Abstract

Language skills are extremely crucial to grasp in order to face the progress of time. In Indonesia, English is a foreign language and has become part of the school curriculum, from elementary school to university. Parents are their children's first educators, and children grow and develop best in their families. As a result, whether directly or indirectly, the existence of the family has an impact on the learning achievement of children. The purpose of this study was to know and explain the relationship between students’ socio-economic status and their English achievement in the 8th grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Makassar. The sample for this study consists of 29 students from class A. The information came from a questionnaire about the students' SES, as well as information from the English teacher about students' English achievement and English scores on the odd semester final test. Both of the data sets were calculated with Person Product Moment Correlation in SPSS Program Version 23. Referring to the research question, the result shows that there was a positive significance correlation between students’ socio-economic status (X) and their English achievement (Y). It was found that the correlation value was equal to 0,535, which means the correlation between two variables is moderate (0.40–0.599), it is included in the third category. As the findings showed, rxy>rtable= 0.535 > 0.367. Therefore, it can be concluded that the students’ higher SES had an influence on how their achievement will be measured. For future researchers, the research should be done (if using the same method) with some improvements, such as the type of the questionnaire, number of samples, previous studies, etc. This is expected to show more clearly and comprehensibly the relationship between students’ socio-economic status and their learning achievement

Abstract

UMKM di Kabupaten Gowa memegang peranan yang sangat penting dan menjadi basis pembangunan ekonomi kerakyatan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisa dan mengkaji pengembangan UMKM dalam rangka meningkatkan perekonomian masyarakat di Kabupaten Gowa. Penelitan ini di pusatkan di Kabupaten Gowa. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif deskriptif. Data dapat di peroleh melalui, observasi, wawancara, rekaman, dan lain sebagainya. Metode Analisis yang digunakan adalah analisis matriks SWOT. Metode analisis SWOT terdiri dari pengambungan unsure kekuatan (Strengths), kelemahan (Weaknesses), peluang (Opportunities), dan ancaman (Threats). Hasil penelitian menemukan bahwa UMKM dapat menerapkan strategi pemasaran S-O dengan melakukan inovasi pada produk, membuat ciri khas produk berdasarkan klaster wilayah dan memanfaatkan teknologi untuk melakukan promosi juga penjualan produk agar lebih dikenal oleh konsumen diluar klaster wilayah. Strategi W-O meliputi pelaku UMKM untuk senantiasa memperhatikan keinginan pasar dan keinginan konsumen, keinginan pasar dan konsumen yang berubah-ubah menuntut pelaku UMKM untuk melakukan inovasi pada jangka waktu tertentu. Strategi pemasaran S-T memberikan ciri khas yang menonjol pada produk yang dihasilkan oleh pelaku UMKM dan juga melakukan proteksi pada produk dengan membuat merk dagang agar produk tidak diplagiat oleh pelaku UMKM lainnya. Pemasaran dengan strategi W-T menuntut bagi pelaku UMKM untuk memperkenalkan hasil produk pada daerah lain diluar kalsterisasi agar kiranya produk dikenal tidak hanya pada lingkungan klaster tersebut.

Abstract

Background: Program pengabdian merupakan implementasi dari kerjasama antara Konsulat Jenderal Republik Indonesia di Davao di Filipina dengan Konsorsium Universitas Muhammadiyah se-Indonesia dengan melibatkan Davao de Ateneo University di Filipina yang bertemakan untuk meningkatkan nasionalisme dan ekonomi masyarakat Indonesia keturunan yang tinggal di Davao. Metode: Metode dilakukan dengan pendampingan dan penyuluhan dengan beberapa tahapan. Sekaligus memanfaatkan momentum perayaan kemerdekaan indonesia guna penguatan jiwa nasionalisme warga indonesia keturunan di Davao. Hasil: Didapatkan kendala pendidikan, sosio ekonomi dan serta rendahnya nasionalisme indonesia pada warga indonesia keturunan diDavao, Philipina sebagai dampak dari status non kewarganegaraan baik philipina maupun indonesia. Kesimpulan: Pengabdian ini diharapkan dapat menumbuhkan jiwa nasionalisme, melalui pengenalan budaya, bahasa, tarian, masakan, hingga pengenalan mapping geografis Indonesia bagi masyarakat keturunan Indonesia di Davao, Philipina.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the types of assessments used by teacher in teaching English to grade nine at SMP Negeri 3 Mare Kab Bone and to determine the use of these assessments by teacher. This study used a qualitative method. The subjects of this study were English teacher at SMP Negeri 3 Mare. In analyzing the data, the researcher collected data from observation, interview, and gave questionnaire to teacher, and identified the types of assessment used by teacher in teaching English and how to use these assessments in teaching English. The results show that teacher use authentic assessment in teaching English. There are three types of assessment in teaching. These assessments are skills assessment, portfolio assessment, and project assessment and for project assessment the teacher does not use them in teaching activities because it takes longer time, so the teacher only gives assignments to students in the form of project assignments to be completed at home as project assignments. for the final exam The researcher concluded that the types of assessment used by the teacher in teaching English were skills assessment and project assessment on authentic assessment in teaching English at SMP Negeri 3 Mare.

