Abstract

The focus of this paper is an examination of the triggers of marriage in the St. Joseph Parish, Nikolaus Pacar, Diocese of Ruteng. Forced marriages in St. Joseph Parish, Nikolaus Pacar, reveal the complexities and challenges of preserving individual freedom and dignity. This phenomenon involves a variety of factors, including economics, debt, culture, pregnancy outside of marriage, arranged marriage and parental pressure. This research uses qualitative methods with interviews as data collection and elaborated with other sources that support the writing of this article. Forced marriages result in family conflict and unhappiness and an increase in domestic violence. Awareness of the importance of freedom in marriage is vital, as relationships built on coercion are at risk of disharmony and conflict. To ensure the success of a marriage, it is important that both partners have the freedom to make decisions. Conscious decisions will make the relationship harmonious. So in making decisions, open communication between the two people is needed.

Abstract

This article discusses interfaith marriages in the context of the Catholic Church, especially from the perspective of canon law and reconciliation efforts. The Catholic Church recognizes the validity of interfaith marriages under certain conditions, although it does not consider them sacraments. Through an analysis of canon law, requirements such as dispensation from the bishop, guarantees of educating children in the Catholic faith, and adapted marriage procedures are discussed. This article also explores the challenges of interfaith marriages, such as the potential for conflict due to differences in religious beliefs and practices. Furthermore, this article describes reconciliation efforts carried out by the Catholic Church, such as inter-faith dialogue to build mutual understanding, special pastoral formation for interfaith couples, as well as a more inclusive approach involving figures from other religions. The main goal of this effort is to help couples build strong commitment, overcome challenges wisely, and create a harmonious and loving family environment. This article highlights the Catholic Church's efforts to balance maintaining the integrity of Catholic teachings and values ​​by demonstrating openness and tolerance towards diversity of beliefs in an increasingly pluralistic modern society.

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between the 1983 Code of Canon Law and the Second Vatican Council from a pastoral theological perspective. The 1983 Code of Canon Law represents a significant reform in the Catholic Church’s legal structure, shifting from a juridical to a pastoral approach, largely influenced by the theological renewal of the Second Vatican Council. This research aims to analyze the continuity and transformation of canonical norms, particularly in their application within the Church's pastoral life. Using a qualitative method with a textual analysis approach, this study reviews official Church documents, including the 1983 Code of Canon Law and the decrees of the Second Vatican Council, applying hermeneutical and theological reflections. The findings reveal that the 1983 Code of Canon Law integrates key elements of Vatican II’s ecclesiology, emphasizing the communal nature of the Church and the active participation of the laity. Furthermore, the study highlights the pastoral dimension of canonical law, particularly in its flexibility and responsiveness to contemporary pastoral needs. The study concludes that the reforms brought by the 1983 Code of Canon Law reflect a deeper alignment with Vatican II’s vision, reinforcing the Church’s mission in a more inclusive and adaptive manner. These insights provide theological and pastoral implications for Church leaders and scholars in applying canonical norms effectively within pastoral contexts.

Abstract

ABSTRAKTulisan ini fokus membahas tema perkawinan. Topik utama yang diangkat ialah perkawinan dalam adat Dayak Kanayatn dan bagaimana kaitannya dengan perkawinan tradisi Gereja Katolik. Tujuan utama karya tulis ini adalah memperkenalkan adat-istiadat perkawinan orang Dayak Kanayatn. Artikel ini juga bertujuan menemukan apakah perkawinan Dayak Kanayatn sejalan dengan perkawinan Gereja Katolik. Metodologi yang digunakan dalam menyusun tulisan ini antara lain studi pustaka dan wawancara. Ada beberapa temuan yang menjadi hasil karya tulis ini. Pertama, Dayak Kanayatn merupakan salah satu sub suku Dayak Darat yang memiliki beragam keunikan, termasuk soal perkawinan adat. Kedua, perkawinan adat Dayak Kanayatn dilaksanakan dalam empat tahap, yaitu Pinang Tanya, Bakomo Manta’, Bakomo Masak, dan Gawe Penganten. Ketiga, perkawinan Gereja Katolik ialah perkawinan yang berciri satu dan tak terceraikan antara seorang pria dan wanita. Keempat, perkawinan Dayak Kanayatn juga merupakan perkawinan yang satu dan tak terceraikan serta meminta berkat dari Jubata (Allah). Abstract

