Abstract

Nutritional status reflects the adequacy of nutritional needs met through food and drink intake. Stunting is a complex nutritional issue influenced by various factors, including inadequate nutritional intake, poor environmental hygiene, and inappropriate feeding practices. This study aims to assess the nutritional status of children and identify the prevalence of stunting in Potronayan Village. The stunting screening method was employed to gather data on the toddler's age, height, weight, upper arm, and head circumference. The research involved 35 children aged 6 months to 4 years and 4 months. The results based on weight-for-age (W/A), height-for-age (H/A), and weight-for-height (W/H) indices indicate that 91% of the toddlers are of normal weight, while 3% are categorized as very underweight, underweight, or at risk of being overweight. For height-for-age, 77% of the toddlers are of normal height, 17% are classified as stunted, 6% as severely stunted, and none fall into the tall category. Regarding weight-for-height, 91% of the children are well-nourished, 3% are malnourished, 3% are at risk of over-nutrition, 3% are over-nourished, and there are no cases of obesity or severe malnutrition. These findings underscore the need for targeted interventions to address nutritional deficiencies and promote optimal growth and development among children in Potronayan Village.

Abstract

The SRQ-29 is a measurement tool developed by WHO for the early detection of mental health problems. However, no research has focused on the psychometric testing of the SRQ-29 instrument. This study aimed to investigate the psychometric properties of the Indonesian version of the Self-Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ-29) as a screening tool for the early detection of mental health problems in individuals who are university students. The original version of the scale was adapted and translated into Indonesian and tested for validity, reliability, and factor analysis among university students. The adaptation process followed the guidelines of the International Test Commission and included translation, expert review, cognitive interview, and psychometric evaluation. The participants who actively participated in this study were 323 students from various faculties of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS), selected using a convenience sampling technique. Data analysis to test content validity using Aiken's V analysis, construct validity using item factor analysis (IFA), and test reliability using Cronbach alpha. In general, the results showed that the measurement instrument has good validity and reliability, so it can be used in the population of university students in Indonesia to screen their mental health status.

Abstract

Introduction: In this study, we aimed to predict smoking intentions among Indonesian youth using the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) within the context of global tobacco use. Our objective was to examine how attitude toward smoking, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control shape youth smoking intentions, addressing gaps in prior Indonesian studies by leveraging nationally representative data and enhanced analytical methods. Methods: This cross-sectional study involved a secondary data analysis of the 2019 Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS) conducted across Indonesia. A total of 9,992 youth participants were enrolled, and data were collected through structured questionnaires. Results: The primary outcome of the study was cigarette smoking intention, and the structural equation modelling revealed a good model fit (SRMR = 0.018, RMSEA = 0.028, TLI = 0.986, and CFI = 0.994). All of the predictors were statistically significant in predicting youth smoking intentions. When compared to other TPB constructs, perceived behavioral control emerged as the strongest predictor (? = 0.223, p < .001), followed by attitude (? = –0.202, p < .001) and subjective norms (? = 0.091, p < .001). Past smoking behavior was also the strongest predictor (? = 0.241, p < .001). The model explained 29.7% of the variance in smoking intention. Individuals who had a positive attitude towards smoking, were exposed to smoking in both public and private spaces, and thought quitting was difficult were more likely to intend to smoke. Conclusion: In conclusion, our study contributes to the understanding of youth smoking behavior by applying the TPB in the Indonesian context. These findings highlight the importance of behaviorally informed tobacco control interventions that address young people's perceptions of control and attitudes towards smoking, as well as the value of school-based programs, media literacy campaigns, and peer education strategies tailored to Indonesian culture.

Abstract

Abstract

Stress is the most common problem experienced by people across ages and is associated with poor psychological and physical health. Stress is related to emotional and mental states that can be seen psychologically, namely relaxed and focused, also physiologically through the central nervous system (CNS) and autonomic nervous system (ANS), both sympathetic (SNS) and parasympathetic nervous systems (PNS). Salah, as obligatory Muslim worship, is a coping strategy beneficial for psychological and other aspects, such as physical and neurological health. Salah has a restorative effect, such as reducing mental fatigue and stress, as explained by attention restorative theory (ART) and stress restorative theory (SRT). Salah can reduce stress, psychologically and physiologically, indicated by an increment in PNS [nuHF of heart rate variability (HRV), galvanic skin responses (GSR), heart rate (HR), and blood pressure (BP) activity and a decrease in SNS (nuLF and LF/HF of HRV) also increase of alpha brainwave which part of the central nervous system (CNS). In terms of focus, concentration, and awareness, salah is perceived as giving the worshiper a better mental state. In addition, salah increases the gamma power, which is part of CNS and related to awareness. Interestingly, the relaxation effect of salah is higher in the prostration position; also, reciting the Holy Quran while doing salah has higher effects on focus and attention than mimic salah. Apart from the obligation of salah, the psychological and physiological benefits of salah should make a Muslim pray obediently, and the finding that reciting the Holy Quran ayah during salah and prostration has a higher effect shows that remembering Allah is vital.

Abstract

Worship practices have been found to contribute to mental health. Salah is an obligatory act of worship and has priority in Islam. The benefits of salah services are also studied about the movements carried out in salah. Even though the movements of salah can be seen, not all Muslims can do it well because of the lack of humility or solemnity in salah. This research aims to explain the dynamics of khushoo from the perspective of nafs from an Islamic psychology perspective and how to achieve a state of khushoo in salah. This research uses a literature review method from various scientific articles and books about khushoo. The research results show that khushoo is related to the mental stages of nafs al ammarah, nafs al lawwamah, and nafs al mutmainah. Further discussion regarding the dynamics of khushoo in the review salah of the three nafs is also discussed in this article. Several strategies for achieving khushoo in salah are briefly reviewed.
