Abstract

This study aims to analyze the forms and roles of social solidarity within the Beuma tradition practiced by the Dayak Kebahan community in Entogong Village, Kayan Hulu District, Sintang Regency. The Beuma tradition, a traditional farming system carried out collectively (berari-ari), reflects the social and cultural values that have been passed down from generation to generation. It not only serves as a means of fulfilling livelihood needs but also strengthens communal bonds and preserves ancestral heritage. This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive method to obtain an in-depth understanding of the Beuma tradition. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation involving traditional leaders and community members who actively participate in Beuma. The data were analyzed through data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing to identify patterns of social interaction and solidarity among participants. The results indicate that the Beuma tradition embodies strong social solidarity based on shared values, cooperation, and mutual assistance among community members. Social cohesion is maintained through collective participation in every stage of Beuma, adherence to customary norms, and shared experiences that create emotional bonds and a sense of togetherness. These elements form both mechanical and organic solidarity within the community. The Beuma tradition thus functions not only as an agricultural activity but also as a social system that sustains cultural identity and reinforces harmony amid modernization

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the form of mechanical solidarity within the Honda Astrea Rider Club (HARC) community in Singkawang through the perspective of Émile Durkheim. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method with four informants selected using purposive sampling, supported by interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings indicate that mechanical solidarity in HARC is manifested through three main aspects: first, collective consciousness in the form of shared values of togetherness, kinship, and mutual assistance, which shape the group’s identity; second, normative consensus reflected in members’ adherence to community rules, maintained by the role of the leader and reinforced by social sanctions; and third, a simple division of labor without role specialization, where all members participate equally based on the principle of mutual cooperation. These findings affirm that mechanical solidarity continues to exist in modern communities built on shared interests and common values, while also contributing to sociological studies on the relevance of Durkheim’s theory in contemporary contexts and opening opportunities for further research on the potential shift from mechanical to organic solidarity within motorcycle communities

Abstract

Children in conflict with the law are entitled to receive education and rehabilitation while serving their sentences in the Juvenile Correctional Institution (LPKA). Education serves not only as an academic right but also as a means of moral and social rehabilitation. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Package C Program for juvenile inmates at LPKA Class II Sungai Raya, Kubu Raya Regency, focusing on the aspects of planning, implementation, and outcomes. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach, with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving LPKA officers, PKBM Khadijah educators, and juvenile participants. The findings indicate that the Package C Program was implemented through participatory planning based on learners’ needs, collaborative execution between LPKA and PKBM Khadijah, and continuous evaluation. The program positively impacted the cognitive, affective, psychomotor, and social development of the inmates. It not only functioned as an educational program but also as a medium for character formation and social reintegration. Conceptually, the implementation reflected non-formal education principles that are flexible, humanistic, and contextual, aligning with the objectives of the correctional system to build independent, responsible, and productive individuals. The study concludes that non-formal education within LPKA effectively supports the rehabilitation and empowerment of children in conflict with the law. Further research is recommended to strengthen experiential learning models and improve facilities and psychosocial support to enhance the sustainability of equality education programs in correctional institutions.

Abstract

Indonesia is a country rich in diverse cultures and traditions, one of which can be found in West Kalimantan, known as the “Land of a Thousand Rivers.” In Landak Regency, the Dayak Kanayatn community continues to preserve their ancestral heritage through the Balala’ Traditional Ceremony, a one-day fasting or quiet period as an expression of respect to God (Jubata), nature, and their ancestors. However, modernization has led to a decline in the younger generation’s interest in maintaining this tradition. This study aims to analyze strategies for preserving the Balala’ Traditional Ceremony using Talcott Parsons’ AGIL theory, which includes the functions of Adaptation, Goal Attainment, Integration, and Latency (Pattern Maintenance). The research employs a descriptive qualitative method through observation, semi structured interviews, and documentation. The results show that the community has adapted the tradition to modern developments while maintaining its spiritual and social purposes, strengthening social integration through collective participation, and preserving cultural values through regeneration and the use of digital media.

Abstract

Purpose--Education functions not only as an instrument for advancing social transformation toward improved quality of life but also as a medium for preserving cultural identity amid global modernization. Despite the growing attention to these themes, no prior bibliometric study has systematically mapped the intellectual structure and global development of research on the connections between education and social transformation. Filling this gap, the article conducts a systematic bibliometric comparison of documents indexed in Scopus between 2000 and 2014, encompassing both journal articles and conference papers.Methodology--The study constructs the knowledge structure based on VOSviewer and explores trends in publications, influential authors, core journals, contributing countries, and frontier research in this field. Five publication phases were identified: the early, slower-growth phase (2000–2005), the period of fluctuating expansion (2006–2014), a surge in publications (2015), continued growth up to 2022, and a recent decline in new research output from 2023 to 2024.Findings--The Journal of Transformative Education appears to be the most prolific outlet, whereas Streck, D.R., and Zembylas, M., are identified as the most central authors. The United States remains the leading contributor, with dominant keywords centered on education, social change, critical pedagogy, and sustainability.Contribution--The originality of this study lies in establishing the first bibliometric mapping of education and social transformation research, which contributes to conceptual clarity of this interdisciplinary field and provides strategic directions for future studies and policy development in transformative education.
