Abstract

Indonesia's population in 2021 will increase by 0.92% from 2020. The increasing population demands the fulfillment of food. Land changes and their consequences indicate land damage. The purpose of the study was to assess the soil damage potential index (SDPI) on the slopes of Mount Argopura through terrain analysis and the use of geographic information system technology. The research was carried out on the slopes of Mount Argopura in 2022. The tools used included a clinometer, a GPS, spectrophotometer, AAS, arc GIS 13 and minitab. The materials included administrative maps, soil maps, slope maps, RBI maps, land use maps, rainfall maps. This research is descriptive exploratory with field survey method. The activity is divided into 3 stages, namely pre-survey, field survey, and post-survey. Research parameters include texture, soil thickness, soil type, soil pH, CEC, base saturation, soil drainage, parent material, landform, relief, rainfall, and land use. Based on the results of the study, the SDPI with an area of 22,148.75 ha was in the heavy category 44.12% (9772.28 ha), the medium category was 53.11% (11762.84 ha), and the light category was 2.77% (613.63 ha). Keywords:  Geographic Information System, Land Degradation, Mount Argopura, Soil Damage

Abstract

Songgon is known as a favorite durian-producing village in Banyuwangi Regency. However, in the last 3 years, durian farmers have been suffering because they failed to experience a bumper harvest. The purpose of this service is to initiate the restoration of the image of Songgon Village as the center of Banyuwangi durian through the provision of quality local Songgon durian seeds. The partner of this community service is the wives of farmers in the village or also called Wanita Tani. Community service methods was using counseling and educational methods, along with training in seedling cultivation skills, followed by assistance in seedling care. A series of activities carried out include: 1) Increasing financial literacy to Women Farmers so that in the future they can face crises if crop failure recurs in the future; 2) Empowerment of farm women in terms of producing rootstocks (durian seedlings from seeds) for side income of Farm Women during the service activities; 3) Grafting training with rootstocks that have been produced and the scion comes from the local durian of each farmer's garden; The results of the activity are introduction people about financial literacy for the target group; Increased skills in the form of the ability to produce seeds independently; As well as the formation of a community with one of the inventories in the form of a planting hole maker that can be rented out to durian farmers in Songgon Village. However, this service has not been able to increase the income of farm women directly because there has been no sale of the seeds produced, but institutional initiation in marketing seeds has been carried out.

Abstract

Red chili consumption in Indonesia is recorded to increase by 6.78% or 40.42 thousand tons in 2024 from 1,650.75 thousand tons in 2022, while productivity in 2025 is projected to increase by 6.78%, while chili productivity in 2024 is 1,386.45 thousand tons. 37% of the land area in the Kesambi Sub-watershed is marginal and has potential for horticultural cultivation. The research aims to align land and chili cultivation management on the slopes of Mount Raung, Indonesia, toward sustainable agriculture and national food self-sufficiency. The method used is through data collection, both laboratory data and land biophysical data that are adjusted to match the suitability with plant growth requirements. The results of the study showed that the actual land suitability of red chili plants at 78.87% or 2,558.48 ha was dominated by the marginally suitable class (S3), and 21.13% or 685.58 ha were in the unsuitable category (N), with the most inhibiting factors being erosion hazards, nutrient retention, and air availability. Efforts to improve land quality to produce optimal production for crop achievement through the addition of agricultural fertilizers such as NPK, the provision of organic matter and dolomite, and slope improvement by making “gulud” terraces or providing mulch so that the potential land was achieved to 67.11% or 2,177.01 ha dominated by class S3, 21.13% or 685.58 ha were categorized as unsuitable class (N), and 11.76% or 381.47 ha were categorized as quite suitable class (S2).
