Abstract

Abstract:  Geography education currently faces various challenges, including limited access to technology, inadequate teacher training, and the dominance of traditional teaching methods that hinder the optimal development of geographical competencies. This study aims to identify the challenges and explore the potential for developing geo-capabilities among geography teachers in East Java under such limitations. A qualitative case study approach was employed, involving 20 geography teachers from different schools as participants. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis. The findings reveal that geo-capabilities encompass the ability to integrate geographical knowledge with digital technologies, which enhances spatial data analysis, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Key supporting factors include continuous professional development, availability of digital resources, administrative support from schools, and collaborative teacher networks. Despite existing constraints, this study recommends the implementation of ongoing technical training, curriculum integration of digital tools, and strengthened teacher collaboration to improve geography learning outcomes and better prepare students to meet 21st-century challenges.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the concept of family resilience from an Islamic perspective based on the Qur'an and Hadith and evaluate its relevance to modern Muslim family life. Islam emphasizes the importance of values such as taqwa (piety), tawakkal (trust in Allah), ṣabr (patience), gratitude, and raḥmah (compassion) in building a strong and harmonious family. This research employs a qualitative approach with library research methods. Primary sources include the Qur'an, authentic Hadith, and tafsir, complemented by secondary literature such as academic journals and books on Islamic family jurisprudence. Thematic interpretation methods were used to identify key Islamic values relevant to family resilience. The findings reveal that Muslim families applying Islamic principles such as open communication (shura), patience, and gratitude are better equipped to face modern challenges, including economic pressures, family conflicts, and technological influences. Religious education also plays a vital role in shaping resilient generations capable of adapting to changes without losing spiritual identity. In conclusion, family resilience in Islam not only provides spiritual guidance but also practical solutions to contemporary challenges. Integrating Islamic values into modern life practices can create harmonious, stable, and resilient families.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the scientific literacy skills of students at Malang State University based on gender, year of study, and study program. The research method uses quantitative description. The sampling technique uses purposive random sampling. The population of the study is S1 students at Universitas Negeri Malang who are pursuing education programs. The sample consists of 208 students, divided into 62 males and 146 females. The data collected includes the results of scientific literacy tests using the TOSLS (Test of Scientific Literacy Skills) instrument and demographic data from the respondents obtained through questionnaires. The test instrument is divided into nine indicators of scientific literacy, including the ability to identify scientific concepts, evaluate the validity of sources, and interpret graphs. Data analysis was conducted using the KR20 reliability test, Shapiro-Wilk normality test, and non-parametric analysis such as Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis. The results of the study showed that the average level of success in questions was 73.37%, based on gender, with details of male respondents with a score of 74.38% and female respondents with a score of 72.36%. The level of scientific literacy of students based on the year of study in working on questions decreased from the first year to the third year (first year = 37%; second year = 46%; third year = 17%). There was a difference in the level of success in completing questions statistically based on the study program, which showed significance (H = 47.93; p <0.05). Geography education students' scores in solving test questions were second worst compared to students studying Biology, Physics, and Chemistry, so they had to do more science-based activities in each lecture activity.

Abstract

This study explores the family resilience of Indonesian migrant worker (PMI) households in the Mataraman region of East Java through the integration of Froma Walsh’s family resilience theory and Jamāl al-Dīn ʿAṭiyyah’s maqāṣid al-usrah framework. Labor migration has restructured families, often placing women as temporary heads of households, thereby reshaping gender roles and spiritual responsibilities. Employing a qualitative-descriptive approach, the research draws on 24 in-depth interviews and group observations with PMI families. Findings identify three dominant resilience patterns: (1) collaborative, characterized by faith-based role negotiation grounded in amanah and shūrā; (2) externally supported, sustained through religious and kinship networks such as pengajian and yasinan; and (3) independent, emphasizing spiritual discipline and digital intimacy as acts of worship. Values of tawakkul (trust in God), sabr (patience), and ikhtiar (effort) form the belief system that anchors emotional and moral endurance. Integrating Walsh’s framework with maqāṣid al-usrah reveals an Islamic model of resilience that unites psychological adaptability, social solidarity, and theological intentionality. Thus, family resilience in Mataraman represents not merely coping behavior but a conscious act of faith and the realization of maqāṣid within transnational Muslim family life.
