Abstract

Background: In an increasingly competitive educational landscape, understanding students’ perceptions of service attributes has become essential. Educational institutions are not only expected to deliver academic knowledge but also to provide high-quality services that meet students’ expectations. Methods: This research employed a descriptive approach using questionnaires for data collection. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling with a total of 82 student respondents. The study was conducted at one of the vocational schools in West Lombok. Data were analyzed using frequency distribution analysis. Findings: The findings show that although the majority of educational service attributes were rated as good (e.g., teacher adequacy 57.3%, laboratory equipment 50%, computer facilities 42.7%), toilet facilities (rated not good or very bad by 23.2% of students) and education costs (perceived as expensive or very expensive by 37.8%) received the lowest satisfaction scores, highlighting critical service gaps that vary by gender and require targeted design improvements. Conclusion: The analysis results show that most educational service attributes such as teacher competence, number of educators, syllabus availability, learning facilities, and school infrastructure are rated as good. However, two attributes, namely toilet facilities and education costs, were perceived as less satisfactory by students. Novelty/Originality of this article: This study provides empirical contributions by identifying the educational service attributes that most influence student perceptions at the vocational high school level. The focus on evaluating toilet facilities and the cost structure of education offers concrete directions for improving service quality management.

Abstract

Background: As a developing country with a vast and diverse archipelago, Indonesia requires a greater number of high-quality human resources capable of competing both nationally and internationally. One such strategy is the expanded development of English language education to strengthen human resources. Foreign a significant challenge in the learning process is the limited availability of both formal and informal platforms for students to practice the language, which hampers their progress. For EFL learners, reading is essential for acquiring the language, expanding vocabulary, and gaining broader knowledge and experiences. Methods: The research was carried out with 25 second-year students from class XI Science 1 at MA Darul Muhajirin Praya. The research utilized a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design, implemented over two cycles. Each cycle consisted of four phases: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Data were gathered through tests, observation sheets, and documentation. Findings: The findings indicated a significant improvement in students' reading comprehension, marked by an average score increase of 8.97% from the pre-test to the second post-test. During the pre-test, only 1 student (4%) met the minimum passing standard (KKM), with an average score of 54.6. In the first post-test, 9 students (29.45%) achieved the passing score, with the average rising to 70.88. By the second post-test, 19 students (76%) had passed, with the average score reaching 77.24. Conclusion: This study concludes that applying skimming and scanning techniques greatly enhances students' reading comprehension. Incorporating these strategies into classroom English instruction effectively improves students' understanding of narrative texts, as evidenced by the findings of the action research. Novelty/Originality of this article: This study highlights the effectiveness of integrating skimming and scanning techniques into classroom English instruction for EFL learners. The novelty lies in demonstrating, through classroom action research, how these strategies significantly improve students’ comprehension of narrative texts in a measurable and systematic way.

Abstract

This study focuses on Islamic historiography in the classical period, which has significant significance for analysis. Historiography, as a method and framework for reconstructing history, plays a central role in laying the foundations for writing history. This study describes several main aspects, including the early period of the development of Islamic historiography and the transformation of Islamic history writing from time to time. This study uses the literature review method and thematic analysis. This analysis technique has three stages: compare, contrast, and criticize. The results of this study indicate that the historiography of the development of classical Islam includes studies of pre-Islamic Arab society, which became the initial foundation for the tradition of writing Islamic history. During this period, historiography was marked by the emergence of various genres, such as maghazi (stories of the Prophet Muhammad's wars), sirah (biography of the Prophet Muhammad), tarikh or akhbar (historical records and news), and nasab (genealogy). Along with the development of the era, this tradition began to be integrated with the methodology of dirayah (content criticism) and riwayah (sanad criticism) in compiling and verifying historical narratives. Geographically, Islamic historiography developed through various schools, such as the Yemeni school, the Medina school, and the Iraqi school, each of which had a different focus and approach to recording historical events. During the leadership of the Khulafaurrasyidin, Islamic historiography experienced significant progress, along with the emergence of more systematic reasoning patterns. In addition, philosophical thought, kalam science (rational theology), tasawuf (Islamic spirituality), and Fiqh (Islamic law) also enriched the intellectual dynamics of that period, making a major contribution to the development of Islamic science and civilization.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between conformity and compliance with regulations among students at the Al-Fath Islamic Boarding School in Kediri City. Islamic boarding schools, as Islamic educational institutions, emphasize cognitive aspects and foster attitudes, behaviour, and discipline through strict rules. Students' compliance with regulations is influenced by internal and external factors, one of which is conformity, namely the tendency to adjust to group norms. The method used in this study is quantitative with a positivist approach, with a population of 150 students. The sample used was 30 respondents because it was less than 1000, so it used a margin of error of 5%. Data collection used random sampling techniques, questionnaire instruments, and SPSS analysis. The results of the study showed: (1) student compliance was in the moderate category (34.7% or 52 respondents), (2) the level of conformity was also moderate (37.3% or 56 respondents), and (3) the correlation value was -0.319 with a significance of 0.00 <0.05. Thus, a significant negative relationship exists between conformity and students' compliance with regulations at the Al-Fath Islamic Boarding School in Kediri City. The Islamic boarding school leadership can provide facilities in the form of community activities to foster harmony between individuals and groups, create discussion spaces to provide a transparent understanding of the rules to the students, and develop mentoring programs to help students understand and adapt to the environment and rules established by the Islamic boarding school.

Abstract

Hermeneutics is a classic theme that remains relevant in Islamic scholarly discourse, particularly in the debate over its use in interpreting the Qur'an. There are three main views among Muslim scholars and ulama: those who reject it completely, those who accept it completely, and those who accept it with certain limitations. This debate is rooted in the origins of hermeneutics, a discipline developed by Western scholars to interpret biblical texts that raise issues of authority and authenticity. This study aims to explore the hermeneutic approach from a historical perspective through a literature study and thematic analysis, employing steps of comparison, contrast, and criticism. The results show that, from the perspective of Qur'anic interpretation, hermeneutics is viewed as a Western product originating from the Christian theological tradition and developed within a modern philosophical framework emphasizing the historicity and relativity of textual meaning. Therefore, this approach is not entirely in line with the principles of Islamic interpretation emphasizing the sanctity, absolute authority, and authenticity of divine revelation. Furthermore, hermeneutics is also considered contrary to the methodology of Ulumul Qur'an, which has clear procedures and hierarchies of interpretation based on Islamic sources. This study confirms the relevance of historical criticism of Qur'anic hermeneutics as a scholarly effort to restore Qur'anic interpretation to an authentic Islamic epistemological framework. Thus, this study makes a new contribution to strengthening the methodology of interpretation based on the principles of the sacredness of revelation, the integrity of divine meaning, and the scientific discipline of Ulumul Qur'an, originating from the Islamic tradition itself.
