Abstract

Fast disintegrating tablet is one of advanced pharmaceutical technologies. Fast disintegrating tablets is a tablet when placed on the tongue will be instantly disintegrated and releases the drug with the help of saliva. This technology can solve the problem of using oral drug in patients such as pediatrics, geriatrics or in circumstances where the patient can not swallow tablets conventionally with the help of water. The purpose of this study was to optimize the speed of disintegration in fast disintegrating tablet formulations both with varying concentrations of sodium starch glycolate. Optimization the speed of disintegration was done by using sodium starch glycolate with concentration of 8%, 12% and 16% and then disintegration time was tested. After the optimum speed decided, the next step was optimizing the taste using various manitol concentration of 32%, 36% and 40% and evaluation of the taste was conducted by using hedonity test and analyzed with SPSS prog. Disintegration of good fast disintegrating tablet was 27 ± 1 second. The best disintegration time was achieved in tablet using sodium starch glycolate of 16%.

Abstract

Acne vulgaris is an inflammatory disorder of pilosebaceous glands caused by an increase in sebum production, abnormal follicle keratinization, and colonization of positive gram P. acnes and S. epidermidis bacteria. Clindamycin antibiotic resistance has been reported because it is used to bacteria that cause acne vulgaris. Garlic extract has antimicrobial properties called allicin. This study aimed to determine the in vitro antimicrobial effectiveness of garlic extract in the growth of P. acnes and S. epidermidis. The samples of this study are garlic extract. This study was a true experimental study conducted using disc diffusion method with Mueller Hinton Agar. The zone of inhibition was observed on all groups of P. acnes and S. epidermidis in all tested concentrations with allicin concentration of 256µg/ml showing the widest zone of inhibition. Statistical analysis using the One- Way ANOVA resulted in (p)<0.005. Conclusively, garlic extract was effective in inhibiting the growth of P. acnes and S. epidermidis.

Abstract

Corrosion of API 5L Grade B steel is a common challenge in industries where the material is exposed to corrosive environments, such as saline solutions. To combat this issue, corrosion inhibitors are often used to protect the steel. This study explores the effectiveness of two inhibitors—Triethanolamine (TEA) and Cocamide DEA (CDEA)—in reducing corrosion on API 5L Grade B steel. By calculating the corrosion rate and inhibitor efficiency, we evaluated the protective properties of each substance. The results showed that TEA provided better corrosion protection, with a corrosion rate of 0.00045 mpy, compared to CDEA’s rate of 0.0009 mpy. Additionally, TEA demonstrated a higher inhibitor efficiency of 70.97%, while CDEA showed only 41.94%. These findings suggest that TEA is a more effective choice for preventing corrosion in API 5L Grade B steel, offering a viable solution to enhance the material’s durability in harsh environments.

Abstract

Cosmetics are one of the products to improve appearance which are increasingly widely used in Indonesia. However, the large number of cosmetic uses is not in line with the quality. In recent years, Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan (BPOM) has noticed an increase in the spread of illegal cosmetics in Indonesia. Educational videos are one practical medium that can be used to promote the dangers of illicit cosmetics. This community service program aims to increase public understanding of the dangers of illegal cosmetics circulating on the market. Community service activities are created by creating educational materials and videos that are disseminated to the public directly or via social media. So that through this educational video, the public can understand it well. The activities then looked at the public's initial level of understanding of the dangers of cosmetics by conducting a pre-test. After that, the videos and materials that had been prepared were shown, and then the public's knowledge increased through the post-test. From the results of the pre-test and post-test, it was found that public understanding of the dangers of cosmetics increased by 17.1%. So it can be concluded that this service activity successfully educated the community.

Abstract

The electric current magnitude is a fundamental parameter that directly affects penetration characteristics and weld bead geometry. This study analyzes the effect of current variations on physical and mechanical properties in the cladding process using the Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) method. The materials used are low-carbon steel and HV-600 electrodes with a diameter of 3.2 mm. The SMAW method was applied with current variations of 100 A, 120 A, 140 A, and 160 A. The tests carried out were NDT liquid penetrant, macro structure, micro structure and Vickers hardness. The results indicate a positive correlation between increasing current and hardness values in the weld area, with the highest hardness recorded at 665.803 HVN at 160 A and the lowest at 515.143 HVN at 100 A. Meanwhile, in the Heat Affected Zone (HAZ), a non-linear pattern was observed, with a maximum hardness of 263.237 HVN at 120 A and a minimum of 219.110 HVN at 140 A. Microstructural analysis revealed the formation of ferrite, pearlite, bainite, and martensite phases in the weld area, providing insights into optimizing welding parameters to enhance the mechanical properties of low-carbon steel cladding.

Abstract

Corrosion in flowline pipes represents one of the critical challenges frequently encountered in the oil and gas industry, particularly within fluid transportation systems in the upstream sector. This issue significantly compromises material performance, incurs substantial economic losses, and poses serious occupational safety risks. Carbon steel, commonly used in flowline pipes, is highly susceptible to corrosion due to exposure to aggressive environments, including high humidity, formation water, and corrosive gases such as H₂S and CO₂. In line with the growing demands for infrastructure reliability and compliance with safety standards, effective corrosion mitigation has become increasingly urgent. The degradation of pipe integrity due to corrosion can jeopardize the long-term reliability of fluid transport systems, potentially leading to severe operational disruptions and escalating maintenance costs. This study aims to investigate the primary causes of corrosion and evaluate the effectiveness of applied mitigation strategies on flowline pipes at a production facility. The methods examined include the application of protective surface coatings and the use of wrapping systems to inhibit direct contact between the metal and corrosive agents. Additionally, pipe wall thickness measurements were conducted to estimate the remaining service life of the flowline system based on the extent of corrosion-induced degradation. The findings of this study are expected to offer technically sound and practically applicable recommendations for corrosion control, thereby enhancing operational reliability and contributing to the sustainable performance of oil and gas infrastructure.

Abstract

This study aims to optimize the yield of MHR powder because the research conducted by Shah and Patel in 2010 was still very small, namely around 8%. Optimization was carried out by varying the soaking and heating times and then characterizing the MHR powder to test whether the MHR powder was a good candidate as a tablet binder. Characterization tests performed were organoleptic tests, particle size distribution, polysaccharide identification, swelling ratio, solubility, flow properties, viscosity, and water content. The most optimal MHR powder recovery was 1 hour of soaking time and 6 hours of heating time with a yield of 11.50 ± 1.40%. The results of the characterization of the MHR powder included: organoleptic test of the MHR powder was light brown, had a distinctive herbal odor and was tasteless, the particle size distribution test was in the range of 100-400 microns with the highest percentage of particles in the size of 186 μm, the swelling ratio was at 23 .47 ± 0.41, positive polysaccharide identification test, solubility was at 0.000426 ± 0.000034, viscosity was at 4520 ± 1224.42. Broadly speaking, MHR powder is a potential candidate as a tablet binder, that was proved from tablet formulation using MHR powder as binder resulted hardness, friability and disintegration time as well as formulation that using Avicel PH102 as binder.