Abstract

This qualitative study looks at the use of Canva as a learning media tool among pre-service teachers enrolled in the Professional Teacher Education Program (PPG). Data were collected through on-the-ground interviews with four PPG students to better understand their experiences and perceptions of using Canva to create teaching materials. The study investigated the most common forms of teaching materials created with Canva, desired features, key benefits, and constraints faced by the teachers. Findings showed that pre-service teachers generally had positive experiences using Canva, praising its ease of use, time-saving capabilities, and collaboration features. They commonly develop presentation materials, infographics and posters using Canva's vast library of templates and graphic tools. Its main advantages include increased teaching efficiency and the creation of visually appealing content that promotes student engagement and understanding. However, issues such as limited internet connectivity and restrictions on Canva's free features underscore the need for improved infrastructure and institutional assistance. This study highlights Canva's potential to improve educational practices and offers significant insights for building curricula and strategies for technology integration in education.

Abstract

The focus of the research aims to analize the role of Muhammadiyah Pesantrens in instilling the sense of patriotism for the prevention of terrorism. The study is designed with a qualitative setting using a phenomenological approach to understand individuals' experiences and perceptions of the concept of love for their homeland, and a constructivist approach to understand how pesantrens actively initiate and implement programs to strengthen such attitudes. The data collected through observation and interview. The findings of the research indicate several preventive measures taken by Muhammadiyah pesantrens in strengthening the love for the homeland to prevent the spread of terrorism seeds such as education moderate and progressive Islamic value, cultivation of national character, and teaching of understanding the danger of terrorism. These measures include embedding education with progressive moderate Islamic values. This is realized by developing a curriculum based on moderate, tolerant, and inclusive Islamic values. Moderate Islam is a humanistic Islam that can accommodate everyone, from various social strata, ethnicities, and religions; tolerance is a fundamental value in Islam; inclusive education is the educational service provided by Muhammadiyah pesantrens, which does not discriminate based on skin color, ethnicity, religion, race, or social group. Another step is the cultivation of national character among the santri, which involves reinforcing knowledge of local history and culture based on Al-Islam and Muhammadiyah principles. A relevant future study would be to investigate the causes of the emergence of anti-diversity attitudes and hardline Islam found in some pesantrens in Indonesia.

Abstract

This research focuses on efforts to improve students' listening skills through the application of note-taking practice strategies. The focus of this study is to explore how note-taking strategies can help students in understanding and organizing information from listening material delivered orally. The purpose of this study is to find out how effective the note-taking strategy is in improving students' listening skills. This research was carried out using the Classroom Action Research (PTK) approach which was carried out in two cycles. The instrument used in this study is a listening test designed to measure students' listening ability before and after the implementation of note-taking strategies. The results showed a significant improvement in students' listening skills after the implementation of the note-taking strategy. In the first cycle, the average listening score of students increased from 45.00% to 56.00%, while in the second cycle the average score increased further to 66.97%. These findings indicate that note-taking strategies are effective in improving students' ability to absorb and understand information conveyed orally. Thus, this study concludes that note-taking strategies are an effective method to improve students' listening skills and can be implemented in United Kingdom language learning to help students develop better listening skills.

