Abstract

Civic education plays a crucial role in fostering responsible citizenship and developing comprehensive civic competencies. In Indonesia, it holds a strategic position as a compulsory subject mandated by the government and implemented across all universities. This study aims to investigate the impact of Project Citizen Digital on students’ civic competency in higher education. Employing a quantitative approach, the research focuses on the implementation and evaluation stages of the ADDIE model following the development of the Project Citizen Digital application. A one-group pretest–posttest design was used to assess changes in students’ civic competency before and after the intervention. The study involved 480 undergraduate students from Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, consisting of 400 students in the first cohort and 80 students in the second. Data were analyzed using paired-sample statistical tests through SPSS. The findings indicate a statistically significant improvement in students’ civic competency after engaging in Project Citizen Digital-based learning. This is evidenced by a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000, which is lower than 0.025, leading to the rejection of the null hypothesis. The results confirm that the intervention produced a meaningful difference between pretest and posttest scores. Therefore, Project Citizen Digital demonstrates strong potential as an innovative and effective model for integrating digital technology with participatory civic learning in higher education.

Abstract

Pro-environmental values are crucial to instill in students to foster a generation that cares about the environment, promoting sustainability through education. Teachers play a central role in developing students' morals, encouraging responsible behavior and pro-environmental attitudes. This study explores pro-environmental values in ecology learning, focusing on ecosystem balance and the potential for more effective ecological education. Conducted at an elementary school in Subang Regency, West Java, it involved teachers and sixth-grade students. Using a qualitative case study approach, data was collected through observation, interviews, and discussions with 21 respondents, including principals, teachers, and students. Analysis followed stages of data collection, reduction, display, and conclusion. The study identified six key pro-environmental values taught: 1) environmental education, 2) energy-saving and renewable energy, 3) waste reduction, 4) anti-consumerism, 5) recycling, and 6) nature conservation. These values enhance students' capacity to act sustainably, fostering environmentally friendly behavior and responsible character. The findings underscore the importance of integrating pro-environmental values into ecological teaching to build environmentally conscious students. This study contributes to understanding how ecological learning materials can effectively promote sustainability, equipping teachers with tools to nurture environmentally aware future generations.

Abstract

This literature review aims to analyse the implementation of character education through the school curriculum. Character education is considered essential in shaping the morals, ethics and integrity of the younger generation. In this study, various relevant studies and literature were reviewed to understand how character education is integrated into the school curriculum and what factors influence its success. The findings show that a holistic approach that incorporates character values into all subjects and school activities is the most effective. Successful implementation also depends heavily on the readiness and commitment of teachers, as well as the support of school management and clear policies. Continuous evaluation and adaptation according to the needs and context of the school is key to ensuring the effectiveness of character education. Thus, collaboration between teachers, parents, and the community is very important in shaping students' responsible and principled character. This study helps provide insight into the importance of character education and how it can be effectively implemented in a school environment.
