Abstract

This research aimed to know the effectiveness of using Tomatis Method to improve the students’ listening skill and to know the student activeness toward teaching learning process through Tomatis Method at the tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 2 Makssar. The method of this research consisted of two cycles. One cycle consisted of four meetings. It means that there were eight meetings for two cycles. As subject in this research was class X in 2012-2013 academic year with students’ number as about 36 students, 23 of the students are men and 13 students are women. The instruments of this research were observation sheet and listening test or evaluation. The findings of the research were students’ improvement in listening was 64.55 in cycle I and then it became 73.93 in cycle II. The students’ participation in learning listening process in the first meeting of cycle I was 59.02% then it became 81.25% in fourth meeting of cycle II.Keywords: Tomatis Method, Listening, Improve.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas penggunaan metode Tomatis untuk meningkatkan keterampilan mendengarkan siswa dan untuk mengetahui keaktifan siswa terhadap proses belajar mengajar melalui Metode Tomatis pada siswa kelas X SMK Negeri 2 Makassar. Metode penelitian ini terdiri dari dua siklus. Satu siklus terdiri dari empat pertemuan. Ini berarti bahwa ada delapan pertemuan selama dua siklus. Sebagai subyek dalam penelitian ini adalah kelas X pada tahun akademik 2012-2013 dengan jumlah siswa sebagai sekitar 36 siswa, 23 siswa laki-laki dan 13 siswa perempuan. Instrumen penelitian ini adalah lembar observasi dan tes atau evaluasi mendengarkan. Temuan penelitian ini adalah peningkatan siswa dalam mendengarkan adalah 64,55 pada siklus I dan kemudian menjadi 73,93 pada siklus II. Partisipasi siswa dalam proses belajar mendengarkan di pertemuan pertama siklus I adalah 59, 02% maka menjadi 81, 25% di pertemuan keempat siklus II.Kata Kunci: Metode Tomatis, Mendengarkan, Meningkatkan.

Abstract

The purpose of this research  to find out (1) The kinds of error in Indonesian to English translation text made by the students of SMA Negeri 13 Pangkep, and (2) The sources of error in Indonesian to English translation text made by students of SMA Negeri 13 Pangkep. This research is descriptive quantitative research. The subject of this research is the second year students of SMA Negeri 13 Pangkep. The second year students consists of five classes (105 students). The writer is taking 30 % as the sample, 30 students. The object of this research is errors in translating Indonesian to English text. The instrument of this research is a test (written text). The test is use to get data about the students’ error in Indonesian to English translation text. The result of this research, the writer found that the students make error in Indonesian to English translation text, the writer find out the kinds of error and the sources of error that made by students in translating a text Indonesian into English. The kinds of error are(1) Inversion of meaning students made about 65 error in text 1 and 68 error in text 2, (2) Omission of meaning made by students with 47 times occurrence and text 2 with 93 times occurrence, (3) Addition of meaning. The error made in text 1 with 78 times of occurrence and 62 error in text 2, (4) Deviation of meaning, students made error with 43 error in text 1 and 112 error in text 2. The sources of error made by students are (1) Morphological aspect, in translating a text students made errors. In text 1, students made error about 126 times of occurrence and 121 times of occurrence in text 2, (2)Lexical aspect, students made error with 424 error and then followed by text 2 with 350 error, and (3) Syntactic aspect, the error made by students about 425 error in text 1 and text 2 about 227 error. It can be concluded that second grade students who take Indonesian to English Translation at SMA Negeri 13 Pangkep is still making errors in translated a texts and dominant errors that students made is lexical aspect.

Abstract

The objective of this research were to find out the kinds of verbal feedback strategy and how the feedback strategies used by English teachers in providing interactional feedback at second grade of SMK Negeri 2 Barru.  The researcher used descriptive-qualitative method. The subject of this research were two English teachers at SMK Negeri 2 Barru who had been teaching in second grade. The data were collected by observing 2 times for each teacher by using observation, interview and documentation. To gather the data, two English teachers and their students who were studying English as a foreign language were observed while they were in a teaching learning process. Their interactions in the classroom were recorded, transcribed, and then analyzed to find out the kinds of verbal feedback used by the teacher during the interaction. Then the data were analyzed by using qualitative method. The findings of this research indicated that the English teachers at SMK Negeri 2 Barruused both positive and negative feedback in the teaching and learning process. In terms of positive feedback, the teacher mostly used repetition, followed by praise and affirmation. In terms of negative feedback, the teacher also used a variety of ways which include repetition as the most common feedback provision, followed by clarification request, elicitation, explicit correction, and prompting.

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether there is a significant effect of using decoding skills on students' reading comprehension in grade X students of SMA Negeri 10 Maros in the academic year 2021-2022. The researcher applied a quasi-experimental design. In this study, the population was class X SMA Negeri 10 Maros with a total of 104 students from 4 classes, and the sample in this study was selected using a purposive sampling technique with a total of 52 students and divided into two classes: X MIA 1 as a control class that was treated without using decoding skills, and X MIA 2 as an experimental class that was treated using decoding skills. In this study, the method used was a quantitative one. The research instrument in this study used two reading tests that were administered twice: at the first meeting in learning, a pre-test was carried out, and at the last meeting in learning, a post-test was carried out after using decoding skills. The data was analysed using the t-test. The result obtained from this study showed the heterogeneity of student performance in reading comprehension after applying decoding skills and without applying the strategy. The result showed a post-test score p-value of 0,001 with a meaning rate of 0,05 (5%). In other words, the p-value (0,001) sig a = 0,05 (5%) was provided. Therefore, the outcome of the effect size was 1,58. It provided that using decoding skills was effective to use a strong level on students’ reading comprehension of descriptive text at the tenth-grade students of SMA Negeri 10 Maros at a strong level.

