Abstract

Pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi guru melalui pelatihan model pembelajaran yang terintegrasi dengan kearifan lokal Sumatera Utara. Pelatihan ini diikuti oleh 20 guru SMA HKBP Nommensen Pematangsiantar dan berlangsung selama lima hari di Pematangsianatr. Metode pelatihan meliputi workshop, diskusi kelompok, dan simulasi kelas yang menekankan pada penggunaan elemen budaya lokal seperti ulos, cerita rakyat, dan sejarah lokal dalam pembelajaran. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata kompetensi guru meningkat dari 60% pada pre-test menjadi 90% pada post-test, mencerminkan peningkatan sebesar 30%. Selain itu, 90% guru mulai mengimplementasikan kearifan lokal dalam pembelajaran sehari-hari setelah mengikuti pelatihan. Meskipun demikian, beberapa kendala seperti kesulitan dalam memahami dan mengadaptasi kearifan lokal ke dalam kurikulum, serta keterbatasan waktu dan sumber daya masih dihadapi oleh para guru. Untuk memastikan keberlanjutan peningkatan kompetensi, direkomendasikan adanya pelatihan lanjutan, workshop berkala, dan pendampingan berkelanjutan. Hasil penelitian ini juga mengindikasikan bahwa pelatihan berbasis kearifan lokal sangat efektif dan harus dipertimbangkan dalam kebijakan pendidikan untuk meningkatkan kualitas pendidikan serta melestarikan budaya lokal.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh model Pembelajaran Berbasis Proyek menggunakan media audio-visual terhadap kemampuan menulis berita siswa kelas XI di SMA Swasta Teladan Pematangsiantar. Latar belakang penelitian ini adalah rendahnya kemampuan menulis berita siswa, yang disebabkan oleh kurangnya pemahaman tentang struktur dan aturan penulisan berita, seperti penempatan elemen 5W+1H. Siswa jarang berlatih menulis teks berita, sehingga kurang familiar dengan gaya dan format yang benar. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode pra-eksperimental dan desain pretest-posttest satu kelompok. Sampel terdiri dari 40 siswa kelas XI-5, yang dipilih menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah tes menulis berita sebelum dan sesudah implementasi model pembelajaran berbasis proyek menggunakan media audio-visual. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan peningkatan yang signifikan pada kemampuan menulis berita siswa setelah implementasi model pembelajaran berbasis proyek menggunakan media audio-visual, yang dibuktikan dengan perbedaan skor pre-test dan post-test. Media audio-visual telah terbukti efektif dalam meningkatkan aspek-aspek penting penulisan berita. Dengan demikian, model pembelajaran berbasis proyek yang menggunakan media audio-visual dapat menjadi alternatif pembelajaran inovatif untuk meningkatkan keterampilan menulis siswa

Abstract

This study aims to determine the Analysis of the Philosophical Meaning of Boraspati as a Cultural Symbol of the Batak Simalungun Community (Semiotic Study). Based on the results of research conducted by researchers regarding the Boraspati symbol in the culture of the Batak Simalungun community reviewed from the semiotic study of Charles Sanders Peirce, it can be concluded that Boraspati is a traditional symbol that has a deep philosophical meaning and does not merely function as an ornament or visual decoration. The Boraspati symbol represents the outlook on life, belief system, and social structure of the Simalungun community which is full of local wisdom values. Through a semiotic approach, Boraspati is understood as a cultural sign that contains moral and spiritual messages, which depicts a harmonious relationship between humans, nature, and the Creator. The results of this study indicate that each symbolic element in Boraspati reflects the ethics of life, social order, and cultural identity of the Simalungun community which is passed down from generation to generation

