Abstract

Objectives: Odontogenic cysts are pathologic cavities filled with fluid originating from the odontogenic epithelium remnants forming teeth. Dentigerous and calcifying odontogenic cysts are examples of cysts that form during development. Based on how they form, they are one type of odontogenic cyst. Many lesions have similar characteristics, making it challenging to differentiate them. Case Report: An oral surgeon referred a 19-year-old male patient for a CBCT radiographic examination of the maxilla, which revealed a dentigerous cyst in the patient's clinical report. The patient's overall health was delicate. An intraoral examination revealed no edema, symmetrical, painless facial structure, and no clinical signs of periodontal disease nor dental caries. A panoramic radiograph showed a multilocular, well-defined, and corticated radiolucent lesion that made teeth 11–12 and 21–23 shifted. Conclusion: Clinical and imaging variables play essential roles in the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of odontogenic cysts. CBCT radiography could be a suitable modality for diagnosing odontogenic cysts, although histopathology is the gold standard for a definitive diagnosis.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Introduction: Tooth autotransplantation is a viable treatment option for replacing extracted permanent teeth that have been damaged due to caries, trauma, and malformations. This method offers a quick and economical solution when a donor tooth is available to replace a non-restorable tooth. The purpose of this case report is to present a unique case of mandibular third molar autotransplantation performed in a 15-year-old patient, with five-year radiographic and clinical follow-up. Case report: A 15-year-old female patient presented with her parents to the emergency room at Abdul Wahab Sjahranie Regional Hospital, complaining of an unbearable toothache following a previous dental filling. Intraoral examination revealed tooth 46 with a glass ionomer cement (GIC) restoration, a positive percussion test, and no history of swelling. An orthopantomogram (OPG) examination showed a radiolucent area at the apex of tooth 46. Impacted tooth 48 was observed with periodontal tissue in good condition and an incompletely formed root. Autotransplantation was performed using tooth 48 after the extraction of tooth 46. At the five-year follow-up appointment after treatment, tooth 48 remained stable and fully functional, with no complications, including mobility or infection. Conclusion: Tooth autotransplantation is an effective option for replacing missing teeth in young patients. Long-term success can be achieved with appropriate patient selection, atraumatic surgical technique, and careful postoperative care.KEYWORDSMandible, immature teeth, third molars, autotransplantation, extraction

Abstract

Periodontal disease is one of the ten biggest dental and oral problems in Indonesia. One of the preventive methods through habituation and independent behavior to prevent this disease. Behavior can persist if done routinely. The purpose of the community service was to provide education to cadres and increase the habituation of independent behavior in preventing the occurrence of periodontal disease starting from oneself. The methods used were counseling, simulation, examination, coaching and evaluation of cadre knowledge. Evaluation was done by pre and post test questionnaire. Pre and post examination also provide to assess the oral health status after 21 days of habituation. The results showed an increase in cadre knowledge before and after counseling by 20%. Meanwhile the examination didn’t provide any data due to zero participant were being assessed.

Abstract

The implementation of the Takhossus LPBA program at the Raudlatul Malikiyah Islamic Boarding School involves developing the Arabic language, teaching Arabic grammar rules, and implementing routine language activities. This program develops students' Arabic language skills, such as speaking, debating, hosting and delivering speeches. In addition, this research explains the history and teaching system of the program, and highlights the importance of nahwu and sharaf in learning Arabic to understand the structure and use of the language. The research methodology used is work analysis using primary and secondary data sources. The LPBA program in Islamic boarding schools is implemented through BANOM dirofiyah activities, which include routine Arabic language rules and sanctions for violators. This research aims to explore the implementation of the LPBA program in Islamic boarding schools using qualitative research methods. LPBA as a foreign language development institution encourages its members to speak Arabic every day to improve their language skills. Apart from that, Islamic boarding schools also implement the Takhassus LPBA program to deepen their knowledge of the Arabic language. Although the program faces challenges such as lack of student motivation resources, limited number of teachers, limited expertise, limited textbooks, teaching materials and multimedia resources, strategic steps have been taken to overcome these problems. Program evaluations are carried out periodically to ensure the effectiveness of activities. Keywords:  Takhossus; Arabic; Banom.

Abstract

Objectives: This study aimed to find out the correlation between the knowledge level of maxillary anatomical structures and the interpretation of panoramic radiographs among preclinical dentistry students at the University of Mulawarman. Materials and Methods: This quantitative research utilized a cross-sectional design. The employed sample technique was non-probability total sampling, focusing on preclinical dentistry students from the 2021–2022 academic year who had finished courses in panoramic radiograph interpretation. The data collection included two validated questionnaires: one measuring knowledge of maxillary anatomical components and the other testing the ability to interpret panoramic radiographs. The Spearman correlation test was employed for data analysis. Results: The findings revealed that 60.7% of students were classified as possessing a limited understanding of maxillary anatomical components, 73.8% had inadequate skills in reading panoramic radiographs, and 54.1% showed poor performance in both domains. The correlation test indicated a significant association between knowledge of maxillary anatomical structures and the interpretation of panoramic radiographs, with a Sig. (2-tailed) value of less than 0.001. Conclusion: A significant correlation exists between the knowledge level of maxillary anatomical structures and the interpretation of panoramic radiographs among preclinical dentistry students at Mulawarman University. Keywords: Knowledge level, maxillary anatomical structures, interpretation, panoramic radiography, preclinical students

Abstract

Objectives: Concrescence is a rare dental developmental anomaly where two fully formed teeth are fused by cementum. It often occurs in the maxillary posterior region and may lead to tooth impaction. This case report presents an incidental radiographic finding of a concrescence related to maxillary third molar (M3) impaction. Case Report: A 72-year-old woman presented with a panoramic radiograph referral for mandibular denture placement with a clinical diagnosis of missing teeth in the right and left mandibular regions. On the panoramic radiograph, the impacted root of tooth 28 was seen, fused with the root of tooth 27. Conclusion: Concrescence is a rare case of anomaly and can occur in an impacted M3 tooth, and Concrescence is suspected as the main cause of the tooth not being erupted/impacted.