The focus of this research examines the relevance and implications of John Rawls' concept of fairness in the context of minority politics in Indonesia, especially in the 2024 presidential election. John Rawls, in his A Theory of Justice, proposes the concept of justice as fairness, which is based on two principles: the same basic freedoms for all citizens and fair equality of opportunity. This study analyzes how this concept can be applied to Indonesia's political situation, where ethnic and religious minorities are often marginalized in the political and policy-making process. Through literature analysis and public opinion survey methods, this study evaluates how the 2024 presidential election reflects Rawls' principles of justice, particularly in terms of fair treatment, distribution of opportunities, and inclusion. The findings show that the Prabowo-Gibran presidential ticket received widespread support from various religious groups, including minorities, indicating the potential for inclusivity and acceptance in the context of this election. However, the study also underlines the risk of polarization and discrimination in political campaigns, emphasizing the need to maintain plurality

Abstract

Integrating Catholicism and Kanjan Serayong culture within the Pesaguan Dayak community exemplifies the dynamic interplay between religious and cultural rituals, particularly in funeral ceremonies, fostering communal solidarity and cultural resilience through a seamless blend of traditional and Catholic practices. This research aims to elucidate how these cultural and religious elements coexist and reinforce each other within the community. Employing qualitative methods, the study includes interviews with three Pesaguan Dayak Indigenous Leaders and informants, participant observations, and literature analysis guided by Victor Turner's theory of ritual structure. The findings highlight that both Catholicism and Kanjan Serayong culture places a strong emphasis on rituals, particularly funeral ceremonies, which are central to honoring the deceased and fostering communal solidarity. The study reveals a profound respect for sacred traditions and cultural heritage, showing that rituals reflect a seamless blend of Catholic and indigenous practices, indicative of cultural adaptation and resilience. This research underscores the need for further studies on cultural inculturation within Indigenous communities, comparative analyses across different cultural contexts, and interdisciplinary collaborations to enhance the understanding of Indigenous spirituality and cultural heritage preservation. Additionally, this study recommends involving local communities in the research process to promote mutual learning and effective cultural preservation strategies.

Abstract

This article focuses on the face of women in Levinasian face ethics. The author raises issues related to the increasing phenomenon of violence against women in Indonesia. This fact shows that women in Indonesia are still neglected. According to Levinasian face ethics, this paper intends to criticize the problems that occur from a philosophical point of view. The method of discussion of this paper is a critical analysis of cases of violence against women in the household in the light of Levinasian face ethics. Forms of violence against women in Indonesia are strongly influenced by a patriarchal culture that places the position and status of men above women. This cultural model opens up space for male superiority over women. The concept of Levinasian face ethics is an effective tool in minimizing acts of violence against women in the household. The author arrives at the finding that the root of the problem behind the rampant cases of domestic violence in Indonesia is the failure to understand the existence of women and weak law enforcement. Levinas' ethics of responsibility provide new treasures for understanding Indonesian society, namely that the existence of women is part of everyone's responsibility. A woman's face is how "she" shows herself. I came to the finding that the presence of women in the order of living together demands my responsibility, which is none other than respect for her. It is a form of engagement for the well-being and peaceful lives of others.

Abstract

marriage of the Catholic Church. The methodology used in compiling the writing, among others, is the study of literature or literature. There are several findings that became the result of this paper. First, the Mualang Dayak are an Ibanic Dayak sub-tribe that has a variety of uniqueness, including the matter of customary law for the Mualang Dayak marriage. Second, the customary law of Mualang Dayak marriage has several laws that must be implemented, namely the Marriage Process, Forms of the Mualang Dayak Marriage Party, Forms of Violations and Penalties for Dayak Mualang Marriage. Catholic marriages of men and women become one in a holy marriage. According to the specific nature of its nature, it is directed at the goodness of husband and wife as well as the birth of children and the education of children. So Catholic marriages are elevated to a sacred dignity as the Sacrament of Marriage.