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji makna semantik dan fungsi sosial linguistik umpasa yang digunakan dalam prosesi adat saurmatua masyarakat Batak Toba. Kajian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh pentingnya peran bahasa sebagai media ekspresi budaya dan pewarisan nilai-nilai tradisional. Penelitian menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan semantik dan analisis konteks budaya. Data diperoleh melalui dokumentasi teks umpasa dan wawancara dengan tokoh adat Batak Toba.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa umpasa dalam upacara saurmatua mengandung makna konotatif dan simbolik yang mencerminkan nilai-nilai kehidupan, doa, dan penghormatan kepada orang yang telah mencapai kesempurnaan hidup (saurmatua). Secara linguistik sosial, umpasa berfungsi sebagai sarana penyampaian pesan moral, penguatan solidaritas sosial, serta media komunikasi estetis yang mempererat hubungan kekerabatan. Dari sisi kebudayaan, umpasa memperlihatkan keterkaitan erat antara bahasa dan adat Batak Toba, terutama dalam menjaga prinsip dalihan na tolu, nilai penghormatan kepada leluhur, serta pandangan hidup mengenai kehidupan dan kematian.Kesimpulannya, umpasa dalam prosesi saurmatua tidak hanya memiliki makna semantik yang mendalam, tetapi juga berperan penting sebagai wahana pelestarian identitas dan nilai-nilai budaya masyarakat Batak Toba yang tetap relevan di tengah arus modernisasi.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the construction of news coverage on the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program in Kompas.com and HarianSIB.com using Teun A. van Dijk’s Critical Discourse Analysis model, which includes the dimensions of text structure, social cognition, and social context. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method with data in the form of news texts published between 2025–2026 and in-depth interviews with journalists. The findings show that, at the textual level, both media construct discourse through macrostructure, superstructure, and microstructure, but with different emphases. Kompas.com tends to highlight institutional clarification, administrative aspects, and government perspectives, while HarianSIB.com emphasizes the impact of events, such as poisoning cases and victims’ conditions. At the level of social cognition, journalists in both media adhere to verification and journalistic ethics; however, Kompas.com relies more on official sources, whereas HarianSIB.com is more influenced by field conditions. In the social context dimension, news discourse is dominated by institutional actors who have power and access in shaping meaning. This study reveals that the media not only convey information but also actively construct reality through different framing strategies, which in turn influence public perceptions of the MBG program.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze speech acts in the dialogue of the film Komang directed by Naya Anindita using a pragmatic approach, particularly J.L. Austin’s theory. The focus includes three types of speech acts: locutionary, illocutionary, and perlocutionary acts. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through observation and documentation of the film’s dialogues.The results show that the film contains various speech acts reflecting language use in social interaction. Locutionary acts convey information, illocutionary acts express intentions such as requesting and expressing feelings, and perlocutionary acts produce effects on the hearer. These speech acts contribute to the development of the storyline, characterization, and relationships between characters.Thus, language in the film functions not only as communication but also as social action with meaning and impact.

Abstract

This study examines the construction of online news discourse on the closure issue of PT. Toba Pulp Lestari (TPL) in North Sumatra as reported by Detik.com and Kompas.com. The research problem focuses on how online media represent social conflict, environmental damage, indigenous communities, corporations, and government roles through news texts. This study aims to describe textual representation, discursive practice, and social practice using Norman Fairclough’s critical discourse analysis model. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method, with data consisting of four online news texts supported by interviews and documentation. The data were analyzed through reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The results show that indigenous communities are dominantly represented as victims of injustice, land dispossession, and ecological damage, while PT. TPL is represented as a corporation associated with agrarian conflict. Detik.com tends to provide space for contesting statements between civil society, government, and the company, whereas Kompas.com more strongly highlights public pressure, moral voices, and the policy process. The news discourse also constructs a contestation of meaning among society, corporations, and the state.

Abstract

 This study aims to determine the effect of the Project-Based Learning model on students' scientific writing ability in class XI-1 of SMA Negeri 3 Pematangsiantar. The background of the study was the students' difficulty in organizing scientific paper structure, developing ideas, using formal academic language, and applying spelling and punctuation accurately. This research used a quantitative experimental approach with a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The sample consisted of 36 students selected through purposive sampling. The research instrument was a scientific paper writing test assessed through five aspects: structure and systematics, content development and material accuracy, use of standard language, spelling and punctuation accuracy, and writing neatness. Data were analyzed by calculating the mean score, percentage of each assessment aspect, and normalized gain (N-Gain). The results showed that the average pre-test score was 67.92, while the average post-test score increased to 84.44. The average N-Gain score was 0.49356, categorized as moderate, and the N-Gain percentage was 49.35596%, categorized as less effective. These findings indicate that Project-Based Learning has a positive effect on students' scientific writing ability, although its implementation still needs to be optimized through better time management, intensive teacher guidance, clear writing examples, and continuous writing practice.
