Abstract

Abstract

Physical education plays an important role in developing physical health, motor skills, and character building of students. However, the challenge in increasing interest and learning achievement in this subject is still the main focus, especially in the era of education 5.0 which demands an innovative approach. This study aims to explore the role of game-based learning in increasing interest and learning achievement in physical education in the era of 5.0. The research method used is a quasi-experiment with a pre-post test and control group design. The research sample consisted of two classes with 30 students each, one class as an experimental group that received game-based learning, and one class as a control group that received conventional learning. Data were collected through an initial interest test, a learning achievement test, and a questionnaire on students' interest in learning. The results showed a significant increase in the interest and learning achievement of students who participated in game-based learning compared to the control group. Students involved in game-based learning showed higher interest in the subject matter and achieved better learning achievement in terms of motor skills, conceptual understanding, and active participation. In addition, the student interest questionnaire showed that game-based learning provides a more interesting and enjoyable learning experience for students. These findings indicate that game-based learning has great potential in increasing interest and achievement in physical education learning in the 5.0 era.

Abstract

The study investigates how structured workout sessions influence the productivity of students in completing a thesis as the final assignment in the bachelor's degree. Eigh-semester students from the Physical Education study program participated, with one group engaging in a 30-minute workout over eight sessions and a control group of 15 students not participating in these sessions. Using observation and monitoring tools, the study assessed the impact of these workouts on thesis preparation. Regression analysis showed a determination coefficient (R') of 0.729, indicating that 72.9% of the productivity variance was due to the workout sessions. Additionally, a 32% increase in assignment progress was observed in the experimental group. These results demonstrate a strong correlation between regular workouts and increased productivity in completing final assignments, highlighting the benefits of incorporating physical activity into academic routines.

Abstract

Pelatihan karakter hendaknya dilakukan sedini mungkin.

Abstract

Low academic readiness and limited interest in pursuing higher education remain significant challenges among high school students in Malaka Regency, a border area in East Nusa Tenggara Province. This community service program aimed to strengthen students’ academic literacy and college preparedness through academic literacy training, career guidance, and interest–aptitude assessments based on Holland's RIASEC theory. The implementation involved needs assessment, contextual material development, interactive workshops, simulated college learning experiences, and evaluation using pre- and post-tests. Post-test results indicated a substantial improvement across all indicators, including understanding of the higher education system, academic reading skills, basic academic writing, career awareness, and students’ confidence to pursue college. Active student participation reflected the program's relevance and applicability to their context. Overall, the program had a positive impact on students’ knowledge, motivation, and ability to plan their academic future based on personal strengths and interests. Therefore, this initiative can be recommended as a replicable educational intervention model to support higher education access in other underdeveloped regions.

Abstract

This community service initiative aims to enhance the university’s Volleyball Student Activity Unit (UKM) through a collaborative coaching model involving sports lecturers and talented student athletes. The program was developed in response to the limited participation and low performance levels of collegiate sports particularly volleyball stemming from the scarcity of qualified coaches, structured training programs, and adequate practice facilities. The implementation adopts a participatory approach, beginning with an assessment of UKM needs, followed by training sessions on game strategies and tactics, improvement of fundamental physical and technical skills, and strengthening of UKM organisational management. Coaching activities are jointly conducted by sports lecturers and highly motivated students with strong volleyball capabilities. Evaluation is carried out through observations of technical skills, member engagement, and internal tournament results held after the coaching program. The findings indicate significant progress in student discipline, teamwork, and essential volleyball techniques such as serving, passing, smashing, and blocking. Additionally, UKM has experienced an increase in membership across faculties and the emergence of a more dynamic and sustainable organisational structure. Beyond improving student performance, this program contributes to shaping a replicable coaching model and reinforces a positive sports culture within the university. Overall, the development of the Volleyball UKM through the collaboration of sports lecturers and talented students has successfully fostered a competitive, productive, and sustainability-oriented sports ecosystem.

Abstract

Background. One of the most important factors enabling students to participate effectively in physical and artistic activities is physical fitness. In addition, practical activities can positively influence students' work habits in the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains. Objectives. The purpose of this study is to analyze the physical fitness profile of junior high school students in Indonesia and to identify factors that influence students' physical fitness levels. Methods. This study uses the PRISMA guidelines. Literature searches were conducted using several sources, including Google Scholar, books, Web of Science, and other relevant databases. The search process was carried out using the keywords physical fitness, junior high school students, and physical education. A total of 199 publications were identified through database searches (Google Scholar, PubMed, and ScienceDirect). After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, only nine articles met the eligibility requirements and were included in the final analysis. Results. The overall findings indicate that the physical fitness of junior high school students in Indonesia still faces significant challenges. Most students fall into the low to moderate physical fitness category, while only a small proportion achieve a good fitness level. Several studies show that creative learning interventions, such as traditional games, can effectively improve students’ physical fitness. In addition, environmental factors and physical activity outside of school also play an important role, although their effects may vary. Conclusion. Based on findings from reviewed journals, the level of physical fitness among junior high school students is still relatively low. This condition is indicated by the limited time allocated for physical education classes and the lack of regular sports activities among students. Therefore, the integration of traditional games into physical education at the junior high school level is important as an effort to improve students' physical fitness while preserving the nation's cultural heritage.

Abstract

Background Declining physical activity and increasing mental health problems among university students have become major public health concerns. Although outdoor recreation has been associated with physical and psychological benefits, evidence regarding the effectiveness of structured outbound recreation in improving both physical fitness and mental health among university students remains limited. Objectives This study aimed to examine the effect of outbound recreation on the physical fitness and mental health of fifth-semester students enrolled in the Physical Education. Methods This study employed an experimental method using a one-group pretest–posttest design involving all research participants. This study was conducted in the Physical Education, Health, and Recreation Program, Faculty of Teacher Education and Educational Sciences, Nusa Cendana University, with 38 students. Physical fitness was assessed using an appropriate standardized physical fitness test, while mental health was measured using a standardized questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics through a paired-samples t-test at a significance level of 0.05. Results The findings revealed that the outbound recreation program significantly improved the students' physical fitness and mental health (p = 0.000). Improvements in mental health were observed across several dimensions, including emotional well-being (75%), psychological well-being (73%), self-control (76%), and life satisfaction and happiness (77%), all of which were classified as being in the strong category. Meanwhile, the dimensions of social well-being as well as adaptation and resilience demonstrated improvements within the moderate category. These findings indicate that outbound recreation is an effective approach for enhancing both the physical fitness and mental health of university students. Conclusion Structured outbound recreation is an effective recreation-based learning strategy for enhancing university students' physical fitness and mental health. These findings provide empirical evidence supporting the integration of outdoor recreation into higher education programs to promote student well-being through experiential learning and physical activity.