Abstract

The aims of this research was to describe and find out; (1) The implementation of the podcasts in improving students’ listening skill; (2) The improvement of students listening skill through podcasts. The method that used in this research was Classroom Action Research (CAR). This study was conducted following Kemmis and MacTaggart action research procedures; planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. This research carried out in two cycles. The cycle consisted 8 meetings. Most of the students got the good scores. The score of Minimum Mastery Criterion (KKM) was 75. In the first listening test there was 4 students who got points of over 75, that is 20%. In the second listening test there was 6 students who got points over 75, the presentage is 45%. It was increased by 10%. Afterwards, in the third listening test there was 16 students got points over 75. Next, there was improvement 45% for the second listening test, 80% from the first listening test to the third test. The class condition during teaching learning process was good and also got the positive response from the English teacher and students towards the action. To sum up, listening English podcasts can improve students’ listening skill.

Abstract

This study intends to determine whether reading contextual internet-based instructional materials can help third-grade students at UPTD SMPN 10 Barru.With their literal understanding. Two cycles of classroom action research were used in the design of this study. Eight meetings made up each cycle. There were four meetings per cycle. The third graders at UPTD SMPN 10 Barru kab. Barru participated in this classroom action research during the 2022–2023 school year. The 27 students in class IX who made up the research subjects were used. The application evaluated their reading comprehension.The student's reading comprehension in cycles I and II increased in terms of various scores. At the conclusion of the second cycle, the kids showed improvement. According to the study's conclusions, using contextual internet-based instructional materials could help students' reading comprehension. Mean scores for students' literal comprehension of the major idea on the D-Test were 37,04, 57,41, and 87,96 respectively, whereas the mean scores for students' literal comprehension of the supporting idea on the D-Test were 55,56, 58,33, and 85,19 respectively. The study's conclusions showed that students' literal comprehension improved when contextual internet-based instructional materials were used.

Abstract

This research aims to elaborate the use Rumah Ramah Apps by English teachers for low vision student in supporting English learning. The data was obtained through in-depth interviews with five lecturers who and a low vision student who implemented rumahramah.id Apps in English language teaching and learning.The research method adopted in this research is Research and Development (R&D). The findings of the study revealed that (1) Developing English language learning services through the 'Rumah Ramah' application for 'Low Vision' students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar focused on activities ranging from signing in to the Rumah Ramah page to comprehending the use of features on the instructor dashboard and course dashboard to the process of entering learning material, which focuses on general and content drip settings. (2) Implementing English language learning services through the 'Rumah Ramah' Apps for 'Low Vision' students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar focused on the way to access Rumah Ramah Apps and utilize of Rumah Ramah Apps for low vision student. As a result, Rumah Ramah is extremely practicable for usage as an English learning media in assisting lecturers in designing material for low vision students.

Abstract

This research was conducted at one of the tourist locations, namely Ke'te Kesu', North Toraja Regency. The aim of this research are to identify Information needs by the tourists in terms of intercultural communication and to identify the satisfaction of tourist. As well as, creating innovations to overcome these problems for tourist satisfaction. In the data collection process, this research uses the Design Thinking methodology stages. The four stages are (1) Sense and Sensibility, (2) Empathy, (3) Ideation and (4) Prototype. The research results show that there are difficulties in communicating due to language differences with local residents, so tourists sometimes experience confusion. Facilities at tourist locations lack safety because slippery stairs provide access for visitors to enjoy various destinations. Alternative solutions that have been provided by researchers include the Wonderful Toraja Application (WOTA) to make it easier for tourists to communicate and the Ke'te Kesu Tentacle (KeKel) to make it easier for tourists to access slippery stairs.

Abstract

The present research aimed at finding out: (1) the forms of code switching used by English teacher in teaching-learning activities; and (2) the reasons of the English teacher for using the code switching in teaching-learning activities. This study employs qualitative research design. The research subject is an English teacher for the 8th grade students at SMP Dirgantara Makassar. The research data were collected by using observation and interview. The data obtained were analyzed by using the procedure proposed by Creswell (2013), consisting of data managing, data organizing, giving a memo, describing, classifying, and data interpretation. From the results of data analysis, it was found that (1) the English teacher used 3 form of code switching in teaching-learning activities: inter-sentential switching, intra-sentential switching, and tag switching. (2) The teacher applied the code switching in teaching-learning activities for 5 reasons: for confirming, for motivating, for introducing unfamiliar vocabularies, for explaining the grammar, and for translating. Generlly, the use of code switching by English teacher in teaching-learning activities has positive implication for students in teaching English as a foreign language.

Abstract

This research aimed at finding out whether or not the implementation of scientific approach can improve the students’ speaking ability in term of accuracy (vocabulary) and smoothness at the SMAN 1 Takalar. This research was conducted through pre-experimental method. The population of this research consisted of one class of the ten grade and the sample of the research took IPA 4 class which consisted of 23 students in academic year 2022/2023. In collecting the data, the researcher gave a speaking test, the speaking test help into two steps, there were pre-test and post-test. The findings of this research showed that the mean score in pre-test in term of vocabulary was 53.30 and the post-test was 76.56. The mean score in pre-test in term smoothness was 51.86 and the post-test was 80.04 and the total result of vocabulary and smoothness in pre-test was 100.13 and the post-test was 160.08 with the improvement percentage in their speaking after being taught through scientific approach was 59.87% hence the students’ ability in speaking became better than before. Based on the result above, the researcher concluded that there was significant improvement of the students’ speaking ability by using scientific approach in SMAN 1 Takalar.
