Abstract

This study explores the integration of the Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA) in teaching academic collocations and phrases in English for Specific and Academic Purposes (ESP/EAP) settings. Conducted with 15 first-semester undergraduate students in Indonesia, the six-week classroom-based action research employed corpus-based instructional tasks to develop students’ lexical awareness and academic language proficiency. Data were collected through classroom observations, student writings, questionnaires, and semi-structured interviews. The findings show notable improvement in students’ use of academic collocations and discipline-specific phrases, reflected in increased accuracy and fluency in both writing and speaking. Learners reported that COCA supported them in identifying more natural and context-appropriate word combinations, boosting their confidence and academic expression. Initial challenges with the COCA interface and corpus navigation were mitigated through instructional scaffolding. Over time, students demonstrated increased autonomy and began using COCA for independent and collaborative learning. The study affirms the pedagogical value of corpus linguistics for novice ESP learners and highlights the importance of technical and teacher support in integrating corpus tools into curriculum design.

Abstract

In accordance with the awareness of the importance of human factors and the need to improve ship operational management in preventing ship, human, cargo and property accidents and preventing pollution of the marine environment, IMO issued a regulation on ship safety management & marine environment protection known as the International Safety Management (ISM Code) which was also consolidated in the SOLAS convention. This research was carried out on the KM ship. ADITHYA on the Pare-pare – Samarinda cruise. PT. Afta Trans Mandiri. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that several things about Safety Management are as follows introduction of Safety Management is very important for the company or for ships because the process of understanding Safety Management for companies will be able to compete for the market

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the environmental impacts of galena ore mining activities, particularly related to water quality degradation and disturbances to terrestrial biota. This study was conducted in the operational area of PT Christina Explo Mining in 2024, focusing on the water quality of the Sasak and Rero rivers and disturbances to flora and fauna due to land clearing activities. The methods used included sampling surface water and clean water in the mining area and observing terrestrial biota. The analysis results indicate that water quality in the study area remains within the quality standards based on Government Regulation No. 22 of 2021 and Minister of Health Regulation No. 2 of 2023. However, potential disturbances to terrestrial biota habitats were identified, necessitating sustainable environmental management and regular monitoring

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between training, job stress, and the International Safety Management (ISM) Code and ship crew performance, with commitment positioned as a mediating variable. The research was conducted at SKOM Sdn. Bhd. (SK Offshore & Marine) in Malaysia and focused on ship crews working on 10 offshore vessels. A quantitative approach was employed using a descriptive and confirmatory design. The study involved 213 crew members as respondents. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with SmartPLS and SPSS version 22. The findings reveal that commitment plays a significant mediating role in linking training, job stress, and ISM Code implementation to ship crew performance. Training contributes to better performance when it strengthens crew commitment and supports technical readiness in demanding maritime operations. Job stress, although often viewed as detrimental, becomes more manageable when organizational commitment is maintained, allowing crew members to remain focused on their responsibilities. Likewise, the implementation of the ISM Code enhances performance not only through compliance with safety procedures but also through its capacity to foster a stronger sense of responsibility and commitment among crew members. These results indicate that commitment is a central mechanism through which organizational and operational factors influence performance in the maritime sector. The study recommends strengthening technical training, improving workload distribution, providing mental and emotional support, and ensuring consistent implementation of safety management procedures to enhance ship crew performance.
