Abstract

Introductions: Medical students are required to lifelong learning.  Electroencephalog-raphy is a neuroscience tool that can be used to record brain wave activity related to a person's cognitive function. Objective: This study was conducted to see the relationship between self-regulated learning and cognitive function with quantitative electroencepha-logram (qEEG) parameters. Methods: This study used an observa-tional analytic approach to assess self-regulated learning and cog-nitive function using the MSLQ and MoCA-INA questionnaires. qEEG recording to see brain wave activity was done when the eyes were open and closed and seen in alpha and beta waves. The sam-ple of this study amounted to 32 respondents who were willing to carry out each research procedure.  Results: The study findings reveal a significant correlation between SRL and qEEG parameters. In the open-eye condition, such a correla-tion exists in the frontal and central regions with regard to alpha waves (P = 0.046 and P = 0.047). In contrast, in the closed-eye condition, it exists in the occipital, central, and parietal regions with alpha waves (P = 0.005, P = 0.021, and P = 0.049) and the central region with beta waves (P = 0.030). There is a significant correla-tion between cognitive function and qEEG parameters observed in both open and closed-eye conditions within the frontal region beta waves (P = 0.024, P = 0.044, and P = 0.021). Conclusions: There is a relationship between SRL and cognitive function with alpha and beta wave activity on qEEG recording.

Abstract

Background: Depression is a mood disorder that causes distress and affects feelings, thought, and daily activities. Medical students belong to a group that is prone to depression. The high incidence of depression in medical students is caused by stressors in study loads and busy schedules, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. COVID-19 affects mental health, including a significant increase in depression rates because everyone must adapt to constantly changing situations. Therefore, medical students need the role of spirituality and resilience as protective factors from the occurrence of depression which also allows medical students to rise when faced with difficulties. This study aimed to determine the relationship between spirituality and resilience with the level of depression in medical students. Methods: This research was an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional approach. The research sample was 246 respondents by using the Daily Spiritual Experience Scale (DSES), Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC), and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II) questionnaires. Results: From the results of this study, it was found that the prevalence of depression in respondents was 39%. The bivariate analysis using the Chi-Square test showed a relationship between spirituality with a level of depression (p=0.000) and resilience with a level of depression (p=0.000).Conclusion: The results indicated that there is a significant relationship between spirituality and resilience with a level of depression in medical students. The higher spirituality and resilience, the lower depression level and vice versa. The lower spirituality and resilience, the higher depression level.

Abstract

The development of cognitive abilities is closely related to children's academic achievement and behavioral issues. Children prefer media that use visual and auditory elements to optimize their attention. Therefore, media are needed to enhance attention and memory, thus improving their understanding of lessons and impacting academic performance. This study aims to validate SiPETA as a digital cognitive remediation therapy for children to enhance learning abilities. SiPETA was developed based on a prototype of learning methods focused on Attention, Memory, and Self-Regulation. The platform contains social intelligence stories based on Bloom's taxonomy, categorizing cognitive abilities into six levels. The research method includes three stages. In the first stage, face validity was tested by 13 experts in child development and special education who evaluated the platform's narratives using the Delphi method. In the second stage, content and construct validity of SiPETA were tested by experts using the Lawshe method. In the third stage, the usability of the SiPETA application was tested on 12 elementary school children using the Lawshe method. The results showed that SiPETA is valid, reliable, and ready for training. SiPETA can be a valuable tool for teachers and parents to help children develop cognitive skills and improve academic achievement.

Abstract

Effective work performance is driven by motivation, emotional regulation, and the ability to build social relationships, which collectively influence professional outcomes. Quantitative electroencephalography (qEEG) offers an objective measure of brain activity related to these factors, providing insights into the neural mechanisms underlying workplace behavior.  This study is an exploratory pilot investigation of associations between quantitative EEG (qEEG) parameters at left DLPFC (Fp1) and workplace-relevant functions (emotional regulation, motivation, social relations) assessed with selected MMPI-180 subscales. Brain activity was recorded at the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (Fp1), focusing on Theta, Alpha, and Beta power. Data were collected from 68 employees in Indonesia over two months and analyzed using linear regression in SPSS 23. Results showed that Beta power at Fp1 significantly predicted emotional regulation (B = 6.85, p = .04, R² = 6.4%), Alpha power at Fp1 predicted motivation (B = 6.02, p = .048, R² = 5.8%), and Theta power at Fp1 predicted social relationship skills (B = 14.15, p = .006, R² = 16.3%). These findings provide empirical evidence that specific brainwave activities are linked to different aspects of workplace performance. The contribution of this study lies in demonstrating the applicability of qEEG as an objective tool to evaluate employee performance, offering new insights for neuroscience-based organizational interventions in the Indonesian context.