Abstract

Manifestasi hidup manusia di Indonesia dan dunia adalah perkawinan. Secara adat, perkawinan merupakan kesepakatan antara laki dan perempuan untuk menjadi satu, baik secara batiniah maupun lahiriah untuk tujuan tertentu. Perkawinan bukan hanya urusan seorang pria dan wanita yang akan melangsungkan perkawinan melainkan juga urusan keluarga. Partisipasi keluarga dalam perkawinan adat Ende-Lio menjadi tanda ikatan kedua keluarga yang tidak dapat dipisahkan. Fokus utama artikel ini ialah bagaimana sikap Gereja Katolik mengenai Tradisi belis. Metodologi yang digunakan ialah penelitian kualitatif yaitu merujuk pada penelitian kepustakaan. Tradisi belis dalam masyarakat adat Ende-Lio masih relevan sampai saat ini. Belis dalam perkawanian adat Ende-Lio selalu mempunyai peran yang sangat penting dan utama. Belis menjadi kata kunci untuk membuka pintu pembicaraan dalam rencana untuk mengadakan sebuah perkawinan adat. Adapun belis memiliki fungsi sebagai syarat perkawinan, refleksi status sosial perempuan dan berpindahnya “kepemilikan” perempuan dari keluarga wanita ke keluarga pria. Studi ini bertujuan untuk melihat bagaimana tanggapan Gereja mengenai tradisi belis, dengan menggunakan Kitab Hukum Kanonik kanon 1057 sebagai landasan. Studi ini menemukan bahwa Tradisi belis dalam masyarakat Ende-Lio merupakan suatu bentuk pencegahan terhadap masalah penceraian dan poligami serta mempererat hubungan kekeluargaan dari kedua belah pihak. Bagi masyarakat Ende-Lio belis adalah unsur penting dalam lembaga perkawinan. Belis dipandang sebagai tradisi memiliki nilai luhur dan juga sebagai bentuk penghargaan terhadap kaum perempuan.

Abstract

This study focuses on Interfaith Marriages, where marriage occurs between two individuals with different religious beliefs. In the context of the Catholic Church, interfaith marriages are categorized into two types: interfaith marriages and inter-church marriages. Interfaith marriage involves a Catholic marrying a non-baptized individual of another faith, while inter-church marriage involves a Catholic marrying a non-Catholic who has already been baptized. This phenomenon has complex implications, in terms of religion, society, and law. Therefore, this research aims to provide an overview of interfaith marriages by presenting the Catholic perspective and legal aspects of the phenomenon in Indonesia. This study also seeks to understand the Catholic Church's views on interfaith marriages based on the perspective presented in Amoris Laetitia. The research employs a document analysis method to analyze documents such as Amoris Laetitia, Canon Law, and Civil Law. This method involves a careful examination of these documents to understand the Catholic Church's stance on interfaith marriages. In preparing for interfaith marriages, there are several demands placed on the couples, such as pledging to maintain their faith, striving to raise their children in the Catholic tradition, and more. Additionally, couples must be capable of addressing conflicts that may arise due to religious differences while strengthening a relationship built on mutual respect and support. From a legal perspective, both Canon Law and civil law regulate interfaith marriages, with Canon Law prohibiting interfaith marriages due to potential negative effects. However, for compelling reasons, the Church provides flexibility in conducting interfaith marriages. This research underscores the importance of thorough preparation and a clear understanding of the rights and responsibilities of couples in interfaith marriages. The Catholic Church, as stated in the document Amoris Laetitia, endeavors to promote happiness and stability in interfaith marriages while upholding Catholic values and teachings.
