance and interpret the Kajang's rerajahan from a visual communication perspective as the ceremony's spirit. The benefit of this research is that it can be used as a reference in classifying the visual appearance of awnings and is useful for understanding the meaning of awnings, so that awnings can be widely recognized by the Balinese people. The research method used is a critical qualitative method with the point of view of cultural studies.The results show that in the Hindu tradition, especially in Bali, Kajang is written in the Modre script and the Swalalita script and then placed on the curvature of the person to be incised. The types of Kajang in the composition of Ulaka Warih Ida Bhatara Dalem Benculuk Tegeh Kori, namely; (1) Kajang Klasa Walaka, (2) Kajang Pemijilan Walaka, (3) Kajang Kawitan Walaka, (4) Kajang Recedana Walaka, and (5) Kajang Sari/ Siwa Walaka. Kajang in Balinese Hindu tradition is a symbol (pengawak) of the spiritual and physical bodies of people who have died. In visual communication, Kajang is an illustration that explains a narrative of life. Religiously, the Kajang is a religious symbol with the meanings of human life.

Abstract

Picture stories are known as popular culture because of their mass production. In the view of modern art, picture stories are categorized as low-class work. However, with the presence of the literary heritage of the Mahabharata story in puppets, Herjaka's Mahabharata series becomes a paradox because the low-class and high-class cultures merge into one. This study aims to describe the construction of the visual structure of the Mahabharata series as a postmodern culture. This research method uses a qualitative design with data analysis using visual communication design theory, postmodern theory, representation theory, and hermeneutic theory. The results show that the construction of the visual structure of the Mahabharata series by Herjaka consists of modern and traditional visual appearances. This literary work is a postmodern cultural work because the fusion of boundaries between traditional and modern cultures and the loss of boundaries between literary heritage and popular culture marks it. The picture stories in the Mahabharata series show the birth of the re-creation of the picture stories and the presence of culture as a struggle for meaning in postmodern culture.
