Abstract

The suitability of technology can only be assessed in the context of the overall process of social and economic development. Means of assessment include technology assessment where one examines the broad impact of a technology, and socio-economic opportunity analysis where one starts from social needs and looks for technological solutions. The integration and balance of different levels of technology is as important as the selection of individual technologies. Superior Engineers in the 21st Century do not design for the community, but design with the community and enable design by the community. With the right training and education, engineers can help change communities for the better by equipping community members to meet their own needs and implement their own design responses. Higher Education Institutions are present in society and have a very big role in building the nation, Higher Education also occupies a strategic position in making changes in society through the function of transforming Human Resources (HR), Science and Technology (IPTEK) and social through the implementation of Tridharma activities which includes education, research and community service. With this background, the Raja Ali Haji Maritime University Maritime Engineering Study Program carries out Community Service in the form of Appropriate Technology (TTG) training in the form of ship model making training or known as Hydromodelling at the Hang Tuah Tanjung Uban Naval Vocational School, Bintan, Riau Islands. The training stages include introducing maritime insight and technology, explaining ship parts and then providing training related to ship design and production. The training has received a good response from the school and the students showed enthusiasm in carrying out each stage of the training.

Abstract

Abstract

Indonesia is the world's largest archipelagic country in the world, demand for marine transportation is very important. Marine transport being very strategic because it plays a role in connecting one island to another island and marine transport is a tool for economic activity. Global industrialisation causes traditional shipyard less competitive, causing reduction in the number of traditional ships, which are urgently needed to support economic activity. Proper production management planning at the shipyard is expected to help improve the quality of traditional shipbuilding for competitive. This paper discusses current issues of traditional shipyards in Kepulauan Riau-Indonesia and implementation of IDEF models as tool for solving the problem by taking the following factors into account: concept design, perform preliminary design, contract design, detail design and building of ships.

Abstract

This research described a study of recurrence motion on a volume submersible. Recurrence is the phenomenon in which a system of quasi-periodically returns to its initial conditions after undergoing some degree of evolution, this finding supports the theory of quasi determinism (QD) of sea waves. The research to determine recurrence characteristic of motion in the large volume of semisubmersible using computational methods of ANSYS® AQWA™. The motion was analyzed four types of different incident waves by using JONSWAP Spectrum and are generally regarded as a pure randomness in nature which interacts with the structure generating hydrodynamic motion. Responses of motion were performed for 3 hours, in which it was divided into 9 seed for each incident wave. Hs 7 meters Tp 12.7 sec, Hs and 7 meters Tp 13.5 sec, Hs 8 meters and Tp 12.7 sec, and Hs 8 meters and Tp 12.7 sec , recurrence occurred in the interval (to +635s, to +879) - (to+1774, +to2074), (to +1460, to+1635) - (to +5758, to +5933), (to +693, to+882) - ( to+1735, to+1924) and (to +792, to+992) - (to+1938, to+2138), respectively. Recurrence motion on a large volume semisubmersible support the to support the quasi determinism (QD) theory.

Abstract