Abstract

This research aimed to know the correlation between students' Receptive Vocabulary and Literal Comprehension. The subject of this research consisted of 20 students in the 9th grade in SMPN Satap 5 Rumbia Jeneponto. Correlation research was conducted using research design. The questionnaire was the tool utilized to get the data.The results of this study are the students have balance skills in receptive vocabulary. They are not good at applying their receptive vocabulary. And second, the students have good skills in literal comprehension, the students have good skills in literal comprehension as well. They can understand and analyze the main idea and supporting idea in a text. Therefore based on the data above, the researcher found that there was a signicant correlation between the students' receptive vocabulary and literal comprehension in the 9th-grade students of SMPN Satap 5 Rumbia. The Pearson correlation was found to be r oxy = 0.552, which is considered sufficient correlation in the range of 0.400 to 0.599 for standard correlation. It means that there is a correlation between students' receptive vocabulary and literal comprehension. Therefore, the student's receptive vocabulary inuences their literal comprehension, as much their receptive vocabulary the better their literal comprehension.

Abstract

This study investigates the quality of language use among non-English major students in Indonesia through authentic assessment of English language learning. Five students from diverse majors were selected as subjects, and their written descriptions of daily activities during the holiday were analyzed. The assessment criteria included grammar and syntax, vocabulary, clarity and precision, organization and cohesion, conventions and mechanics, audience and purpose alignment, as well as creativity and style. Data analysis followed the framework proposed by Miles and Huberman, involving data collection, sorting, coding, pattern identification, interpretation, and verification. The findings revealed varied levels of language proficiency among the students. Some essays exhibited accurate grammar and sentence structure, while others contained recurring errors, particularly in subject-verb agreement and sentence construction. Vocabulary usage ranged from adequate to descriptive, though specific essays required more precise word choices. Clarity and precision were generally observed, though transitions between paragraphs often needed improvement. Organization and cohesion were inconsistent, with some essays lacking clear structure and logical flow. While most students adhered to writing conventions, minor errors in spelling and punctuation were noted. Audience and purpose alignment were generally effective, and creativity was evident, although some essays displayed underdeveloped stylistic expression. Overall, this research offers valuable insights into the language proficiency of non-English major students and provides recommendations for improving writing skills through authentic assessment methods. Future studies could focus on implementing the feedback from these assessments to enhance the quality of students' written descriptions.

Abstract

Penggunaan literasi digital dan pemanfaatan LMS sangat membantu proses pembelajaran bagi guru di Pesnatren. Selain itu, pemanfaatan lahan pertanian perlu dikembangkan untuk kebutuhan perekonomian pesantren. Adapun tujuan dari program pengabdian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan guru memanfaatkan lierasi digital dan LMS dalam pembelajaran. Tujuan kedua adalah memberikan pelatihan pembuatan pestisida ramah lingkungan untuk keberlanjutan pengembangan pertanian. Mitra dalam program ini adalah Pondok Pesantren Darul Fallah Bissoloro di Kabupaten Gowa. Jumlah peserta yang ikut sebnyak 35 orang yang terdiri dari guru dan masyarakat umum. Program pengabdian ini dilakukan dengan petihan dan FGD secara langsung bersama guru dan seluruh staf pengajar di pesantren tersebut terkait literasi digital dan pemanfaatan LMS. Sedangkan pelatihan pembuatan pestisida ramah limgkungan diikuti oleh guru-guru dan masyarakat sekitar pesantren, kegiatan dilakukan berupa workshop pemberian materi dan praktek membuat pestisida dengan bahan yang ada disekitar lingkungan pesantren. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan kompetensi guru dalam menggunakan lierasi digital dan LMS. Meraka memahami jenis literasi digital dan mampu mengembangkannya dalam menyusun materi dan mendia pembelajaran. Sedangkan untuk pelatihan pestisida ramah lingkungan, masyarakat sangat antusias mengingat permasalahan pertanian yang dihadapai dan mengurangi ketergantungan terhadap penggunaan pestisida berbahan kimia. Selain itu meraka mampu membuat pestisida secara mandiri karena bahan yang tersedia dilingkungan sekitar. Kegiatan ini memberikan dampak yang positif bagi guru-guru pondok pesantren Darul Fallah dan masyarakat sekitar. Para guru mengetahui berbagai jenis literasi digital dan pemanfaatan LMS, sedangkan petani dapat memanfaatkan berbagai bahan alami yang ada disekitar lingkungan untuk membuat pestisida ramah lingkungan
