Abstract

This study aims to determine and analyze the development of gender inequality. In addition, to determine the conditions and effects of life expectancy, average length of schooling, and adjusted per capita expenditure on gender inequality in provinces on the island of Sumatra. This study applies quantitative analysis, namely panel data regression analysis with a period of 2017-2022 and 10 provinces on the island of Sumatra. The results of this study explain that the dynamics of gender inequality fluctuate every year. The highest Gender Inequality Index value is in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province at 0.587 while the lowest is in the Riau Islands Province at 0.330. The Riau Islands Province has the highest average development while the lowest average development is Lampung Province. Partially, the variables of life expectancy and average length of schooling do not affect gender inequality. While the adjusted per capita expenditure variable affects gender inequality.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the trends and the simultaneous and partial influence of Population, Economic Growth, and the Provincial Minimum Wage (UMP) on the Unemployment Rate across Sumatera Island for the period 2006 to 2024. A quantitative approach was employed using panel data analysis (combining time series and cross-section data) covering 10 provinces in Sumatera Island. Secondary data was sourced from the official publications of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). Based on the Chow and Hausman test results, the Fixed Effect Model (FEM) was selected as the appropriate estimation model. The F-test results indicate that Population, Economic Growth, and UMP simultaneously have a significant influence on the Unemployment Rate in Sumatera Island. The t-test (partial) revealed the following findings: (1) Population was found to have a negative and significant effect on the Unemployment Rate, suggesting that population growth alleviates pressure on the labor market. (2) Economic Growth had a negative and significant effect on the Unemployment Rate, supporting the theory that increased production absorbs more labor. (3) Provincial Minimum Wage (UMP) was also found to have a negative and significant effect on the Unemployment Rate. This contradicts classical theory but is explained by the push for higher labor participation and increased regional purchasing power.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the farming conditions and value chain of pineapple commodities in Bangkit Baru Village. The focus of this research includes farmer characteristics, production patterns, distribution channels, and strategies to improve the competitiveness of pineapple commodities through the value chain approach and SWOT analysis. This study uses a qualitative method with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation involving farmers, collectors, and marketing actors. The results of the study show that most pineapple farmers in Bangkit Baru Village are male, with the majority having a senior high school (SMA) educational background. Land ownership and production outputs are fully privately owned, and farming management systems are still simple and largely depend on family labor. The average farming experience ranges from 10 to 20 years, with the dominant land area owned being 1 hectare. Production costs range from Rp1.000.000 to Rp5,000.000 per planting season, while the selling price of pineapple ranges from Rp3.500 to Rp5.000 per kilogram. The pineapple value chain shows a relatively stable marketing pattern, with established relationships between farmers, collectors, traders in local and external markets, and final consumers. However, product improvement strategies are still considered less aggressive, as there are several weaknesses that may become threats, such as rat pests and unpredictable weather conditions that hinder the production process.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors that influence the income of market traders at Talang Banjar Market, Jambi City, and to formulate income improvement strategies through SWOT analysis. The research employed a quantitative method with data collected through questionnaires and interviews with market traders. The data were analyzed using multiple regression analysis with the assistance of Eviews software, as well as SWOT analysis to formulate business development strategies. The results of the study show that the variables of capital, labor, and working hours have a significant effect on traders’ income, while the type of merchandise has no significant effect. Based on the SWOT analysis, the position of traders at Talang Banjar Market is located in Quadrant I, which indicates that the appropriate strategy to apply is an aggressive (S-O) strategy. This strategy emphasizes the utilization of internal strengths—such as product quality, competitive pricing, and customer service—to seize external opportunities, including government policies and broad market potential.

Abstract

In the contemporary digital economy, entrepreneurial development has become a crucial factor in strengthening national competitiveness. Higher education institutions are therefore expected to cultivate entrepreneurial capacity among students, particularly those from Generation Z, who face increasingly dynamic economic challenges. This study aims to analyze the effects of financial literacy, financial inclusion, and demographic factors on entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial intention. The study employed a quantitative approach using survey data collected from students of the Faculty of Economics and Business at Universitas Jambi. The data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling with the Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) method. The results indicate that financial inclusion has a significant positive effect on both entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial intention, while demographic factors significantly influence entrepreneurship but do not directly affect entrepreneurial intention. Entrepreneurship itself exerts a strong, significant effect on entrepreneurial intention, suggesting that entrepreneurial engagement serves as the primary pathway through which background characteristics and access to financial services are translated into entrepreneurial intention. In contrast, financial literacy does not show a significant direct effect on either entrepreneurship or entrepreneurial intention. These findings highlight that access to financial services and experiential entrepreneurial engagement are more decisive than financial knowledge alone in fostering entrepreneurial intention among Generation Z students, implying that universities should prioritize practice-based entrepreneurship education supported by inclusive financial access.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the socio-economic characteristics of farmers and examine the influence of land area, selling price of Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFB), plant age, and production costs on production volume and its impact on oil palm farming income in Suko Awin Jaya Village, Sekernan District, Muaro Jambi Regency. The analysis methods used include descriptive analysis and quantitative analysis using the Multiple Linear Regression model, complemented by classical assumption tests and hypothesis testing (F-test and t-test). The results showed that simultaneously, all independent variables had a significant effect on production volume with a coefficient of determination (R 2) of 0.836550, meaning these variables explain 84% of the production variation. Partially, land area and production costs have a positive and significant influence on production volume. Conversely, the plant age variable has a negative and significant effect, indicating that older plants tend to have declining productivity. The average income of farmers in the study location reached IDR 12,780,474 per month, indicating that this farming business is financially viable as it is well above the minimum wage standard of Jambi Province.
