Abstract

Speaking fluency is crucial for English competence, yet many English Education students still face speaking fluency difficulties despite completing speaking courses. This qualitative case study aimed to explore the forms of speaking fluency difficulties, their contributing factors, and students' coping strategies, involving 12 participants. Data were collected through open-ended questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. The findings revealed five forms of speaking fluency difficulties, influenced by thirteen factors and addressed through seven coping strategies. This research concludes that speaking fluency difficulties are multidimensional problems heavily rooted in linguistic deficits, highlighting the need for targeted instructional support to help students overcome these communication barriers.

Abstract

Vocabulary mastery plays an important role in supporting students' English language proficiency; however, evidence regarding the effectiveness of Vocabulary Journal among junior high school students remains limited. A Vocabulary Journal is a learning tool that encourages students to systematically record new words, their meanings, and example sentences to support vocabulary learning. This study aimed to investigate the effect of Vocabulary Journal on the vocabulary mastery of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 6 Palu. Employing a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group design, the study involved 72 students selected through cluster random sampling. Data were collected through vocabulary pre-tests and post-tests and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings revealed that the experimental group achieved a higher mean post-test score (66.32) than the control group (52.01). Since the data were not normally distributed, the Mann–Whitney U test was employed, yielding a significant difference between the groups (p = 0.002 0.05). Therefore, Vocabulary Journal can be considered an effective strategy for vocabulary instruction in EFL classrooms.

Abstract

Land use regulation and soil and water conservation techniques need to be intensified to minimize the impact of climate change, especially in controlling floods, erosion and landslides. The purpose of this service is to provide education to the public in efforts to mitigate the impact of climate change through environmentally friendly soil and water conservation technology. The method used in this service is a participatory educational and training method or educational and participatory approach with extension activities, training and technical guidance. The results of the service implementation have been carried out, namely: preparation, introduction of activities, implementation of counseling/training on the material: a) The benefits of increasing land productivity through soil and water conservation techniques and b) Introduction and several soil and water conservation techniques, namely vegetative techniques and terrace construction. the contours of the A frame model, in addition, an evaluation is carried out. Service activities provide benefits in increasing land productivity and assisting in planting arrangements according to contour lines and as a basis for making terraces.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out if using Cooperative Learning Strategy can improve students’ writing skills of grade ten students at Senior High School. The researcher applied quasi-experimental design with two classes, experimental class and control class. The experimental class consisted of 34 students and control class consisted of 35 students selected through cluster random sampling technique. In collecting data, the researcher administered pretest and posttest to both the experimental class and control class. The data were analyzed statistically in order to find out the significant difference of students’ achievement before and after treatments. Using 0.025 level of significance and 67 degrees of freedom (df), the researcher found that the value of t-table was 1.998, which was lower than the t-counted 3.57. It means that the hypothesis is accepted. In other words, using Cooperative Learning Strategy can improve students’ writing skills.
