Abstract

This study looks at word acquisition and how phonology is developed in children aged 1 year 8 months. Using qualitative descriptive methodologies and observation devices on youngsters via direct observation. The results of the existing data suggest that a child aged 1 year 8 months generates 34 words, with the phonology or sounds produced remaining distant but understood. Children can now discuss their daily requirements. Aside from that, environmental and family factors influence children's cognitive ability in word acquisition. Children's language development is also influenced by their interactions with their parents.

Abstract

This study explores the use of language as a communication tool, highlighting its essential role in conveying ideas, emotions, and information. Language serves not only to transmit meaning but also to express the speaker's intentions through culturally influenced vocal symbols. The research delves into the acquisition of language skills, with a particular focus on syntax, which governs sentence structure. Applied linguistics covers areas such as language acquisition, teaching methodologies, cognitive processes, and social interactions, emphasizing its interdisciplinary scope. Mastering skills like listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar, and vocabulary is vital for effective communication. Despite the complexities in psycholinguistics and language pedagogy, systematic approaches aid in understanding and application. This research specifically investigates first language acquisition in a four-year-old child, Gadhing Danur Rendra, using qualitative descriptive methods. The study observes Gadhing's use of declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamative sentences, demonstrating his ability to share information, ask questions, make requests, and express feelings. The findings confirm that young children can master various sentence types, indicating healthy language development. This research enhances understanding of early language acquisition and highlights the importance of thorough language education methodologies.

By observing and recording children's verbal interactions over several weeks, the aim of this study was to capture the details of early language acquisition. This analysis focuses on pronunciation patterns, vocabulary growth, and the formation of syntactically correct sentences. Researchers noted that children showed significant progress in phonetic articulation, with marked improvements in clarity of consonant and vowel sounds. Syntactically, children show increasing ability to form simple sentences, use basic grammatical structures, and arrange words in the correct order. This research provides valuable insight into typical language development milestones in children of this age, emphasizing the importance of a supportive and interactive linguistic environment.

Abstract

This study examines language acquisition in early childhood, with a focus on Bebi, a 3-year-old bilingual child. The aim of this research is to understand the language acquisition process of Bebi, who is a bilingual child, and how he combines vocabulary from two different languages in everyday communication. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, with data collection through observation of daily interactions between children and their environment. The research results show that Bebi tends to simplify words that are difficult to pronounce and uses pronunciation patterns that are already familiar to her. Children also demonstrate a basic understanding of everyday concepts and objects. These findings suggest that bilingual environments can influence children's language development in unique ways, and that bilingual children can master both languages well if they get enough exposure.

Abstract

This study explores the influence of social media on cross-cultural communication among young adults, emphasizing its role in shaping cultural awareness, empathy, and identity. By analyzing data collected through questionnaires and semi-structured interviews with Indonesian young adults aged 18–30, the study uncovers the dual impact of social media. Platforms such as Instagram and TikTok are identified as key facilitators of cultural exchange, fostering understanding and reducing stereotypes through engaging multimedia content. Participants reported enhanced cultural awareness and empathy, often discovering new traditions and norms while gaining appreciation for their cultural heritage. However, challenges such as language barriers, misinterpretations, and stereotyping highlight the need for improved digital literacy. Employing a qualitative approach and thematic analysis, the study underscores the transformative potential of social media in bridging cultural divides. These findings suggest that responsible and informed use of social media can amplify its capacity as a medium for intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding.

Abstract

This study examines the narrative structure of Alice Walker's “The Color Purple” through the lens of Greimas' actant model. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to apply the narrative structure with Greimas' actant model to enable a comprehensive analysis of how the main character, Celie, experiences a journey of transformation from oppression to personal freedom using Greimas' actant theory. With this, the focus of the problems that arise in this study are: (1) what are the actant schemes that can be found in the novel “The Color Purple?” (2) How does the actant Greimas describe the journey of transformation of the main character in the novel “The Color Purple?” By using descriptive qualitative research method. Data collection in this study focuses on the novel “The Color Purple” by Alice Walker as the main data source. For data analysis, qualitative analysis is used, the process of which is carried out through the stages of data analysis, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The dynamic interaction between actants reflects the systemic nature of trauma and how liberation is built through family relationships, faith, and love. By mapping Celie's journey through Greimas' actant model, the novel “The Color Purple” is not only a personal narrative, but also a structurally complex story of transformation. Each actant role develops along with Celie, reflecting how freedom and identity are achieved not through isolation, but through enduring relationships, personal growth, and ultimately overcoming oppression.
