Abstract

This study aims to analyze the concept of economic justice from a sharia perspective and explore its application as a solution to the increasing social inequality in society. Economic justice in Islam is a fundamental principle that emphasizes the fair distribution of resources, protection of vulnerable groups, and equal access to economic opportunities. To achieve these goals, this study uses the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, which is a structured and systematic approach to identifying, evaluating, and synthesizing scientific literature relevant to the research topic. This method is used to gain a comprehensive understanding of sharia principles such as monotheism, justice ('adl), balance (tawazun), and social responsibility that are the basis for creating a just economic system. The results of the study show that Islamic economic justice is realized through wealth distribution instruments such as zakat, infaq, shadaqah, and waqf, as well as the prohibition of exploitative economic practices such as usury, gharar, and maysir. The current social and economic inequality is caused by various structural factors, including uneven distribution of assets, educational inequality, and a discriminatory economic system. Therefore, the implementation of a sharia-based economic system is a relevant and applicable solution in overcoming social inequality. This approach has proven effective through the application of models such as Baitul Maal wat Tamwil (BMT), sharia cooperatives, and productive waqf, which are able to build an inclusive, sustainable, and equitable economic system. Thus, sharia economics is not only normative in value, but is also able to answer contemporary socio-economic challenges practically

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of Islamic economics in supporting sustainable economic development through the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. The SLR method is used to systematically identify, evaluate, and synthesize relevant literature on the contribution of Islamic economics to the sustainable development goals (SDGs). The review process begins with formulating the main research question, as well as establishing inclusion and exclusion criteria that include publications between 2020 and 2025, available in full-text form, and focusing on Islamic economics and sustainability issues. The results of the study show that Islamic economics is closely related to the principles of sustainability, such as justice, balance, social responsibility, and the prohibition of detrimental economic practices. Islamic economic instruments such as zakat, infaq, sedekah, waqf, and sharia-based financing play an important role in creating an inclusive, fair, and social welfare-oriented economic system. In addition, Islamic banks and Islamic social finance also encourage sustainable financing of the real sector and MSMEs, including through innovations such as green sukuk and productive waqf. Thus, sharia economics has proven to be a strategic and applicable framework in realizing fair, inclusive and sustainable economic development

Abstract

This article aims to describe and discuss (1) the phenomenon of religious extremism on the campus and (2) institutional responses of the state Islamic higher education to it in the form of (3) strengthening religious moderation through the revitalization of Ma‘had al-Jami‘ah (Pesantren of University). With a case study research design and the religious moderation concept of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia as a theoretical framework, this study found relatively the same facts about the phenomenon of religious extremism in the three state Islamic universities. Their institutional responses also tend to be similar; they rely on the belief that religious extremism harms the spirit of Islam’s raḥmatan li al-'ālamīn and the movement of extreme religious elements has threatened the integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia. The biggest difference is the way the three campuses foster moderate religiosity of students through the revitalization of Ma‘had al-Jami‘ah. However, the various strengthening strategies they do are relatively in line with the strategy of strengthening religious moderation of the Ministry and therefore have productive values for the national program. These results contribute to enriching the discourse on religious extremism and can also be used as a reference for state Islamic universities in strengthening the early warning system, especially through the revitalization of Ma‘had al-Jami‘ah.

Abstract

The Islamic revival in the 20th century gave rise to the discourse on the Islamization of knowledge as a response to the civilizational crisis caused by Western secular dominance. Isma'il Raji al-Faruqi proposed a systematic framework based on five principles of tawhid to reconstruct modern knowledge in accordance with the Islamic worldview. This article analyzes the relevance of al-Faruqi's thought for developing Islamic economics. Through library research and critical analysis of al-Faruqi's twelve-step work plan, the article finds that conventional economics is grounded in materialism, individualistic rationalism, and positivism, which contradict Islamic values of tawhid, khilafah, and justice. The findings indicate that the Islamization of economics requires mastery of modern economics, comprehension of Islamic intellectual heritage, and their synthesis to produce an alternative paradigm. In conclusion, al-Faruqi's thought holds strong methodological relevance for constructing a just and ethical Islamic economics.

Abstract

The economic contraction in the MSME (Micro Small and Medium Enterprises) sector during the Covid pandemic directly impacted financial business performance. On a micro scale, BMT (Baitul Maal wat Tamwil) as a sharia microfinance institution is affected by the weakening of economic activity in the MSME sector. This is understandable because in its activities, BMT makes MSMEs its business partners. From a business aspect, the impact experienced by BMT is the emergence of various risks; increasing problematic financing, liquidity and operational risks. The results of this qualitative research show that; Firstly, business risks that arise at BMT NU Jawa timur Balung Branch and BMT UGT Nusantara Rambipuji Jember include financing risk, operational risk and liquidity risk. Financing risk is characterized by a high number of problematic financing. Meanwhile, operational risks are characterized by restrictions on access to the office, physical distancing, and increased operational costs. Meanwhile, liquidity risk is characterized by an abundance of funds in cash. Second, risk management at BMT NU Jatim Balung Branch and BMT UGT Nusantara Rambipuji Jember is carried out sequentially starting from risk identification, measurement, analysis and control activities. Based on this process, tactical steps are then developed to handle each aspect of risk. Financing risks include financing moratorium steps, intensive collection, restructuring and creating reserves for losses. Operational risks are approached by the issuance of new rules regarding office operating systems and rules related to the implementation of Health procedures.

This study aims to analyze the micro-business financing provided by Baitul Maal wat Tamwil (BMT) Balung and its impact on increasing the business capital of its clients. Micro businesses, which are typically managed by small-scale entrepreneurs, often face difficulties in accessing formal financing. Therefore, BMT Balung, as a microfinance institution, plays an essential role in providing financing to support the sustainability and development of micro businesses. This research uses a quantitative approach with a descriptive analysis method to gather data from clients who have received financing from BMT Balung. The data were obtained through interviews and questionnaires from 50 respondents who are micro-business owners. The results of the study show that the financing provided by BMT Balung significantly increases the business capital of its clients. This financing positively influences the micro businesses' ability to expand production capacity, purchase raw materials, and improve product quality. Furthermore, it has a positive impact on income and the welfare of the entrepreneurs. However, challenges in repaying installments remain a concern for some clients. The conclusion of this study is that the financing provided by BMT Balung plays a strategic role in increasing micro-business capital and supporting business development.
